  1. And if they get swept out again, it'll still be rather anticlimactic and ultimately, meaningless. I'd still take that over 5-10 year droughts between playoff appearances. If they can keep getting to the playoffs with a high level of frequency, sooner or later they are bound to get hot at the right time. At least that is how I look at it. Exactly. I'll take regular or semi-regular playoff heartbreaks like we've had 3 times in the last 5 years (and just barely missed a 4th) than the huge droughts that Cubs had since their last WS appearance. Hell, 5-10 years would have been nice compared to some of the gaps. The more often they go, sure, the more often we could see collapses...but it also drastically increases the odds of them breaking through and winning it all. "Meaningless" implies there's little to no difference between a Cubs team that wins 97 games or 57 games. If the playoffs are all that matters, why even watch or follow baseball before September?
  2. What good? Do his HR's not count if they're hit with nobody on base?
  3. wrigley23 is every cliche of "angry typing guy" rolled up into a single adorable package. Now he can't be bothered to counter points against his arguments because he "has a life."
  4. i think the games won that should have been loss is about even with the games lost that should have been won. this is one weird team. they only won because they suddenly started running the ball in the 4th. this is one of the worst passing teams (in terms of personnel AND scheme) i've ever seen Wonder if any of the coaches noticed that when they stopped only running Forte up the middle things happened. Naaaaaaaaaah.
  5. Disgusting. But awesome.
  6. It's like having pity on the "special" kid, I guess.
  7. Only 4 days until the Blackhawks win 8 in a row. The who do what now?
  8. Bears should draft Tebow. Noooooo.
  9. Why are the boos only saved for Rex?
  10. Don't confuse dexter with what actually happened.
  11. Not many receivers in the NFL catch that in subzero wind chills. he plays in chicago. And that was a terrible throw.
  12. That was a [expletive] throw.
  13. Did Orton think Hester was actually about 20 yards downfield from where he actually was? Jesus.
  14. I've never liked him as a player. Hate is too strong. It's unfortunate that Hendry left the OF so weak that he was practically forced to go out and get Soriano, who is about the opposite of the ideal star. I didn't say that nobody here hates him or dislikes him as a player...I just take issue with the idea that "most people here" hate him as a player. You're not going to find anyone that isn't going to readily admit that he has his obvious flaws, but most criticisms beyond the obvious ones stem from the length and cost of his contract. I could never say that nobody hated him here so long as wrigley23 still posted.
  15. Most people here hate Soriano? That's an interesting declaration. I know a lot really don't like his CONTRACT. There's a difference.
  16. This is baseball...anything is possible, especially for a team in a divison that competetive.
  17. Holy crap, that's an awesome avatar. The pride of the Cubs' nation.
  18. At the very least, Furcal has some power. Theriot has anti-power.
  19. Any play him where? Rover? Take your pick between him and Sori as to which will play LF and RF. I'd happily take the sexy offensive production that would far outweigh any defensive issues.
  20. It's like they cancelled Christmas, if Christmas wasn't a dirty lie that never existed in the first place.
  21. Heavy and sweaty? Sounds like Hendry is doing what one must do to seal the deal, even if it means never again looking the mirror and not shedding a tear of shame.
  22. The Twins? Hmm.. I'm not surprised that more teams are interested in getting involved with DeRosa now sounding available.
