  1. teaching kids to be winners???? step one, get traded to another organization. "Teaching kids to be winners" or "He's a winner". Is one of those stupid copout phrases along with "He knows how to play the game", and "He plays the game right". LOL it makes me chuckle everytime I hear it.
  2. Second that Sure that would be nice, but Rothschild has been doing a pretty good job. Hate to lose someone proven good when Maddux hasn't proven he'd be a great pitching coach yet. I like the idea of having Mad dog there to mentor the young guys but somehow keep Rothschild around.
  3. Carlos Zambrano hasn't nearly performed near his salary. Dempster is way overpaid and so is Fukudome. And pretty much any "veteran" bench player or reliever is also. But most of these contracts are going to be done in the next 1-2 years so I don't see it hurting the Cubs "longtearm". Silva, Demp, Lilly, Fuku, Lee, Ram and more will all be off the books soon. That's alot of money free to (hopefully) spend wisely.
  4. I can only comment on my recent memory. But it seemed in 2008, every time Sheets tried to come back, his elbow hurt, or his shoulder hurt, or he had a problem with his finger. Seems like something was always happening and seems extremely injury prone if you ask me. Sure I'd love a healthy Sheets, but I don't think we'll get that. When was the last time he was fully healthy or atleast mostly healthy? Didn't Sheets pitch 200 innings in 2008? Maybe you are right. I don't have a great memory. Getting 200 quality innings out of Sheets would be wonderful.

  6. Your next former cubbie coaching staff? Ryne Sandberg - Manager Greg Maddux - GM LOL.
  7. Yeah, I don't expect them to make a move either. In that case, I'd still rather go after a good 2B, and if Castro comes up, then you have him and a good 2B. Which is a better alternative to Castro and Theriot. At that time trade away Theriot.
  8. new to me, so thanks.
  9. This part bothers me, especially considering we already have a below average left fielder. It could be a bumpy 2010. The Cubs will finish below .500. It won't be bumpy; it'll just be down. If you're serious I'd take that bet.
  10. No, he should have been fired for playing milton bradley when he should have been signing someone good.
  11. http://chicago.cubs.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20100101&content_id=7866206&vkey=news_chc&fext=.jsp&c_id=chc This would be my prefered lineup if no additional position player changes were made. We all know how that can change though. I much prefer Baker over Fontenot but his leftyness might give him a more extended shot than he deserves. Fukudome Theriot Lee Ramirez Byrd Soriano Soto Baker P
  12. Never said I want that to happen. Just don't want to see them hand out huge contracts to the wrong guys.
  13. God. If only he wasn't so stupid and thought that last offseason they wouldn't have signed bradley and encouraged him to bat lefty when he was a better RIGHT HANDED hitter in the first place. :banghead: : :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:    banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:
  14. :club:
  15. When Cameron was signed I did want Byrd, so I'm happy. I think he's deffinately a full time player. As was pointed out he hits lefties and righties about the same. Who knows maybe he'll have a good year and could be our '10 "derosa" lol.. So that gives you a stable outfield now. I would like either a full time SS or 2B signed then I'll be pretty content with our position players next year.
  16. Not bad, ok with this. But Godammit Jim, backloaded is his middle name.
  17. Is anyone starting to feel that "letting the weeds grow out" is somewhat Ritters philosophy also? I mean so far Hendry hasn't signed anyone to any long term hampering contracts. Infact he's only spend what $7 mil over 2 years on Grabow so far? Moan about the contract, it's insignificant as far has hampering the Cubs going foward. Maybe Ritters has told hendry about not trading any of our top prospects and hasn't given him much leeway with money for FA. If that's the case, I really like Ritters. Because if the rest of Ritters tenure will be simular to this offseason so far, I would like that.
  18. Me either jersey. Listening to the player and manager interviews on the radio has and will always be enough for me. Some of them are quite funny and entertaining. Always love when Lee Smith is on he's really funny. BTW no never been to one.
  19. This NYE has been much less dissapointing. Yes it sucked? Yes. But actually when you consider we were going to get crap for Bradley anyway (that dissapointment should lean more toward last year anyway). Consider how Silva has been announced to get the mop up role, which is the most perfect role for him, and the fact that we haven't handed out any long backloaded contracts (Grabow was only 2 years ok). This NYE hasn't been that bad at all. The less, the better as was said. Right now I prefer to keep our prospects and let the weeds grow out as was said before. And so far, that's what is happening.
  20. the yankees haven't been producing a regular influx of all-star caliber talent since the late 90s. No, they just buy 2 or 3 new ones every year.
  21. Alot of people are being nitpicky about an article. I'm just curious, is Tim the the curator of a website or did he all of a sudden become a journalist that we must all criticize for little inconsistancies in his articles? I think his focus was to get us talking about the future of the cubs, not to be so picky about silly little things.
  22. Dlee and Ramirez aren't likely to be around when the next "core" hits it's prime. Soriano might due to his contract but I'm just saying I as a fan would be more excited if we were in the "firesale mode" like the Marlins were and netted some really good young players. Not that I won't be excited anyway but I just mean I wouldn't mind a few rough seasons if I knew things were gonna get better, alot better.
  23. Yeah I don't want him playing in the majors yet either. I've just been watching some youtube videos fans filmed of some of our top prospects. Guess that Bball bug is starting to bite me again.
  24. I'm just watching some youtube video of him fielding and batting practice during the rising stars game. Can't wait to see him play some ball.
