  1. Check out what ATL paid last year for Hudson and you should get a good idea... So...Hill, Patterson and Wuertz in place of Meyer, Charles Thomas and Cruz? Where do I sign? Yours and Hendry's would be the only signature on THAT paper. I'll sign. Ehem, since we have to be EXACT. Yours and Hendry's would be the only signature on that paper if you were allowed in the secret room with hendry and the A's GM and nobody else was in that room except you 3. And the room where you 3 were in was the actual place the "paper" in question is located, the "paper" that would actually be signed.

  3. Ehem. "If Bruce wants to share something I'm sure he will in his own thread."
  4. I think it's Clemens, no doubt. . Clemens Zambrono Prior Wood (or williams) Maddux. . WOW!!
  5. Until the Chubbs got Neifi!, I thought him and Deivi Cruz were the same person. I thought the same thing about the Cards. . . Hey, can we use PROPER names here please? Thank you!!
  6. I love the official team site and message board! It always seems to have the latest news and signings from around the league, and is rarely wrong! --Edward K., Indianapolis, Ind. I love it if I'm looking for a good laugh. or you could just come here for a good nerve grating (all the downers and negativity about our team next year). Atleast the Cubs.com MB has, SOME positivity.
  7. Matt - Kid Cub Pierre - Speedy P
  8. Well Bruce's report isn't the only thing talking abou it. It's on the Score, ESPN 1000, and XM Radio MLB Home Plate. Everyone is talking about it. Someone on another thread said someone who is close to Tejada said Tejada would be happy to come to the Cubs if a trade happened. Go to the Cardinals board.....4 threads about Tejada going to the Cardinals. I suspect that every message board for every team is currently chewing on why Tejada will end up with them in the near future. Dont get your hopes up. Don't get your hopes down. And another thing, I'm just responding to Lemehearya, who asked who else is reporting it.

  10. This is a whole lot more than a slight upgrade...... 04/04 - 10/02 AB R H 2B 3B HR TB RBI BB SO BA OBP SLG OPS CUBS '05 leadoff 690 83 168 33 2 13 244 55 44 96 0.243 0.297 0.354 0.650 Pierre career avg 654 100 199 22 9 2 245 47 43 40 0.305 0.355 0.375 0.730 This is enough of an upgrade to take the team's OBP (0.324) from 11th place in the National League up to league average (0.330). If the CUBS are able to pull off a deal for a stud right fielder and get the kind of production out of Cedeno & Murton that we all are hoping for, this will be a very strong offensive unit. Yeah but you're using his career numbers. He wasn't really close to that last year. He was .276/.326/.354. It's not enough of a jump to call it "huge"---at least in my book. I suppose it depends on your definition of "slight" versus "huge." I contend that, if acquiring Albert Pujols is a HUGE improvement, then Pierre is definitely SLIGHT. And you're assuming he's going to hit .274/.326 again next year. Last year was a down year for him and based on the amount of times he hit .300/.360 I think it's safe to assume he will post much better #'s than last years. He's got a good head on his shoulders, and good carreer #'s. He can bounce back. Plus he's got a change of scenery. Maybe playing in Chicago infront of those 40K fans will ignite him. He does seem pretty excited to be playing in Chicago. So that will help his motivation to perform. EDIT::::::: And I'd like to add, that Pierre is at the age -28- that most argue players enter their prime. There is no reason to think he can't get better. He could possibly post a .370 - .380 OBP. At any rate, I think he'll ATLEAST post a .340 OBP. And as was said, it's relative. He'd be replacing a combined .298 OBP from the lead-off slot. So far Hendry has ATLEAST dusty proofed our #1 batter and made a huge improvement at that slot.
  11. Not a BAD idea at all. But we need someone of Maddux calibur atleast to replace wood. None of those: Hill, Welly, Williams, or Rusch. Are going to save us when Wood goes down. They hurt us last year and they will hurt us again. We weren't prepared for Wood going down last year how can we say we are prepared this year if we don't add another good SP?
  12. Floyd and Bradley are a gamble in that do we still have enough to get another SP? Whereas Murton could tie them or even outproduce them and we are only paying him 350K. Bradley is a further gamble on his additude negatively effecting the club. Not only that, but he is a gamble to even beable to play a full season. Floyd would be the only safe bet but can he play RF and how much does he make? What we NEED to do is find someone floyd-like who is a LH RIGHT feilder so we don't block Murtons production.
  13. Murton is going to be a strength of our team, not a weekness. No use wasting more trading chips and payroll on a lesser OF than Murton. Use that money where it is really needed, a SP. And I really wouldn't say it that way. We really do not have ALL that many weeknesses in our Line-up. All we are really lacking is a power OF for RF and a good SP. Floyd and Bradley are both superior to Murton. But will they perform better than Murton next year? I don't think so. We need a 3rd starter much more than we need to gamble on someone else doing better than Murton. One of them in RF is fine, but let the kid play.

