  1. Sorry I didn't read your previous post who is this other player? Walker? And I can agree, Dusty Proofing is not improving as much as we could. Dusty is a BIG PROBLEM. I wish he were not here! But he is so unfortunatly we have to make a move like this as to say "Look Dusty this is a speedy lead-off guy so you have to bat him 1st" If we had a better manager last year In September we would have had Walker bat 1st and Murton bat 2nd EVERY DAY. And before that Walker 1st and perhaps Barret 2nd. I am not going to argue that. But I will argue that Pierre is a GOOD pick-up for us. He walks more than he strikes out, he has very good speed, and he will help this team next year.
  2. I agree. We are not done yet fixing this team. All I am saying is if our Aquisitions are Pierre, Wilkerson, Lugo, and Washburn, then I would be extremely happy. And that's a very realistic wish. It's also realistic to think Murton will continue to be a patient hitter making the pitcher pitch count go up. There's always going to be a negative view point. But as far as improvement. Murton - improvement over LF last year Pierre - improvement over CF Wilkerson - improvement over RF Cedeno - improvement over SS Middle Infeild is sketchy, I don't have any idea how will will proceed. But if it ends up something like Cedeno - Lugo then it will be pretty simular offensively (Cedeno assuming worse than Walker but Lugo better than Perez). . But it would be an improvement defensively over last year while retaining a simular potency offensively.
  3. THANK YOU VERY MUCH!! Let's just assume Pierre bounces back to norm. Say he posts a .340 OBP 2006. .248 out of leadoff for us last year. MONSTER UPGRADE indeed. How do you think that will effect Lee's RBIs and our runs scored out of lead-off. Quite a bit I think. Thanks for pointing that out.
  4. What you don't take into account in those adjusted stats is the the effect of having an effective runner on the bases having on a pitcher. Wilkerson doesn't give that threat. I have not seen it as a Cubs fan but I will be paying close attention to see how Pierre truely effects posing pitchers. And I'm excited watch that and see for myself how true it is or not.
  5. What production did we have in CF last year? Did we upgrade? YES. What production did we have in RF last year, will we upgrade? YES. Did will totally whoop the Cards and Stros last year? YES. Did we loose to bad teams last year? YES. Making some changes, getting rid of a few players, and adding a few different guys to our core is going to bring some positive things next year. I have a good feeling, I'm sorry I just have a good feeling and that's as much as I can argue right there. I do think we need another pitcher though, you can't count on Wood and we need another strong starter to compliment Zambrono and Prior.
  6. I think they can. If it's true they had about $20-$22 mil before Pierre then they still have around $15 mil salary. If you move Patterson, Walker, Williams ect. . for your other trades then you have another $5-$7 mil added to that. We could get a power RF and still get another starter. who's that power RF gonna be? i've all but given up hope of dunn/abreu? what other power RF's are out there to be had? it's not like there's a giles or vlad sitting there on the FA market ripe for the picking. i could have lived w/ two B outfielders (wilkerson, bradley, etc). i could have lived w/ a C outfielder (pierre) coupled w/ an A outfielder (dunn, abreu). i'm not so hot on a B + C (ie pierre + bradley, pierre + wilkerson). I hear ya, but I'd be happy with Pierre - Wilkerson so long as we get a Washburn - Millwood and never have Neifi as a starter.
  7. I do love Burnitz, but we need a very productive RF to round out this team. And another SP by the way. (Just gotta keep pounding that)
  8. I think they can. If it's true they had about $20-$22 mil before Pierre then they still have around $15 mil salary. If you move Patterson, Walker, Williams ect. . for your other trades then you have another $5-$7 mil added to that. We could get a power RF and still get another starter. I'm taking the wait and see route. So far I am pleased we finally made a move to improve our team NEXT YEAR from THIS YEAR and will just wait and see what happens next.
  9. There have been alot of posts here, I didn't read them all, but I just wanted to chime in. There have been alot of negative posts about Pierre, but I like this move. In my opinion we are just a few peices away from a very good contending team. We have to remember we smashed the big guys like Cardinals and Astros. We just had a problem beating the teams we were supposed to. So maybe by making some changes and adding some good hitters to our already established stars is all we need? Pierre has a career over .350 OBP. That's exactly what the doctor ordered to be batting in front of Lee. I bet Lee is already salivating about his RBI's next year. We get a slugging power hitting RF, possibly even make a move of an IF of Lugo/Cedeno and add a starting picther. And we are no team to scoff at. I personally want to see us make moves like this to put a winning team on the feild NOW.
  10. I like this one. But here would be my favorite. . . Pierre CF Lugo SS Lee 1B Abreu, Dunn, Wilkerson, or Huff RF Ramirez 3B Murton LF Barret C Cedeno 2B And another starting pitcher if we get a more affordable productive RF like Huff or Wilkerson. And not if we get an Abreu or Dunn.
