  1. Ryan being part of the Cubs team in any way while the Cubs won the world series. Now THAT, would be the greatest thing.
  2. I can't wait until Theroit becomes the next Eckstein and they talk about him instead. .
  3. Ryno as Cubs 1st base coach!? Hahaha this is awesome. 'Ol Ryno back with the team.
  4. We're still waiting. What was this thing of value Hendry got in return for Maddux? He got a magic glove that can drive in RUNS!!!
  5. Trade him for prospects then. . Trade him when his value is at an all-time low...right. Fancy idea. Even if he has a bad year this year, he's of more value to this team than a mediocre prospect would be. If the goal is to not rely on him, label him the 5th starter with Marshall, Guzman, etc, ready to go. Get a big name and a smaller name (I was for Suppan before the playoffs...not so sure now) to fill in between Hill and Zambrano. If you think Miller is going to start the season healthy, go after him. There's not much use in getting rid of Prior at this point unless he's tied on to a bigger deal -- like acquiring A-Rod. Who are you to say he's ever going to BE a value again. He's being paid $4-$5 mil to a possible 5th starter. When he's not healthy, you're wasting $4 mil. How many years do you want to keep wasting $4 mil?
  6. Absolutely. He's been injured. That sucks. But just letting a guy with that much potential walk away for nothing, when all you'd be able to buy with his salary is a crappy stopgap? That is absurd. I'd much rather take a risk and see if he can recover. As I've said before, I doubt Le Duca or any of the commentators know anything more about his situation than we do. If his $4 mil is the last $4 mil that goes into a guy like Matsuzaka? Then I'd prefer to cut ties with Prior. I honestly don't think he's going to pitch much, even effectively in the next few years. He's had these reaccuring problems for the past couple of years. All the while we've been paying him $3-$4 mil. If he was still making league minimum, sure. But he's a costly "wait and see" guy. I didn't even know you could do that. Knowing that, I'd rather honestly try to trade him for decent prospects, or just cut ties. I'd honestly rather pay Miller $4 mil than Prior. Because he actually looks like he'd beable to pitch next year. Prior does not. I have no faith he will pitch at all next year. .
  7. The Cubs already have a bunch of guys in their organization who can pitch as well as Miller over the course of a season, imo. He's been injured way too much over his career for my liking. I'd rather see that $3m-$4m go to a better player. None of our rookies, aside from Hill. Were pitching near as well as Miller was those last 4, 5 games. None.
  8. I don't see how signing Miller would be a bad idea (at a good price, if he feels inclined to help us next year). . maybe $3-$4 mil? He was not injured at all by the end of the season. He was pitching and pitching well might I add. Just needs to get a bit more velocity back. But even AS IS, he is a FINE, #5. If he gets some more velo then he'll just be even better. .
  9. I just want to say. I want either Matsuzaka or Saito. They are both good, and they are good "options" aside from the US FA. Plus dammit, I want a japanese person on my team!!
  10. from what i can tell pierre didn't like it on the north side of town. i'm glad. But Cubs players always say they loved the northside more than anywhere else. To be honest, he probably WOULD have loved it if we won atleast 75-85 games. But we didn't. That terrible record probably was hard for all of the Cubs players. . This was NOT a fun year, not in the slightest. . But I wouldn't pay him more than $5.5mil, so it's probably for the best.
  11. He's going to have to clean up that delivery. There are enough pauses in it to get him nailed with balk calls. Still, he could be a nice pickup. Can you get called with a balk when there are no men on base? I noticed he just trows it without even a little windup when there are men on base. Saito looks like he'd be a nice cheaper option to Matsuzaka. I'd pick him us as a #4.
  12. That's what we ALL said, when he was a cub. .
  13. Via FA or someone who might not take too much talent to net in a trade? I want someone slightly better than Jones OBP wise and simular slugging and HR. Because my Ideal line-up, if Hendry did everything I wanted to do. It would be this. . SS Theroit LF Murton 1B D Lee 2B Soriano 3B Ramirez C Barret RF ~Jones CF Pie P This would be a very good line-up freeing up alot of money for Starting Pitching and possibly a bid for Matsasuka and or Saito + another FA pitcher. .
  14. Mark my words down. If the Cubs do not keep Murton in LF it will be the stupidest mistake they could ever make this off-season. Players like Murton (and Duncan for the Cards) are the young studs you want to keep because they are ready to produce and save you alota dough.
  15. Yeah but instead of hearing "Derreck Lee and the Cubs take on so and so from the so and so's" on WGN. . . You'll hear "As DLee and ARod of the Cubs take on so and so of the so and so's". . I think if he's not the next "Mr. Cub". . He'll be up there with Derreck. .
  16. Thanks for sharing. .
  17. How many teams want him for 2nd base. How many teams NEED him for 2nd base? When was the last time he PLAYED second base. I say if the Cubs tell them they want him to lead off, but might need him at CF for 1 year before he goest o 2nd, and the price is right. Then I don't see how a cow would have to jump over the moon, before he joined the cubs. . I'll also see a cow jump over a moon before a team signs him to 5/20.
  18. What happened in the 1990 upset? (BTW I do know Piniella was managing it. Ahhhh, how much I have learned about you, sweat lou). .
  19. Then that's why it's important to either talk Soriano in trying CF letting him know he WILL be used as a 2B once Pie comes up. Or get a 1 year stop-gap. Because if we are going to make some serious moves and legitimatly contend next year. You don't want to have Pie as your only CF option, incase he is struggling when you are in the middle of a pennant race. .
  20. For 1 year and We've already solidified SS or 2B with either Soriano or Arod. And kept Ramirez too? Yep I'd be for that. . That way you have Mathews as a back-up incase when you bring Pie up mid season, is unable to succeed. .
  21. I'd like to give him a shot if it means you can spend more money on RF and P. For example if you decided to go after Soriano for 2B and traded Jones away for a bigger RF bat. However I think it's smart to have a good CF stopgap for a year. However Soriano could play CF for 1 year and then easily just move to 2B to make way for Pie. . If we have someone at 2B who isn't doing too good, Pie could be called up after the all-star break to get a shot in CF. .
  22. Buck you suck!!
  23. I want to read the headline "Prior celebrates 1st April start!" Until then, faaggettaboutit.
