If any move they make is driven in any significant way by something as meaningless as "making a good impression on the fanbase" as a real priority as opposed to doing what it takes to actually improve the team then they're a pack of useless jackal-monsters feasting on our souls.

They have one of the best farm systems in baseball. This is an absurd thing to say. think debbiedownsr was specifying the major league vets you could move. Sontensei has a nice thread on that already Re-reading it you're right. I think my mind is just blanking when encountering anyone who wants the Cubs to start selling off pieces en masse yet again at this point.

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS. This is good snark. Truthfully, it's pent up frustration toward people- not posters, but the living, breathing, whining human beings I encounter in my day to day life (believe it or not, I have one, kind of,) who have the same woeful attitude toward this team going into the home stretch as they did when we had Justin [expletive] Germano at the front of our rotation. We may not look like champions at this time, but that doesn't mean that folks have to act like a bunch of pissy emo kids who refuse to let themselves enjoy the ground floor of what could be one hell of an era. And if that means gamble away a decent prospect or two for a rental, then I'm ok with it. And I trust that our FO won't go overboard. Man, trust me, you don't have to explain it; most Cubs fans are awful. The vacation I was on was a family reunion of sorts and most of the family members there are Cubs fans and I love them but holy hell, most of them are the absolute worst when it comes to the Cubs. Everything is all doom and gloom and fan self-hatred. -
Except all of those ones he awesomely won games with.

None of which ever accomplished anything close to the minimal amount of things Soler has already accomplished at the major league level. (Other than maybe Patterson) MAYBE Patterson? He was a 2.5 WAR player in 2003, 5.0 in 2004, 3.8 in 2006 and 1.3 in 2007.

There's few people on this team that should be untouchable, and Soler is almost certainly not one of them. That said, moving him now for a reliever, even Chapman, doesn't seem like a prudent course of action. And actually selling high on those guys wouldn't have meant trading them for relievers, too. Relievers are piles of meat.

The only crazy part is anyone who actually thought that was decent depth. Basically everything they did to set up for this year from top to bottom was figure everything would be juuuuuuuuuuuuuuussssst good enough, mainly because they money just isn't there.

See? If Rizzo bounces back to being Rizzo and, like, one of Soler or Bryant starts hitting like expected things suddenly start looking very different. There's a lot of baseball left, but typically masochistic Cubs fans are convinced it's impossible that something like Rizzo just being Rizzo will happen. And Castro is fixed. Didn't you guys watch the game last night? SPEND IT ALL.
