  1. I love Twitter on days like this. Never thought I'd say that under any circumstance though. McKenzie says Morris at 4 yrs/11m total is close to done in PHX. Dreger says it's done. I don't have a Twitter account but I was thinking today is one of those times I wish I did. But I still won't.
  2. I love TSN on days like this, btw.
  3. That seems a little high for him.
  4. Good. It seems going last would also give them a chance to perhaps make another move first to dangle in front of LBJ. If such a move is possible.
  5. pretty sure Niitty is going to get a majority of the starts. I always liked him, but probably just because Antero Niittymaki is a great name. If that's true, I think we just got the #1 seed in the west. EDIT: But yeah, I see it's 2 years, 4M. That's starter money these days. Am I underestimating him? Wouldn't Mason or Ellis be a better option for similar money?
  6. Yeah I thought there would be some indication of movement with Kovi.
  7. Colby Armstrong to Toronto Auld to MTL, I guess to back up Price Nittymaki to SJ, I guess without Nabby they'll actually need a backup
  8. 5 years/20 mil for Michalak.
  9. Michalak to Pitt per TSN.
  10. That's interesting about MSL. It sounded like he really wanted out this spring, but I guess Stevie was able to change his mind.
  11. The NHL isn't the NFL though, a team with cap space isn't necessarily going to spend it. Oh I know, which is what has a lot of folks gnashing their teeth.
  12. On the flip side of the Hawks, teams with plenty of cash to blow: http://www.thehockeynews.com/articles/34311-THNcom-Top-10-Teams-with-salary-cap-space.html The Blues really need to make a splash, though I doubt they will. Fans here are holding out hope for Kovalchuk. The fans are starting to get a little antsy with the rebuilding program, especially since now they've seen the Hawks rise from the ashes and get it done.
  13. http://www.thehockeynews.com/articles/34326-THNcom-Blog-Maple-Leafs-add-Kris-Versteeg-in-another-Blackhawks-salary-cap-trade.html
  14. Yeah, some neutral observations I've seen suggest that he could be the steal here. I think it may have been true that none were needed. But that doesn't mean no more could be made. Why not free up more room if you can also get back some quality. The Buff trade was all about cap space and draft picks. This is about acquiring specific players who are cheaper versions of what they had. Right. One comment I saw projected Stalberg as a 3rd line forward. Wasn't that what Versteeg was for most of the year? The same article, and I forget where it was, suggested that he might wing a line with Persson, that other Swede Bowman just signed. The author commented, and I hadn't thought about it until now, how much Bowman loves the Swedes.
  15. I thought he was very careless in the playoffs. He doesn't offer enough offensive explosion to play like that, and I have no problem with him being dealt, especially at that cap number. He was at times. I remember how pissed off I was at him at the end of that Vancouver game when he held the puck for what seemed like an hour. Of course, I forgave him a few seconds later, but still. The flipside of that is that he is still young and I think the bad habits can be coached out of him. I'm sorry to see him go -- much more so than I was with Buff -- but he won't be the difference between them being a top-5 contender or not.
  16. Yeah, some neutral observations I've seen suggest that he could be the steal here.
  17. That's the right move for him. Take the cash.
  18. Then let's hope that number is wrong. Bowman said last night, pretty clearly, that the Hawks were going to keep Ladd. http://espn.go.com/blog/ChicagoBlackhawks/post/_/id/4663790/bowman-makes-the-best-of-a-bad-situation It's one thing for him to say "everything is fine" when he is trying to get his asking price for guys. But I think it's another thing to publicly say you're going to keep a guy and then let him go. Sure, he would have an out if another team gives Ladd a crazy offer sheet, but still. He knows he can't jerk guys around like that.
  19. Versteeg is a good player, but he is more flash than substance most of the time. I said it last week and it's still true -- if this is it, Bowman is a wizard. And I guess this is only an assumption since he's from Ontario, but I'll bet Versteeg is pretty happy too. Win a Cup, then get to go home.
  20. Image.
  21. Holy [expletive]. That's a lot of scratch.
  22. http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=326077 No surprise here, Kostitsyn being moved and all. Actually glad to see that turd is coming to our division. But he can bring some production if his head is screwed on straight. And given that the Preds sort of needed to move Ellis, not a bad deal for them. And Montreal has hedged a little against the possibility that they made a monumental mistake in trading Halak and trusting Carey Price with the future of the franchise.
  23. And we still have at least two days more of this and probably more.
  24. The pbp and color guys for this tournament are light-years better than almost any baseball pbp and color guys British announcers in general are so much better than American announcers. If you listen to the comments, to the painterly turns of a phrase, to every subtle word they use that describe the essence and impact of the moment, you become more and more amazed each day by the British announcers. I totally agree with this. With a lot of it being foreign to me, I hear them say something, then it plays back in my head and I smile a little because they are clever without being smarmy.
  25. Nabokov got a lot of wins in SJ because he plays almost every game, which I still think is crazy and perhaps has something to do with his playoff performances. And he is definitely an above-average goalie in this league. But look around -- who is really the elite? Ryan Miller and...Ryan Miller? Below him I would put Nabokov in that next group with Luongo.
