  1. Sassone breaks down the RFA situation: http://blogs.dailyherald.com/node/4289 I'm feeling pretty good at this point -- even if they lose Versteeg or Ladd, wouldn't you call the offseason an absolute success already? I mean, in light of expectations?
  2. Ladd qualified today. I guess that leaves Hendry. I'd be awfully surprised if they don't qualify him as well. You don't want to be down two defensemen. He was shaky at times, but given that it was his first time in the fire this year, I think he did pretty well.
  3. Yeah that's a great trade to just grab another second-round pick. And with the way they reached on the 24th pick, the guy they wanted at 30 will probably be there at 35.
  4. Yeah, but it wouldn't be very hard to work out a sign and trade to make up the difference. For instance, Toronto wants a sign and trade for Bosh, it wouldn't be difficult to offer preferably James Johnson but if not Taj Gibson and a 1st round pick as their compensation for helping us sign Bosh at full max value. Prior to yesterday's trade, we'd have had to beg them or a 3rd team to take Deng or Hinrich, which wouldn't make any sense for Toronto. Also, between now and July 8th, we could probably find a taker for James Johnson. Makes sense. Seems to be what they are setting up for. Would be nice to have the Bulls and Hawks be relevant at the same time again.
  5. Even with all the cap space the Bulls have cleared, to get LBJ and Bosh wouldn't both have to take a little less than they could get elsewhere (not including their current teams)? I thought I read that even without Hinrich the Bulls wouldn't have enough space to offer two max contracts.
  6. You didn't care about the Toews/Kane drafts? Not so much for Toews, but yeah I watched when they had the 1st pick. I'm just not one of those people who knows who all the prospects are and really cares what goes on after the first few picks.
  7. I typically don't care much for the NHL Draft, even when the Hawks have (had) high picks. But I'll be watching tonight because I expect more movement including these picks. I don't know enough about the draft after Hall and Seguin to know if it makes sense, but it would be great if the Hawks could package some of these picks to move up to the top part of the first round. I'd like to know if anyone does rankings of farm systems like BA does for Baseball (or is it BP?), but I think the Hawks are in pretty good shape. And I'm still looking forward to seeing Leddy progress. I think the thought is he's probably a year away still, but he could ease in as a 5th or 6th defenseman.
  8. Also, not really sad to see Fraser go at all. He's not a "playoff player" and he got his assed kicked too many times in fights over the last few years. He didn't do anything that Eager and Burish didn't do better. That said, I hope it's true that Bowman will try to find a tough guy on the FA market.
  9. Right. Even in the playoffs, when he was supposedly their savior, he was MIA more than half the time. I give him credit for showing up when it matters, but who knows what his effort level will be like now that he's won his cup. I think he'll perform this year because he wants to get a big contract after the season, which he probably would. But I would HATE to be the team that signs that guy for a long-term, big-dollar contract. I don't mean to be too hard on the guy -- but these are things I've been saying for the last two years. And all that said, with it working out like this he'll be appreciated and revered by Hawks fans forever.
  10. By the way, awards show is tonight on Versus. Duncan Teeth for Norris!
  11. Love him or hate him, Rosenbloom knows his hockey. He's dead on here: http://blogs.chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/rosenblog/2010/06/dealing-byfuglien-the-best-of-the-immediate-options.html#tp And it's too bad the Thrashers don't come to Chicago this year so the Hawks could honor the guys and perhaps have a ring ceremony. Hawks go there on November 6.
  12. I totally agree. Some of the posters on HFBoards are noting that Buff could be the "face of the franchise" given that he's a black player in Atlanta. Aliu too, to a smaller extent. Setting aside the oversimplicity of the racial component to this, Buff isn't cut out to be the face of any franchise. That's not his thing. He will not carry the load for anyone, and especially not for a bad team. Without motivation, he will disappear on the ice.
  13. Wow. WTG Stan. That's an amazing haul to get back for three guys they had to unload. And everything I read was that Aliu seriously underachieved this year and the organization had their doubts about him. And Beach does what he does better anyway. I don't think the Hawks are done stocking up on draft picks yet.
  14. Yeah there were yells from all around my office, so I think I'm safe.
  15. MIRACLE!
  16. Another ridiculous call.
  17. WTF man!
  18. That was not close.
  19. This has to happen.
  20. I'm only watching on my phone, but that save looked ridiculous.
  21. That didn't just happen.
  22. Yeah that's excellent.
  23. That's a bummer. Even though the Blues aren't an O6, when those teams come to town I always want to go. It doesn't really make any sense, especially with a crap team like Toronto. It's just something about those teams.
  24. Campbell may be a Capital by then. Haha I was thinking the same thing when I read that.
  25. The one thing that jumps out at me is there is no hellish road trip in February. Six games, but that's not bad. Of course there is the west coast trip when the circus comes through in late November.
