  1. I'm not the first and definitely won't be the last to ask this, but should Tiger be on the Ryder Cup team as a captain's pick? And how much weight does his performance in Kohler this week impact that decision? I think you take him no matter what, but he may decline if he thinks he'll be a detriment.
  2. ^Oh yeah I remember seeing that quote about people seeing him. I don't know, I have to imagine other players Zito has are taking a look at their options.
  3. but hey, niemi is not comfortable playing for a contender, remember? at least, that's how zito was selling him to the hawks. apparently, he thinks there's more job security playing in a smaller market where he can start for the next 10 years without anyone noticing him. THAT'S NOT HOW IT WORKS YOU ASS [expletive] off, man I don't remember reading Zito saying anything like that. If Niemi has trouble dealing with pressure, he has a funny way of showing it. Niemi is a weird duck. And it could just be because of the language barrier, but we have no idea what makes that guy tick. So it could be all Zito. Either way, I'm with Soul, I wish the guy success against everyone but the Hawks.
  4. Seriously. I have no doubt Zito is sleeping on Doug Wilson's doorstep right now, begging him to give Niemi 2/$5M just to save some face.
  5. I know the site is suspect (at best) for rumors, but this is a good rundown of the goaltending situation around the league and who might be willing to pick up Niemi. And it reinforces how badly he played his cards. http://www.hockeybuzz.com/blog/Steven-Hindle/The-Niemi-Dilemma-Examining-Who-Has-Room-For-the-Stanley-Cup-Winner/98/29614
  6. he was part of the gagne trade/salary dump Ah okay. I didn't keep up with how he did last year, but he was solid enough for the Hawks two years ago.
  7. he sure as hell is better than michael leighton and brian boucher. Shockingly, Philly's GM came out already and said they were not interested in Niemi. He better hope he can get a deal with San Jose or he's going to be in hockey hell. the philly inquirer said that to fit him under the cap, we'd have to send boucher and matt walker (d-man) to the minors. okay, so what's the problem??? Matt Walker that used to be on the Hawks? Did they just sign him? I thought he was with Tampa.
  8. He could go play close to home in the KHL.
  9. Good one.
  10. Somebody's lying then. His teammates don't have any reason to. The only person who does is him. And there are two potential reasons: more money or more attention. What an [expletive].
  11. I'm still trying to figure out how these things work in hockey. Does this mean the Hawks have just retained these guys and can play them in Rockford, or does this mean they are all Blackhawks and will count against the cap? I think these are two-way contracts, so they will likely be assigned to Rockford and would only count against the cap if/when they are called up.
  12. ESPN.com totally back to "it's up in the air." Unbelievable.
  13. As much as I'm rooting against this happening, after a few years, when he goes into Canton and memories get a little fuzzy, all will be forgiven. He'll go back to being loved in GB too.
  14. All of this just continues to justify my hatred of that dude since I was in middle school.
  15. I think he was just trying to be contrarian and found a stat to back up his point. I wasn't agreeing with him, just hadn't seen much out there analyzing the situation. Most of the hockey media is on holiday about now. Will be very interested to see where he goes. There was an Insider article listing five destinations, but I let that subscription lapse. Anyone know where it said Niemi might go?
  16. THN's thoughts on the loss of Niemi: http://www.thehockeynews.com/articles/34676-The-Boylen-Point-Will-the-Blackhawks-miss-Antti-Niemi.html
  17. I think it's very possible our 3rd defensive pairing could be even better this year. Hendry is another year older and gained some valuable experience. And then I like some combo of Scott/Lalonde/McGee/Jay McKee if they sign him to work with him. I'm very excited about this team There's no reason to think Hendry won't be improved, and even he's not, that's fine. What we got from him last year was just fine and will be again. It sounds like Scott will get every chance to get on the ice on a nightly basis, if for no other reason than they will need him out there. Without the other enforcers, he's one of those guys they will need for that role. Jay McKee certainly won't get that job done. And let's not write Kyle Beach's name on the Keith Magnuson Trophy just yet. *Yes, I just made that up. There is no Keith Magnuson Trophy. Though there probably should be.
  18. If there was a cap-friendly offer out there for, say, 3 years and $7-8M and he turned it down, he's got to be kicking himself right now. This may be his best chance to cash out.
  19. ^I really don't get the interest in what anonymous dopes who obviously know nothing about hockey have to say about the situation. Yes, there are tons of bandwagoners at this point. They fell in love with a team for a few weeks or maybe even months. That's fine. But I don't get the obsession with them.
  20. It's too bad, but it had to be done. The key, as Bowman stressed yesterday, is the defense. If they stay healthy, this team can win (obviously) with a goalie like Niemi or Turco. Go get another cheap defenseman and then let's get on with training camp.
  21. If they can fit him in, pay him the award. It's just one year, and I'd like to see him for another year anyway before deciding if he's worth more long term. Turco would be a temporary fit too, and perhaps a bit cheaper, but obviously I'd rather than Neimi.
  22. I'm looking forward to the year, but I'm always the idiot optimistic before the season starts. The realistic in me says 10-6 would be fantastic.
  23. Good move. Reasoner would have helped replace Madden, but obviously he's not worth nearly as much as Niemi.
  24. That's awesome. And just to throw in my two cents, I don't think the league throwing out Kovi's deal is arbitrary at all. Sure, 12 years is a little silly, but 17? Come on.