  15. He will hit .300/.350/.450. I GUARANTEE it. Murton does not need to be platooned with ANYBODY. In at around 160 AB last year he had an OBP above .380 and 7 HR. I think it is very likely he can hit atleast .350 OBP and produce 20 HR or more. I'll bank my name on this. Well, if you gurantee it I guess we have nothing to worry about. We don't, trust me. 8)

  17. Nobody ever said it was going to all three, all at the same time. :P So it's good to see Hendry isn't against Keeping Pierre if Pie does not impress. It's just nice to hear him say that after all those months of hearing "Pie is JH baby"
  18. So it sounds like I was wrong. Hendry will try to sign Pierre longterm and play Pie (if his development continues) in RF in 2007 (if Pierre extends). Read the rest of the transcript here (you need Acrobat Reader) WOHOOOOOOOOOOO! Awesome!! I'm glad JH feels that way. If we had a huge bopper in RF, it wouldn't be bad at all to have 2 speedsters in the OF. After all you have alot of power in 1B, 3B, and C. Well atleast that leaves us options knowing Hendry thinks this way. You at some point see Murton, Pierre, and Pie play and you just see who is the best player overall. If Murton turns into a 30 HR .300 .360 guy then you stick with him, simularly if Pierre improves his SB%, and OBP you could stick with him over Pie. Very good JH, very good.
  19. Can someone sum up some of the points jim made? This is the first time I'm actually here to watch a press C live and I everything was jarbled, no video. It was ok before, but then I reloaded it thinking maybe I missed it or something. When it comes back on it sounded like. . Ba . . ba ba be, bleh bee bo, we like Cedeno. . . be be boo .. blah be . . We actually went after both. . . be be bo.
  20. link to MLB radio please? The video feed is now screwed up for me. glitchy and stuttering.
  21. This is more information than I provided in the other thread. Thanks Giles Brothers! No prob. And I don't mind this thread deleted in about a half hour. I just want to notify people about this. Some people might not know you can watch it live. Well 5 more min.!!
  22. I just wanted to give the heads up that it appears mlb.com will host the live press conference for Juan Pierre. Just goto the Cubs.com main page and there is a link you click in the headline and it brings you to MLBs streaming winter meetings live broadcast. (I didn't even know about this until I went looking for Pierre's conference) http://chicago.cubs.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/index.jsp?c_id=chc I know there are Pierre threads already, and we can delete this after 4:00 p.m., but could we atleast leave this here so people can see this?
  23. Thanks, I'll keep an ear on the radio then (it's not like I'm not glued to it already). Is this going to be the whole introduction the new player, putting a Cubs jersey over his suit thing. Will Juan Pierre be there? Or is this just Hendry announcing it by himself?
  24. THANKS FOR THAT! I'm looking foward to watching that. I missed the Eyre and Howry PCs. What channel would that be on Direct TV in Chicagoland? I know what channel Comcastsportsnet is, but I'm a little scetchy with the different WGN channels.
