  1. Yeeeeesh. What a ridiculous game/inning.
  2. He's gonna just have to keep shoveling fastballs down the middle and hope for the best against KABOOM.
  3. Please get him out of there. It's kinda baffling how anyone in the bullpen would have been, like, "yup, he looks good to go."
  4. And likely 2 starting Monday’s series with the Brewers, in that scenario. Every post you make is somehow coyly hinting at the weather without ever talking about the weather. It’s quite amazing really He's right this time; it's not less than a 75% chance of rain until 5 PM tomorrow, and even then it's 50% until 9. They do kinda need to take this one somehow.
  5. I'm a half hour away from the stadium, and it is an absolute deluge out here right now.
  6. Like I said before, we don't have many relaxing games. There will be more nervous moments to come in this one. We really don’t. Even the ones where we have big leads we usually allow the teams to come back enough to where we have to have our good relievers come in and save us Yeah, it must be confirmation bias, but it feels like so many games they'll have 1 inning where they score, like, 3-5 runs, but then that's it. And then even if the starter for the Cubs does well and goes 6 and only gives up 2-3, Joe's bullpen woes are amplified because he has to burn through relievers in what should be a relatively easy win. I always come back to how it really seems as simplistic as being because their slugging is so relatively slow this season. If they had hit just, say, 25 more dongs (really not unreasonable given their roster; that would still only have them 11th in HR), it would have made a decent difference.
  7. Also: Bote is the new Daryle Ward.
  8. They really can't afford anyone else getting hurt at this point. It's a struggle to put out a lineup that isn't half garbage each day.
  9. I don't think confidence is going to do much if it's because he has the shoulders of a horsefeathering mummy these days.
  10. I'm putting this here just because... https://www.instagram.com/p/BnJkwWQFw--/?taken-by=pftompkins
  11. I really need someone to give me one of those, "the Cubs only have to play like this, and the Brewers would have to play like THIS," updates right now, because I have some creeping dread about the next series. If the Cubs win tonight and go 10-10 after...Brewers would need to go 14-5 to win the division outright. Oh yeah, that's the stuff. That's exactly what I wanted.
  12. This might be a hot take.............but I actually don't think it was a tough play at all. He just whiffed. He should have caught that. Definitely. Almora is just straight bumming it all around. He's a backup at best, and maybe not even that.
  13. Really not worried about Hamels walking Harper when there's a parade of bums after him.
  14. I really need someone to give me one of those, "the Cubs only have to play like this, and the Brewers would have to play like THIS," updates right now, because I have some creeping dread about the next series.
  15. Damn, the Brewers almost blew it against the Giants.
  16. I guess he's gotta break up the black holes somehow.
  17. Go horsefeathers yourself, Joe.
  18. Seriously, did their plan to fix Chatwood involve hitting him in the arm with a bat or something?
  19. Exactly; on paper, this lineup should be one that's mostly in good shape to be competitive, yet because so many guys who are playing like turds or are hurt are racking up, it's essentially a forfeit lineup, which is insane.
  20. I still think Murphy, Baez, Rizzo, Bryant, Zobrist and Schwarber makes the offense potent enough, with any help from guys like Happ sprinkled in. I think. Murphy and Schwarber are platoon players and Zobrist gets sidelined by Oldmanitis every 3rd game or so. The parts are all there and then some, but it's crossing over into worst case scenario territory in terms of the sheer number of guys who are either hurt or terrible or both.
  21. Bryant, Contreras and Russell all looking useless at the plate with no sign of turning it around is....not ideal at this point. They can't jury-rig a broken starting rotation AND batting lineup; Almora's gone down in flames, Bote is back to being a nobody, Caratini is beyond bad, Happ is streaky at best, and Heyward is either shitty again or injured, take your pick. There's nobody left to offset this kinda horsefeathers like they were able to do earlier in the season.
