  1. I just think Pie is overhyped. He probably will become a great fielder dont get me wrong. I just think that he isnt even to the level you guys say he is so far with his reads. The thing is though before he was rated as a 5-tool player. I'm sorry, but I dont think I could ever see him ever getting any pop. He could become a decent slap hitter, like a Luis Castillo type hitter. That would be nice if he tried to do that...Ha I know ill probably get ripped for this, but thats just my take on it! Sorry! I just think you're wrong on many, many accounts. First of all, Pie is only 23 years old. Part of the reason he's been hyped so much is that he's been in the system since he was 17. Pie put 314/375/558 in the low minors at the age most kids are still playing for their high school teams. His minor league numbers indicate that he will be able to hit. I don't know what you are watching, but his defense already makes him one of the top CF in baseball. He has incredible quickness and a good arm. His reads are not always the best, but with his athletic skills, he can make up most of the difference. While he may not develop into a homerun hitter, I think he will demonstrate acceptable power from CF. He already has more power than Kenny Lofton. Pie will take some time to develop. He's going to have to take his lumps at some point this year, but when it's all said and done, Pie will bring more value offensively and defensively than the grizzled Lofton would bring. If we could bring Kenny Lofton circa 1997 here, then I'd buy your point. But, I think Pie is the better player not only for this year, but because of what he'll bring in the future as well. I'm not saying that he wont, but his swing just looks horrible. I think lofton even against lefties would be more reliable if we picked him up. I'm not saying he will stay healthy, but healthy he is a more consistent and better chance for us getting someone on base thats all
  2. First, you can't just "try" to be a slap hittter. You either have that skill or you don't. If he was a slap-hitter, he would have been one all the way through the minors. Second, if you are thinking of the double I think you are, you are incredibly underestimating how hard it was hit. Nobody in all of baseball cuts that ball off for a single. It wasn't just once... it's happened multiple times in 3 games

  4. I would pay the kings ransom for someone like Harden. He is very good and young still!
  5. 1) he might have 2) there is no reason to 3) Pie is a better defender 4) much higher upside 5) both struggle with lefty pitching Ok I know that I don't have any justification about deciding if Pie is a good fielder, but I've played baseball almost my entire life especially CF. I might just be me, but Pie gets some of the worse reads on balls. I feel like he is an amazing athlete, but sometimes that doesn't completely make him a good CF. He's got a cannon and great speed, but already in just two games this year he has made bad reads which caused a single to turn into a double if fielded correctly. I'm not saying Lofton would be much better, but he at least knows the outfield which may just be Pie's problem and he needs to get used to it, but Lofton is better offensively....I don't know I might be in the outs, but in just two games im getting sick of seeing Pie horribly strike out at pitch that barely makes it to the dirt in front of the plate on a breaking ball. So Lofton might not be an amazing upgrade, but I wouldnt mind the signing cause he could help and probably at least give Pie someone to learn some basics in the outfield like cutting off base hits before they get to wall and cause extra base hits.
  6. ha clicked on the wrong quote button and didn't notice sorry bout that!
  7. Get the job done Jim! This would be a solid pick up....just get it done!
  8. thank god this whole thing is finally just ending!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  9. I agree with one of the earlier posts. I much rather have Dannovan or Johnson over Payton or Byrd.
  10. It wouldn't be too far off to make that claim, but they do have a lot of question marks going into the 2008 season. The health of Sheffield, Maggs, Pudge and Guillen being the biggest. But, when your #9 hitter is a platoon with career numbers that look like this: Thames: .263 .333 .512 .845 Jones: .294 .342 .483 .825 There should be reason to celebrate what will undoubtedly be an explosive offense. Yeah but thats there 9 hitter...Granderson all-star, Palanco all-star, Mags all-star, Renteria all-star, Miguel Cabrera all-star, Guillen and Pudge all-stars in recent years, Sheffield when healthy he can still hit the carp out of the ball. I think you missed what I was saying. An .825-.845 OPS from a #9 hitter is pretty good. Oh ok ha sorry

  12. werent we semi after him for a while?
  13. To be fair, he's added significant velocity since then. They caught criticism for their negative press of Petit, when he was putting up stellar numbers. Yeah we are giving up something pretty good in Gallagher, but You have to give up something decent to get something decent in most trade negotiations
  14. It's about time! yeah but rotoworld says this Eric Bedard's physical was expected to carry over to today, meaning the trade might not be announced until Saturday. Even though he's a near sure-thing to pass his physical, the examination is probably thorough considering Bedard is coming off an injury. The deal should be official in the next 36 hours. http://rotoworld.com/Content/playernews.aspx?sport=MLB
  15. Is there any realistic chance Demp/Marquis + prospect would net us crisp? If there is I would take that in a second!!!!!
  16. Is this a new update from today? yes cause earlier I read that he hadnt left his house in his home town
  17. Is he just speculating or have there actually been talks yet?
  18. I like this the only thing that scares me is that means Dumpster will be the 5th starter!!!! so I dont know sherrill would make our pen even better but is worth making dempster a starter?
  19. Wait. You sayin' yet another Cubs top pick has been wasted? I wouldn't call it "wasted" if we end up trading him for a tangible asset like Roberts. :D Good point 8-) haha true true
  20. I mean Colvin Ive herd alot of negatives. Yea Gallagher hurts, but you have to give up something to get something and Cedeno id like to keep but probably wont be able to.
  21. The Baltimore Sun writer was on the radio and said that if the Cubs don't up their offer for Roberts then he doesn't think he'll be traded. I don't see us putting both Gallagher and Marshall in the deal. Maybe Gallagher and Marquis. I see something like Gallagher, Colvin, Cedeno for Roberts and Payton. The Hendry should stand firm with his offer. The Cubs DON'T NEED Brian Roberts. They have a pretty solid 2B in Mark DeRosa. So Hendry shouldn't be held over the barrel for Brian Roberts. A speedy 2B is not a need for the Cubs, but a luxury, and if Baltimore is trying to screwed the Cubs in this deal, then the Cubs should back away. Brian Roberts isn't worth the trouble, to be honest. Yeah but the way you guys are making it sounds that doesnt seem like they are screwing with us with the deal?

I don't see us putting both Gallagher and Marshall in the deal. Maybe Gallagher and Marquis. I see something like Gallagher, Colvin, Cedeno for Roberts and Payton. I would take that! I know some of you guys would be apposed to it since the need at SS, but payton could probably platoon with Pie right? I could platoon with Pie, but just like Jay Payton, I would suck at it. Pretty sure as bad as Payton is hes much better than you haha jk no offense. How much worse is he than Bryd?

  24. Two Questions: so what are the odds you guys think Roberts is still coming here? Has anyone heard anything about another pitcher were after if were going to put Marshall and Gallagher in the deal?
