  1. Us signing Soriano. Us going after Shmidt and shoring up the pitching with another quality guy. I bet they're pretty excited to play some baseball in '07. I think they will all play hard and in addtion to our new Cubs coaching staff there will be alot of excitement in the 2007 season.
  2. Still on! Thanks for reminding me about comcast sportsnet!!
  3. NO! That's preposterous!!
  4. If the payroll is now $120M, they should be able to get him. If it's still in that $110-115M range, then it would seem they would need to dump 2 of the following 4 salaries for some margin: Dempster, Eyre, Jones and Izturis. For argument's sake, I am assuming Barrett and Howry are going nowhere. Phil Rogers hints that payroll might top $125M: ETA: Murphy on the Score says that all indications are that payroll will be $120M+. What a great feeling it is to be sitting here reading that Serena. I tell you.
  5. Sure I'll take Floyd at $2 mil. He ain't gonna go for that though.
  6. I can see giving thanks for Soriano, and Schmidt. But is Floyd really that important of a peice?
  7. I would not want to be the opposing pitcher when Zambrano is in the line-up. I would not want to face that Cubs line-up.
  8. It might not have anything to do with spot in the order. He declined after a few years in the league when pitchers stopped giving him stuff to hit. He started to suck big time late in 2003, with NY, and bombed at leadoff in the playoffs. I think his resurgence had more to do with adjustments than with his comfort at leadoff compared to other spots. Your entitled to your theories. I could see that as possible. But I'd rather not toy with what's working from last year. Keep him in the 1 spot, and hope he keeps it up. Lou could change the line-up mid season to see if it effects Soriano once he's hitting well at the 1 spot.
  9. Thank you, I didn't know it was that much! Here's my line-up. Soriano - batting first. Lou is smart enough to look at his stats and realize he hits better at lead-off. Why aren't some of you. Some of you are saying, we bat him 5th if he doesn't like it or not. Why aren't you acknowledging the much better #'s leading off? Maybe it's not all that smart to assume he hits better because he bats leadoff. If Lou can get him to accept 5th and be happy, that would be ideal. He's had nearly 2000 PA at both lead-off and other spots. And there is a large difference. Why is it not smart to look at career splits with that large of a sample again? Oh it DEFFINATLY would be ideal to bat him 5th. But I want to put him wherever he posts the best #'s. And if that's lead-off, then so be it. I agree with that setiment. If Lou can get him to hit as well in the heart, that would be ideal. But Lou is doing the smart thing, starting off with him leading off.
  10. At about 2:30 WSCR said Hendry will be on in about a half hour to talk about the Soriano signing. I don't know if they ment they were going to carry a press conference, or have him on. Has anyone heard him yet? I've been switching between WSCR and WGN.
