  1. Does Maddux have a no trade clause? I know I get criticised for thinking with my Heart. But I wouldn't want to do that to Maddux. I mean atleast we know he will probably pitch all of his games and post a ~3.50 ERA. Now Wood, I would do that to. Too bad he has a no trade and his value is low now.
  2. I don't know how to do the multiple quotes but I want to respond to each so please look in the quote. If you want to teach me how in the meantime, great. You keep saying this so I'll step up. NO, he is NOT worth 13 mil a year. But we aren't the ones offering him that much. We are offering 10 (TEN) TEN TEN TEN TEN TEN mil a year. Stop with this 13 nonsense. If the Dodgers want to offer that much then they can take him. Anyway, is he worth 10 (TEN TEN TEN TEN TEN), for the next 5 years? YES. Now, you tell me all the reasons why you think he is NOT worth 10 and I will rebute with why I think he IS worth 10. If you want an arguement, you got it. You begin. He is not worth 10 for 5 b/c he plays shortstop and is not a difference maker I beg to disagree. He not worth 10 for 5 b/c that is roughly 10% of of the budget Who's to say the trib didn't up the budget to $110 mil? he is not woth 10 for 5 b/c he will be not be able to carry the team Agreed he is not a man to carry the team. He is not worth 10 for 5 b/c the Cubs have a guy who will produce a large fraction of his numbers for a small fraction of the price Yes but that man will not bat infront of D Lee because we have Dusty as manager. He is simply not a difference make and he wiill be the second highest paid Cub on the team The Cubs will have to give raises to Aramis, Lee, Prior, and Z in the next couple of years. The Cubs sign him to a 10 for 5 contract and one or two of those guys are not going to be around. Woods $11 mil (or around) and Maddux $9 mil (or around) will be off the blocks and I would say those are 2 who we are vastely overpaying. He is not worth that amount of money. Your turn. Sorry I couldn't make that a little cleaner. Anyway, here are some reasons why he is worth $10 mil. We are overpaying Maddux and Wood and their collective $20 mil will be off the blocks for 2007 where we could probably get to VERY GOOD solid #3 and #4 pitchers under Prior and Zam for much less than $20 mil and still have money left over for raises. As FeartheCubs has said, we ARE in a window with pitchers and power players who we are underpaying, we need to go for a championship NOW, and you do that with Furcal, not with Cedeno. Furcal brings around 50 stolen bases a year and that's something we haven't had in a long time. It's my firm beleif that having someone on 1st like that does shake up the pitcher and can lead to less effective picthing. He brings a very solid (near GG) defense to SS that could help turn more double plays. He has a .352 carreer OBP and if we don't get him we will have someone batting infront of lee who has a carreer .298 OBP. We have to build around our star studs Zam, Lee, and Aram. Short Stop is NOT an area where many power hitting sluggers bat from. And for a SHORT STOP, Furcal is one of the top SS in the NL wouldn't that look great next to Lee and Aram production wise.

  4. Agree'd. Why trade MAX VALUE for MAX VALUE. Especially when you are trading a well loved Cubs player (the fans and team loves him). . If Derrick got 5/60 (12 a year) he is worth that and I want him hear for 5 more years. That is party due to the fact that you, as most fans do, think with your heart instead of your head. And I don't mean that as an insult, it is just the truth. Fair enough. But do you think Konerko is worth $12 mil per? I personally think Lee would sign for less, but he's deffinatly better than Konerko. Even if he does slip a little next year, it won't be that much. I beleive the story about him making adjustments at the plate and feeling more confident. He will be improved over his carreer stats that's for sure.

