I mean, you kinda can. Sure, it's not like this outcome for Schwarber wasn't something people were calling, but it's still disappointing relative to what plenty of sensible people were predicting/hoping for out of him. Plus when you bundle it up with how you have a bunch of guys doing varying degrees of worse and Freakshow Baez as the only person who jumped forward, it's a tad worrisome for a team hinged on so many players who weren't supposed to be hitting walls like this so soon/so dramatically (Kyle's "hitters suck as soon as they leave the womb" school of thought aside). -
Pretty much. And given that I think the playoffs version of the 2018 Cubs is going to be a desiccated plague corpse, I'd ESPECIALLY prefer them to get rolled by literally anyone besides the Brewers or the Cardinals.

Isn’t it adjusted for position? There’s only like 4 qualified catchers and he has the highest OBP of any of them and like 2nd highest BA. I have no idea, but I guess that makes sense. Man, 17 seconds nailed it: catchers stink.

Like, FG is going to have him end up being almost the same value fWAR-wise as last year, even though they have his defensive value ending up almost exactly the same, while his offensive value has completely cratered compared to last season. How the horsefeathers does that work?

The only thing that annoys me about the Brewers' moves is that they snagged Yelich. I really, really, really wanted the Cubs to end up with him once he was obviously available, and there was no reason to not go all out on him, even with the Harper plan.

Yeah, it's more of a collection of a LOT of things going wrong in the short run than, IMO, things looking bleak for the long run. Sure, guys like Happ and (especially) Almora might just suck as everyday player options, but a lot of things had to horsefeathers up for it to get to the point of needing them to play this much. Sign Harper next year and relegate one or both of them to platoon and/or backup roles and things are likely fine (barring a bunch of injuries again). This all looks more like an unfortunate cascading effect of a bunch of things going wrong at the same time as opposed to, "oh horsefeathers; the team actually sucks."

Man, I hope so. Less than 2 weeks ago they had a 5 game lead, so a lot can swing in that time. Hopefully at least a couple of these guys bust out of their slumps.
