Yes, if Jake Arrieta had given us a crafted treatise responding to the people that actually said such a thing, fine, but instead going with "DUR-HUR, GIT OUT, HOLLYWOOD" the morning after a stunningly divisive election just makes him sound like a dumbass. Who gives a horsefeathers if someone said they might leave the country? People are touchy about the connotations of the whole "horsefeathers HOLLYWOOD" meme the Right has trafficked in for so long because we just elected a president whose campaign trafficked very much in thinly veiled anti-Semitic rhetoric that got some long-standing biases REALLY riled and being vocalized. Do I think Arrieta is someone like that? No. Do I think it's a lazy, tone deaf thing to say, and with things being how they are right now some people are going to be disappointed in him and worry he's maybe a Schilling-in-the-making? Yeah, that makes sense.

It's not surprising when any athlete turns out to be a conservative, but I think with Jake it was things like his fitness and diet routine and his beard and just generally seeming like a kinda cool dude that makes it sort of easy to think he maybe bucks the trend.

Because, like, half a dozen people said something along those lines, yet he falls back on the lazy "horsefeathers you, liberal Hollywood" bogeyman. I'm not saying he's explicitly doing what was described, but it's usually the type of ranting that shows someone to be a real dimwit. I mean, it's completely self-defeating; typically it's someone who thinks "ugh, why can't celebrities shut about politics," nevermind that his forum and his statement makes him the thing he's complaining about.

Most athletes are dumb people. I would imagine at least half of the Cubs team voted for horsefeathering Trump Yup. I'd be stunned if most either voted for Trump or didn't vote at all.

Yeah, I agree. I don't see him being the candidate if he ever got in politics. He seems more like the guy who would run the campaign. Exactly. Watching The War Room again the other day and Stephanopoulos really came across in a similar way to Theo/Jed.

Just on a purely superficial level, he seems like a pretty bad public speaker. Obviously that's something you can coach up to a degree, but it would really have to be worked on if he was going to run for anything.

Holy horsefeathering horsefeathers. I don't think I quite appreciated that 1 of his 2 alternatives to soda was apple juice. So great. And so is this moment where I'm still convinced he had a minor stroke after eating all of that food:

Alright, this thread has completely sucked me back in. That monster was eating a meal that consisted of an entire pizza, breadsticks and nacho cheese (which he was denied, but wanted and expected) and a horsefeathering 2 liter bottle of soda. His logic behind getting the breadsticks and soda was that it was just $5 to add them on. AT PIZZA HUT. Holy horsefeathering horsefeathers.