  6. Typical excuses and complacincy of Dusty Baker.

  8. WE're getting FURRcal WE're getting FURRcal.
  9. To me overpaying is paying more money to a single player than the franchise can afford. This means paying more than the player contributes to winning, spending too much when comparable cheaper options are available, weakening other positions by spending too much on one position. Market value is not necessarily relevant. If you need Furcal to win the WS, then you should spend as much as you can and need to, to get him regardless of market value. If he only adds 3 wins to a 77 win team, then perhaps he isn't worth as much. I think he'll add more than 3, and I think you were just loosely using those #'s as an example. I think the addition of Furcal (over perez at SS) would add about 10-15 more wins.
  10. I just hope he takes it. And I don't think 5/50 is so bad, overspending yet, but honestly we NEED to. I mean how much did we loose on Nomar last year about 5 mil? You have to consider Furcal is a very good lead-off (yes not great), very good defensive SS who is very unlikely to get hurt. Who puts up very good #'s.
  11. Well home and road games. And they are not called "outfits". Ever. Who cares what they are called.
  12. you mean the dark blue shirt with greyish pants? That's my favorite one!! It's true that the picther gets to pick the outfit at home games right?
  13. So there are pictures of him with his suite and cubs jersey over it (as all players do when they are at their new clubs press conference) I missed it and want to know what Chicago land channel I should be watching if I want to see new Cubs don the jersey. Plus, are there any sports sites that have the video of his conference?
  14. Totally agree. Stone opens his mouth and everybody runs with it. It's like becoming left handed after being a righty your entire life. Well when Wood hurts his arm again next year, you please come back here and tell me why, besides bad mechanics/throwing slightly accross his body, what else is it? Not to get into what the probable reasons are, but you can always come up with alternative reasons. He could simply have a genetic/developmental defect resulting in poor tensile strength in ligaments, for example. If I sawed your arm into 8 pieces, all the perfect mechanics in the world probably wouldn't be enough to keep you healthy Ok fair enough. I still think Stone is right in how he evaluated Wood's reaccuring injuries. But I'll get off that now. I actually want Wood to be dominant in 06. If he was, picking up his option will be the least of our thoughts. We'd probably be in the post season seriously contending if he did. And we wouldn't really care about any of that until the PS was over.
  15. Cubsin, what link? All I see is cubs.com nevermind I saw it. BTW what's the link for JonMDavis site? Any other good sites with some highlights to the Cubs 2003 post season? I didn't watch any of it back then I wasnt following the Cubs much.

  17. Good point Cubzfan. Can anyone link me to this radio call please? I'd love to hear it.
  18. Didn't he say Dusty is a big beleiver in "Fundamentals"? He is living in lala land if you ask me. I'm sorry, I'm starting to be a big Rothschild hater. If he doesn't want his pitchers to be injured maybe he should force more strict workout regimens, don't you think?
  19. No, not really Not a very good memory eh? He didn't appear in the one series vs. the white sox when they played in Chicago. Claimed his foot hurt and asked to be put on the DL.
  20. What's that for. It's true. He's affraid to come anywhere near the Cubs.
  21. He's not coming anywhere near chicago or in our division. Remember when he pretended to hurt his foot so he wouldn't have to play the white sox. Because he knew they're be Cubs fans there to boo him. That's why he won't be on any team that has to play the Cubs. he is essentially affraid of us. And he has reason to be. He ditched us.
  22. Why do people want to trade Murton? I get upset any time I hear this. Let him PRODUCE BIG for US. Let's keep a guy who will be only getting $300k - $500 and let Cubs be the one who are getting more production for the money.
  23. I don't blame just Wood. Wood, Hendry, Baker, Rothschild, Cubs Scouts, Patterson, Perez, Macias, Nomar, they all had a part in the 2004 failure (which BTW when refering to Wood not being very effective I was talking about last year). I'm mad at all of them. I don't browse these boards on the sole purpose of looking to argue. So I'm not going to respond to your arguements. I'm just a frustrated Cubs fan, and I have a reason to be.
  24. Kerry Wood "Good mechanics are mechanics that are repeated". . Does that mean if I lift my left leg up parrellel with the ground and keep it lifted while I throw with my right arm. Is that good mechanics if I can repeat it?
  25. What's he supposed to do? Just try different things that may or may not be worse for him without any direction? Wildly untrue. All the reports I've seen have Kerry being ready for ST. Have you seen otherwise? I just look at the last 2 years. Look, you choose to be optomistic about kerry. That's your choice. I do not. If he lights it up this year, GREAT. We'll probably give the CARDINALS a run for their money. But I don't expect it anymore. As you are saying, we don't have the proper pitching coaches therefore there is no one there to FIX Kerry. He will go down again next year. I guess the good thing about that is that he will be a LIGHTS OUT set-up man next year.
