The temporarily boring offense makes me sad. I think it's mainly the lack of Rizzo greatness for about 2 weeks now. -

Why, can he catch? Gee, I can't fathom why the Cubs would carry an extra catcher to back up and old man and a guy with a bad back for the time being. He's a waste of a roster spot. He can't hit worth a damn, and if the need for a back up-back up catcher arose, we could pick up another 10 of Fedorawhatsit on a moment's notice. Besides, isn't there supposed to be an emergency catcher on every roster? One of the bench guys who could survive a few innings behind the plate in the even that the other two are out of the game? Yeah, there was one, and then his leg exploded. Until Montero's back is up to snuff they're going to have a cruddy 3rd string catcher.

Everyone has a better AB there; it's still ridiculous to bring up Contreras when he'd barely be playing. I wouldn't be crazy about him being part of a 3 catcher rotation either. I wanted him to be called up for Montero but maybe Joe wanted 3 catchers to begin with and that's why they went with Fedo. It didn't make sense to bring him up then, either; Ross is doing fine and is a fantastic defensive catcher. Any offense Contreras MIGHT bring in that small window is likely offset by how he's a work in progress behind the plate and has no real rapport with anyone on the staff.

I think Willson gives you a much better at bat there, but I'm trying to stay positive Duke. Everyone has a better AB there; it's still ridiculous to bring up Contreras when he'd barely be playing.

"Our [expletive]" being optimism about the Cubs winning the game. It's the "oh the Cubs will definantly take the lead in a couple innings" [expletive] that really bugs me. Like you've not seen this offense go completely asleep This is so bizarre.

It really is bizarre. His favorite thing is pointing out when people were wrong about the Cubs not being bad. It's depressing. Someone around here has to be a realist when we are sucking. Why?

I remember Motte being used when he had his stretch of being effective and then pretty quickly being relegated to mop-up duty and being the most enthusiastic stomper/clapper for Castro's walk-up music.

The only thing I can think of is that the guy had already burned pretty much everyone because it was extra innings and didn't have any options. Or he was just a shitty manager. -
