  1. You can't accept a 4.5 #5 starter? Can you name any club that has all 5 starts with an ERA under 4.5? An innings eater is more valuable than you might beleive. As it saves the bullpen from overwork, and helps to keep them fresh. . A #5 innings eater, is something we really should get. You don't spend $5M+ on a #5 starter. It doesn't matter how many innings he pitches in a season. You use the 5 slot to evaluate minor league pitching talent, which we have. Very well. But one of the other 4 have to be a bonified innings eater. You're wrong. They have to be good. You look for a good pitcher, not a mediocre durable one. If you find a good pitcher, the innings take care of themselves. You've just described an innings eater.
  2. Elaborate, or don't post at all.
  3. Prayer is very powerful. So I will do so. Let's get some positive energy flowing the Lee's way everyone.

  5. I don't see why anybody would be for trading Murton away. . He is above average in just about every statistic, including HR 9 at 11. While many of you want production tied to specific positions, I say let go of that old fashioned way of thinking. If we retain Ramirez and sign Soriano then you will be getting alot of HR out of 1B, 2B, 3B, C, and RF. We will be paying Murton, what, $450k? next year? You're getting very good production out of LF for a steal. Let's not waste that money well spent by trading him away. Improve 2B, CF, or SS before you even worry about replacing Matt Murton. Matt Murton is a commodity outproducing his value. And putting up very acceptable #'s in LF. Remember last year? Dubious/Holly? We've found our LF, let's not trade him away.

  7. Don't know. He also considers himself a Cub. If the Cubs get a big FA before him. He might consider one more go for the WS in chicago.
  8. As a #5 innings eater? You bet. I'd welcome Maddux back at around $5-$6 mil.
  9. No. Hendry wasn't smart enough to include a club option in the contract. They may have basically paid him to rehabilitate for a year only to see him walk away.Did it occur to you that maybe Miller didn't want it? Wow. you do know that a contract is a two way deal, right? Yes, I do. That's my point. Just because the Cubs don't hold a team option on Miller next season doesn't automatically mean that Hendry didn't think to try to get it. Contracts are a "two way deal", as you put it. What was your point, exactly? that nobody held a gun to hendry's head and forced him to sign miller w/o an option. hendry could have said no option, no contract. you make it sound as though hendry had no choice. It was a $1 mil deal. No huge loss. What's your beef?
  10. If we got Soriano I'd take Pie too. And then spend that Pierre money saved to go toward your 1 great starter.
  11. I'd take a computer over dusty. I guess it all depends on, WHO WROTE THE PROGRAM!!!

Well, it was a nothing contract. And it could work in our favor if Miller is the kind a guy who likes returning favors. We'll see. Either he will be the lovable cub next year or the dirty traitor.
  13. Dunn walked once with 3 balls.
  14. Here, here. I'd admit, that while I am a Hill fan, I thought of him as a spot starter/long reliever, Glendon Rusch type. Looking bacK...comparing to Rusch was a HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE decision by me. And I apologize for doubting Hill. With that said...Hill still needs to developed that cut fastball that can run into a lefty, and away from a righty. And if he does that....all I can say is....Zito, Zito who? Ah, that's a bit better. Hill's got this going for him though. He throws a 76 MPH curve, and a 92 MPH fastball. That's great. He attacks the batters and seems to always be in a stikes to balls advantage. And he changes his arm angle drastically yet still is able to hit his spots almost all the time. I find it suprising no one is talking about how he seems to have mastered throwing from any angle. Except Len noticed it.
  15. Hill is more valuable to us than Dunn (right now). We desperately need pitching. Hill shows that he could be a very good guy next year.
  16. I've been on Rich Hill's side, but even I wouldn't have seen this. .
  17. You guys are forgeting the most important element in crow eating. The appologizing. . I'm sorry. I'm so sorry for doubting him. Plz forgive me. Go on. :D
  18. Damn. Back then I knew Hill had the stuff to make it, but after this start. Damn, he has impressed me ALOT. I never thought he could do THIS good. He's far exceeded my expectations of him.
  19. I'd rather talk about who'se likely. But ya'll are free to discuss whatever. Anyone, GOOD, that is likely? :)
  20. Good 05 06 comparisons there fred. I agree with you too. Theroit might nto be a bad idea going INTO 07 if we have enough big bats around him in the line-up to "exeriment". . We however do not have all the big bats we need. And 2B, CF, or SS are the positions we could use a nice upgrade at.
  21. For him to get a splinter wouldn't he actually have to move while he's glued to the bench? I think they were talking about tongue splinters. :)
  22. That's your opinion, not fact. People are perfectly welcome to talk about it if they want. True, you can talk. But I agree with him. I do not think this trade is likely, at all.
  23. If JH hires a new coaching staff next year, then the head trainer will probably come in and spot a problem in the work out routine that was causing the injuries to the pitchers.
  24. Why get rid of Murton who is progressing quite nicely in power and OBP and could realistically put up a .360 OBP next year and "possibly" a .370 OBP next year. And hit 10-20 HR for $450k and replace him who admitedly hits alot of HR but has about the same OBP or only slightly better than Murton. It's not a huge upgrade besides power. I'd rather upgrade positions which are really weak, like RF, CF, 2B, or SS. If he's getting on base at almost the same clip or more AND hitting for a ton more power, what exactly is the argument for not wanting Dunn over Murton again? I honestly don't see a downside. The downside? $$$. How much does Dunn make? $7 mil? $10 mil? Not sure. I wouldn't be against it if Murton played elsewhere in the OF but this is the Cubs and I don't expect them to know what they have and use it effectively. It'd be likely he just flat out replaces Murton, and that is, flatout wrong.
  25. Smart-butt answer aside, the reason why Pie wasn't called up is because he "isn't ready". That is the easiest answer. I know the Cubs got kids like Jose Reyes, but Pie is too important to rush. The decision not to call up Pie was the RIGHT call, regardless of fans wanted to see a "top prospect" playing at the major league level. The Cubs can't afford another Patterson mistake. That, IMO, is the reason why Pie wasn't call up. There's nothing wrong with a top (young) prospect being called up to play the last month of a lost season. IF the coaches were good ones. Letting Pie know just to play and don't worry about results, and teach him correctly how to deal with whatever happens. However this is the Cubs and their coaches are horrible. So in this case, yes it was right not to call him up. .