  11. Aramisfan needs to make a photoshop of Pierre in a Cubs uniform it looks like. . . http://chicago.cubs.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/news/article.jsp?ymd=20051206&content_id=1277743&vkey=news_chc&fext=.jsp&c_id=chc A CUB by Dec-7th!! Sorry if this was posted before. But it seems like it will be finalized Wednesday (that's today since I'm up late) EDIT: Guess this is not old, it was just posted a half hour ago in the middle of the night! :D
  12. Furcal is better but not much. When you add in the fact that Furcal makes about 8 million more than Lugo will, Lugo is the better player for the money. Enough said. Lugo G AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI BB SO SB CS AVG OBP SLG OPS 2003 TB 117 433 58 119 13 4 15 53 35 88 10 3 .275 .333 .427 .760 2004 TB 157 581 83 160 41 4 7 75 54 106 21 5 .275 .338 .396 .734 2005 TB 158 616 89 182 36 6 6 57 61 72 39 11 .295 .362 .403 .765 Furcal G AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI BB SO SB CS AVG OBP SLG OPS 2003 Atl 156 664 130 194 35 10 15 61 60 76 25 2 .292 .352 .443 .795 2004 Atl 143 563 103 157 24 5 14 59 58 71 29 6 .279 .344 .414 .758 2005 Atl 154 616 100 175 31 11 12 58 62 78 46 10 .284 .348 .429 .777 Do you even know WHAT you want? First you say Lugo is good but what players will it cost us? Then you seem like you want to win NOW but don't want to give up young players? I'm not even sure you know what you want, or what you are thinking for that matter. You are proving no point with your babble.
  13. I'm not pessimistic like you are. How are those 3 players added to Lee and Aram a bad offense? Answer me that. And how is Furcal SO much better than Lugo?
  14. Agreed. people need to remember that, if you take Lee out of last year's lineup, the combined OBP for the Cubs was ~.308 Yes. And with these guys added and replacing Burintz, Patterson, and Neifi (gulp). . The combined OBP of the team could jump somewhere close to .330
  15. My whole point of getting Willis is to strengthen our pitching. You don't get rid of prior after doing that. Pictching wins, and even if wood does not perform this year you have. . Zambrono Prior Willis Maddux Rusch And if wood DOES come big next year, WOW!! Zambrono Prior Wood Willis Maddux. OMG. If we had Cabrera in right, we can still get good guys like Wilkerson, Bradley, ect.. . for the remaining OF. Just got an average guy good for some power and .350 OBP. IMO you won't need much more than the offense we have already with THAT line-up.
  16. Then Cabrera should be our primary target. I would love to see us get Willis back. I think we have enough picthing prospects to land both. I mean look at what teams were giving away for Castillo, ect. . . Not much. You give florida players like Cedeno, Hill, Pie, Pinto, Nolasco, ect. . You could get Cabrera and Willis. It's Hendry's unwillingness to do that, not our lack of talent to pull it off.
  17. I'd have to ask them to throw in Dontrelle for that price, too. I wouldn't, it's Miguel Cabrera we're talking about here :) Why not talk about willis? I have talked about this before. If willis and cabrera want to go, we have to offer an amazing package so we can get Pierre, Willis, and Cabrera. It's only the PERFECT fit. We need CF, RF and another starter. Willis, Pierre, and Cabrera bring us to the WS no doubt.
  18. I would be very happy with that. I don't know how someone could be dissapointed with that. Lugo - close to Furcal #'s, gives us a base threat, carreer .340 OBP Wilkerson - lots of doubles, some power, carreer .365 OBP Huff - doesn't stike out alot, good for 20-30 HR, carreer .342 OBP Those are exactly the kind of guys we need to compliment Lee, Ramirez, Barret, Murton, ect. . Good average to above average guys, with good OBP, some power and speed divided among those guys, not a whole lot of strike outs, good contact, pretty patient hitters, not swinging at the 1st pitch all the time. That is why I'd be suprised if we got them, it would be too good if we got them, so we won't.
  19. These words all strung together made me just choke on my Cheetos. mmmm Cheetos. Mmmmm choked up cheetos.
  20. If it's Williams for Wilkerson I'd do it and get RF over with. In my perfect world we would then get Lugo for SS and Bradley for CF. Then hopefully enough left over for a class B SP.
  21. I opt to keep a more optomistic outlook. We have around $23 million to spend. And if we are going with Hairston/Perez at 2B and Cedeno at SS (GREAT) Then we have all that money to spend on CF, RF, and a SP. With Patterson gone that's an extra 2.5 that goes into his replacement player.
  22. I'd switch Walker and BRadle in that lineup. And if thats our lineup we better throw some money towards starting pitching. I agree and I would be estatic if that was our line-up AND we got a ~3.50 ERA type pitcher. That's alot of very good OBP and nice mix of speed and power to go with our very good picthing. Pessimist tells me not to expect it. But that is a very reasonable and exceptable line-up. Let's just hope something simular to that happens this OS.
  23. I'd surely donate a dollar or two. And I'm sure others would as well. We might be inclined to donate more if you added little *I support NSBB* bits to our avatars.
  24. Hey! If he was leading off he would hit into less Double Plays!
  25. Good, I don't want to get rid of Maddux. He is way overpaid true, but he will be servicable again next year. We just need a high quality guy as backup for wood. And if Wood is ON, then we truely will have a strong SP line of guys.
