  1. Holy [expletive], what.
  2. Hey, getting defensive over a player the Cubs weren't even trying to get except in his head makes perfect sense.
  3. It was only a matter of time until TomVs.Godzilla imploded yet again.
  4. Oh, what is this fresh nonsense.
  5. i love javy and even i think this is ridiculous They can add other minor pieces as well. Even if you're inexplicably talking about some previously unknown third Baez in the Cubs system who was secretly amazing, you could add in the two actual Baezes and you'd still have a scenario where the Rays laugh and laugh and laugh and laugh.
  6. thank you if anything, that drought that i didn't experience like 80% of, adds a little intrigue. i'd rather win championships, but my desire to win a WS has just about nothing to do with eliminating the "curse" thing, outside of the cool element it would add to the narrative (i'm sure theo loves this part). i mean, yeah, it sucks that they haven't won one in that long, i guess, but i wouldn't feel any better about the cubs had they won one in 1969 or something (or even 84). i'd almost rather have the drought than a random championship somewhere along the way there...but either way it doesn't matter much. Totally spot on. The people who have a right to bitch are the ones who are in their 90s and early 100s. Otherwise, being a Cubs fan means you are no different than an Indians, Brewers, Pirates, Mariners, Astros or Rangers one. I mostly agree but... Indians: At least they can watch video highlights of their team in the World Series...in color. They have memories of their team winning 5 World Series games in the 90's. They have AL Champion banners Brewers: Same but to a much lesser extent. Pirates: They've won a title, they had fun memories of "We are family" and Stargell hitting a HR in game 7 of the world series. even if they weren't alive, they can connect with those memories, similar to how Bears fans can with the 85 team even though someone like me was too young to remember Mariners: OK they can compete with us Astros: Again they have a recent experience of winning a pennant and playing in a world series. Heck they can watch their pennant winning celebration in HD Rangers: Same plus they won 4 WS games within the last 5 years Obviously winning a World Series is the end goal and ultimately the only goal that definitively matters, but the Cubs have a longer pennant drought then any other team has a world series drought (among teams that have won a world series)...we don't have 100 years of pain, but we carry 100 years of baggage as fans whether we want to or not. Some people it doesn't bother, others it does. This post is almost unbearably lame.
  7. Because they were a disappointment in 2009 and then flat out stunk until 2015. Not because they didn't win a WS. So you are implying that there is absolutely no correlation between the stigma surrounding the Cubs and our 107 year World Series drought? Come on. I don't care; I'm not going to look at a 97-win season and an exciting playoff run as a failure or a joke because they haven't won a WS in over a century. I enjoy watching the team I'm a fan of do well.

  9. didn't the Cubs win 4 playoff games this year? Is that what you call success? Yes.
  10. As appealing as Soler's potential is, last season made him a really big question mark. Gordon isn't a sexy move, but barring injury he's about as close a lock as you can hope for.

  12. Han me bookies.
  13. Put him in your siiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiig. In your mutha [expletive] siiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiig.
  14. What the FO presupposes is...maybe last year's team was a little TOO likable.
  15. I think WSR started writing this post 6 months ago and just now remembered to hit "send."
  16. TYPE COOKIE YOU IDIOT.
  17. i still watch poker That just because you host an online gaming site so I won't hold it against you. I can't believe everyone missed this opportunity to point out David's cinematic debut at 0:43:
  18. Well, yeah, but I'm also assuming going forward that the sports aren't going to stick around to stupidly go down with the ship with traditional cable. I'm figuring they'll be pushing hard to shift more to a la carte and online subscription models as opposed to doing [expletive] like they did in the 80's. I mean, they basically have to. The loss of ESPN subscribers has been faster than the loss of cable/satellite subscribers. People are switching out of packages that include programming they don't want/need. That's going to crush carriage fees if it continues. Good. It was obvious a long-ass time ago the Cubs missed the the brief bubble of obscene TV deals. Move on to whatever's coming next.

  20. They don't need a stupidly insane Dodgers deal to just finally be making a [expletive] ton more money than they had been off of TV. Plus why would ESPN's woes bode poorly for niche sports channels? That's the whole reason outdated cable models like ESPN are slipping; a mish-mash of programming that ultimately has little that each viewer actually wants to watch. And man, the comments section of that article was unexpectedly nutso bananas; who knew the reason the ESPN was going down the tubes was because they're a bunch of filthy liberal perverts?
  21. They're definitely bad, but like I said earlier in the season they're a "good bad team" where they were losing enough games to get a better draft pick but they were in pretty much all of the games and weren't losing in catastrophic fashion. Then you'd just be plain ol' bad, which usually can't be fixed quickly unless you have an amazing draft or two almost across the board. Though now they've been upgraded a bit to throw the better draft pick out the window. Last night was awesome, but I can't help but wish they had at least a couple fewer wins overall this season. if i had something to wish for, it'd definitely be that they have a couple more wins, because then 10-12 wins would be looking hella realistic right now. Well, yeah, I wish they were actually undefeated, but I think as ti stands them missing the playoffs despite the makeup of their remaining schedule is more likely than them doing anything in the playoffs or even making them in the first place. I just wanted a better draft pick specifically because I DON'T think they're hopelessly bad in terms of being able to compete next year.
