  1. All I know was the fact that Owings future would not be on the mound. I was never impressed with Owings as a pitcher, even at GT and Tulane. I felt Owings future was likely at 1st base or LF. You really think that Micha could be a position player? He did a pretty good job of it in college. True, but he's been pitching for 2 years. Yeah obviously he still can hit, but athletically I don't think hes in the shape to play a corner outfield position. Yeah, but you think it would take very long for Owings to get in shape to play LF? I don't think so. Im not saying it would take really long, but I dont think you could just throw him in an play LF after pitching for a long time. It would probably be a year or two until he was truly ready. Thats what I think could be wrong

  4. Would he really be an improvement over Buchholz? and secondly are they already giving up on Buchholz? isn't the guy like 23? Turns 24 on Thursday. Ok ha are they giving up on a 23 year old? :-k

  6. Whogivesacrapaboutstrkeouts? When you strikeout 25 - 30% of your plate appearances (30 - 35% of your abs) it matters. It's not the be all and end all and he definately offsets it at least partitially in other areas but it is still a negative. If you are going to tout the positives it dimishes the argument if you simply ignore the negatives. It's simply not a negative if his productivity is still there. But you have to break down some of his productivity regarding the K's though. I wonder how many times he K'd w/a runner on third w/less than 2 outs? He's a heck of a hitter but I'm sure he's quite maddning to have on your team at times as well. That's is meaningless. What about a guy who doesn't K, but grounds into a DP with runners on with less than 2 outs? As said previously, and out is an out. Once again, an out is not an out in real life. It depends on the situation. A DP is 2 outs. Just answer this, would you rather have Dunn hit a fly ball to the OF or K w/ a runner at third w/less than 2 outs? I want Adam Dunn in my lineup. I would love Dunn in my lineup
  7. Regardless if he strikes out a lot or his batting average is low, his OBP is .379. So yes he does strike out a lot, but like just said he's on base 40% of the time
  8. Agreed.....but they are the one team I would be worried about in the playoffs and now just added one of the most feared bats in the majors
  9. I look at this both two ways: 1. We destroy Cincinnati in the last 6 games with no pop in there lineup whatsoever. 2. Lets pray that the D-backs don't make the playoffs that big bat in there line-up is scary 3. Lets go dodgers lets go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  10. I can't see a more than average minor league player for Randy Winn
  11. To be honest, I just checked McCovey Chronicles, the SF news paper, did a Google search for 'randy winn cubs' went to BCB, and looked at the ESPN and MLB.com Giants message boards and didn't see anything on it. Yeah I cant find anything at all about the Cubs
  12. He would be a downgrade defensively, but you would have to think late in games they switch him out with Fukudome no matter what. I don't know I just really wouldnt mind a guy off the bench who could play RF.
  13. if the rumor is true, this is probably why the giants would do it. Take an expiring contract in ward and dump winn's contract isn't Ward like 3mil though...I really wouldnt mind Winn as a platoon in right/ fourth outfielder
  14. Were getting a reasonably good hitter and better outfielder, rather than a slow and not even good hitter anymore. It's a no brainer
  15. I would take that trade in a second. If he's ok with platooning with Fukudome in a second
  16. The guys who have great numbers against lefties, and are likely to clear waivers are from Baltimore -- Payton and Millar. And possibly Garciaparra from the Dodgers. Trade the guy they got from Philly for Eyre for either of them on August 30, and I like the deal. Dempster and Millar on the same team? I guarantee you, the Cubs will not be uptight/stiff team whatsoever. Anybody remember that MOCK feud Millar and Dempster had earlier this yr? I wouldn't opposed a Kevin Millar deal. And I am sure neither Lee or Dempster would either. haha
  17. In a second...that trade would be unfair
  18. I didn't think we'd get an answer to this question, but here it is: Valdosta, Georgia http://chicago.cubs.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20080807&content_id=3270063&vkey=news_chc&fext=.jsp&c_id=chc A couple good quotes from Eyre in there. Good luck to him, except when we possibly meet his team in the playoffs. 8 miles to the gallon? Geez, talk about a waste of money. When they interviewed him on the score he said he only had to stop once though on the way to Florida haha. Man I'm gonna miss that guy he always gave good interviews :(

Trade the guy they got from Philly for Eyre for either of them on August 30, and I like the deal. I really wouldn't mind one of those guys just solely for the playoff and if he wouldn't have to give up much.
  20. Which means the Cubs need a RH hitter to play DH against lefties. They can add that guy on Aug 31, but they need it. It will probably the post-season roster of a pitcher who doesn't make it (either Howry or Marquis). They rested Fukudome against a lefty on Saturday, which meant Cedeno at 2B. Cedeno can't be DH, neither can Blanco. Who do you think there after? Any names that looks most likely?
  21. I'm happy to hear that he got picked up by someone. Bad news if were playing the Phillies in the NLCS late in the game baseloaded 2 outs and they bring him in just to get Fuku out and he misses horribly ha.
