You're really just comparing turds at that point. I don't think Baez would provide much of an upgrade, but I do think he and Castro still have value in trades and I'd prefer see them shipped out and their value propped up by some prospects. If the offense is truly just going to play poor/prospect-crazy yet again and basically just stand pat with parts they already have I think they're making a huge mistake.

Sounds about right; I kinda think the FO really don't know what to make of Castro and Baez. Castro I could still see them signing way back when if they were in charge at the time, but I doubt they draft Baez like the Cubs did at the time.

Why would you want him shipped to Japan instead of being traded? Personally, I want to trade both Castro and Baez; I really don't care who they play at 2B for the time being. Having a turd bat in the lineup isn't sinking their hitting; it's that too many players are having down seasons or are too streaky or still adjusting to being in the bigs. I'd like to see the Cubs use the resources they have and go get something like Carlos Gomez and Hamels and then just keep your fingers crossed that the critical bats in the lineup stop wallowing in a pit of despair. That way they've made moved to help this year and the future. If guys like Bryant and Soler and Russell and Schwarber click long term on top of having players like Rizzo and Gomez then I'm really not worried about the Cubs having a nobody manning 2B this season, or even the next.

I can see us letting him go on an August waiver claim or getting nothing notable in a trade. $38m guaranteed is an awful lot for a guy averaging less than 1 fWar per year over the last three. He's blown his cost out of the water when he's actually been useful, which he was just last year. I agree that you're likely not going to get much trading just him, but if they actually finally start trading some of these prospects I don't think it it would be hard to find a FO who figures they can fix him.

Why would they banned instead of the meatballs? With the over the top madness that's been the past 3 gamethreads, I would have expected you them to be all over it like a pack of vicious, gif happy jackals. Personally, I was out of town without easy internet access, but even if I had it why would I (and others) want to wallow in the meat stew? Leave the game threads to the animals.
