It took me a long time to figure out that big time FA was something the Cubs were allowed to participate in on a regular basis. For the longest time it seemed like unless it was extending a player they already had (sometimes; losing Maddux like they did at the young age I was just instilled in me a sense that these guys were likely to be gone) or lucking in to the Dawson situation, the Cubs just didn't do such a thing.

My ironclad theory is that so many of his highlight plays were him having to correct his dumbassery in terms of his routes, tracking and general positioning. And defensive metrics are sorcery. THIS IS ALL SOUND. LET IT BE KNOWN.

Careful, the Cardinals might be listening. The talk here is the Nationals are now going hard after Phillips, so the Reds look to be in fire sale-mode; I'd like to think that even the Reds aren't dumb enough to dump any big pieces in the division.

That bloc of ESPN late afternoon shows is always on a bunch of the TV's in my office. If I tried to change it I'd probably be killed.

Le Batard is pretty smart by sportswriter standards Yeah, I think he's pretty good, relatively speaking. Easily one of the most entertaining/listenable talking heads on ESPN these days. He's nowhere near being as bad as Cowherd.

Read the book Entangled in Ivy if you haven't. I know some people don't like George Castle as an author, but its a pretty good look into the Tribune Ownership and MacPhail FO through the 90's and early 2000's. Will give it a whirl. Hopefully it's on Kindle. Thx. LOL side note: Goerge Castle now writes for that sports mockery blog hahahahahahahahha The only saving grace of that [expletive] show is that they don't have a comments section.

Yeah, most of my good feelings towards the Cubs right now are due to the FO; the Ricketts are just sort of there, building hotels that will smell like McDonald's grease.

They fought and kept it close and could have won pretty easily; if they have to lose, I appreciate that almost all of their losses have been like that. Next year they're gonna flip it, dammit.
