  1. Gould is a true hero falling on his sword like this. I raise my glass to you, Robbie.
  2. was this posted in a 3 point game with like 8 minutes left (and the bears having just completed two longish pass plays - i think this came before that bubble screen check on 3rd down)? so much unnecessary scorn 6 million forms of communication he could have chosen from and he chose...salty.

  4. I have no idea who this person, but he should go by "Brettel Dredge" from now on since that's how I read his name.
  5. I just think between the defense and the injuries RF is going to be too much of a question mark with Soler even though I expect him to be pretty solid offensively. I'm not losing sleep over them sticking with him right now, but I wouldn't mind if they still end up trading him.
  6. The "everybody gets a trophy" complainers are annoying. It's pretty simple to differentiate a trophy that has been given for winning and for participation. It's not ruining anyone's life and at most it goes into a memory book or something. They act like its new or that it's unique to this generation. We got participation trophies in soccer in the early 80's...this isn't a new thing Yeah, they've been around forever. No kid is thinking, "gee, I'm just as good as the kid/team that won the BIG trophy;" they all know what a participation trophy is. For the most part I sucked at playing sports and had a huge collection of participation trophies. All I ever thought was, "hey, it's kinda cool I got a little trophy I can put on my dresser" and they would remind of the teams I actually enjoyed being on.
  7. Prior, for me, definitely falls into that exception. That's the one named jersey I still have, and [expletive] anyone who thinks it's lame; him in 2003 makes it worth it. I went to a game with a friend a couple years ago who was baffled that the rest of us didn't think it was pathetic that we saw a few Derrek Lee jerseys. It was really weird. Then I saw him a few months later wearing a Fukudome shirsey and it all made sense.
  8. Heydongman.
  9. There will never be a Cub I detest more than that little turd.
  10. The distinction isn't likely to be all that meaningful though, if Heyward misses a chunk of time with injury he's even less likely to want to opt out. The exact details will be really crucial on his deal for a lot of reasons. It's probably all about timing. He could miss all of 2016 and be in a position where he would want to opt out after year three. https://youtu.be/j4cBRJXSNso

  12. There's also the jagoffs who flip out over the idea of everyone getting some kind of trophy. Calm down, you shaved apes; most of those kids hate that they're being made to do this, and a little hunk of plastic for them at the end of it isn't the end of the [expletive] world.
  13. Baseball (and really any sports) jerseys are so damn expensive that I can't imagine buying one for a current player unless he's a slam dunk legend. I ended up just getting a Santo when I finally did get one because I wanted to make sure it would always be relevant. I don't think that really matters too much unless it's something really dumb like getting a Theriot or Barney or even Fukudome jersey. It's completely subjective, but those are the ones that stick out to me; if I see someone with a Soriano jersey, or Prior's, or Castro's in a few years it's just like, "oh, that's that player that was actually really awesome for the Cubs."
  14. Definitely. Being the AL makes it even easier to root for that. I hope the Yankees have many, many years of never going to the WS with an awesome Starlin Castro kicking ass.
  15. Thank goodness for sample size.
  16. I really hope he's able to keep up some momentum despite the change in scenery; he really seemed to have figured something out once he was moved off of SS and was just such a blast to watch for the last 2+ months of the season. Good Starlin was always one of the most fun players to watch for me.
  17. Not too many options to upgrade this year without having to pay several more limbs' worth, so we stuck with our current seats. Right now we're on the 1B side, just past the visitor's bullpen and by one of the tunnels (which goes directly out to the main entrance).
  18. after the last trade that stewart made, i have no doubt that his phone has been ringing red hot from teams asking what it would take to pry away bradley. I remember back in high school there was a vending machine in the cafeteria that one day, inexplicably, started dispensing five or six sodas at a time instead of one. Word got out, and there was a rush on the thing until it was empty. That's probably something like what is going on with Stewart right now. This seems a bit more apt:
  19. He's probably pretty lazy, what with being a big dude and all, so I'll say missionary.
  20. But Chicago teams already have a funky diabetic.

  22. I thought this thread was going to be about some kind of terrible vendetta the Chinese have against gooney and his family.
  23. I'll donate the rest myself if Tim drinks a bottle Malort instead and films it.
  24. THIS IS WHAT CORRUPTS SKYNET, YOU FOOL!
  25. Derwood doubling down today.
