Because hes not that good? among regulars he led the team in both average and obp last year. if that's "not that good" then what are the rest of the players? better convincing argument. theriot is good in his own ways, and obviously has deficiencies as well. but to say that the guy who got on base more than every other player on the team last year "isn't that good" is just stupid. These are all things that are extension of his play in the minors, so what are the odds he's suddenly going to shake any one of them from this point on? The guy has his use on the team, but the Cubs have several players who are either obviously or argubaly much more productive in the 1-2 spots than Theriot.

Guys are able to sustain inflated careers and contracts on far less. this is stupid. baseball is a sport of longevity. if a guy says that he played pro ball for a year and a half, you would say that he was a pro baseball player for a very brief period? would you not? same thing. It's not the same thing, because we don't know yet if his career is done. And you're right about it being asport of longevity...hence why having sustained and noticeable success for a full season and the second half of the season before that IS impressive. That's not a brief period of time.

Probably because what you're ranting about isn't happening. There's an obvious difference between pointing out that the guy did have sustained success and wasn't a total failure his entire time as a Cub, as some seem to want to show, and declaring that he's "the greatest Cub ever."
