    Too much junk. He's going to see much fewer "good pitches" hitting in front of the pitcher. If you want him to have a good eye for better pitches you should want him hitting in a spot where he's going to see more of those types of pitches. I don't think either are actually very stressful roles when compared to other hitting spots, which is why I put quotes around "pressure." I think the incentive to get something done because the pitcher on deck is potentially far more "damaging" (again, lack of a better word at the moment) to a young hitter when they're just going to be facing mostly garbage pitching is worse than if they're leading off and facing better pitches to hit, which plays to Castro's strengths as a hitter.

    Why? Because in a non-Lou NL lineup that's typically where you dump someone who is not a terribly good or consistent hitter because the pitcher is coming up after them. It basically gives the opposing team all the incentive in the world the pitch around a good hitter in that spot in certain situations. He's probably just going to see too much garbage pitching if he's kept in the 8th spot and I'd rather he be challenged higher up in the lineup. There's also the added "pressure" of having to make something happen because the pitcher is up next. Ironically, having Castro up is about the only time you could sorta justify Lou's insistence of hitting Soto 8th if Castro is hitting 7th...but not really. Having those two that low in the lineup is just dumb.

    I also wasn't talking about fighting. Let's just cut to the crap and get to the hardcore [expletive] the both the teams and their fan bases have been dancing around for so long now.

    Personally, I think the 8th spot in the lineup is perhaps the worst place you can put Castro.

    It wouldn't be tough to trade them for a reliever if the Cubs are eating all costs. Well, that's why I'd only be impressed if he did it without having to do that.

    Hell, I'd be impressed if he even traded them together for a decent reliever. They're tough sells given what they're making.

    What's wrong with Castro leading off against lefties? In his limited time up he's posting significantly better OBP against LH pitchers. LH starters: .316 .480 .474 .954 (6 games) RH starters: .366 .366 .512 .878 (10 games)

    You just don't understand that those teams are boring because they've played in the Finals four times in the past 29 years, or once in the past 22 years. TOO SOON.

    Other than these guys, the rest of the bullpen is Stevens, Russell, and whoever takes over Zs spot, and while I have nothing against any of them, as long as the guy in charge of the bullpen uses it poorly, it will continue to be a mess, and unfortunately, the guy in charge chooses to continue to put Grabow in big spots. Right, but that doesn't actually make the bullpen bad. It just means the manager keeps insisting on using someone at times he shouldn't. Stevens and Russel are pretty good options to have and they definitely have the players in the system to be much better options than Z was and Howry is.

    Do we still have to trot out the "the rest of the bullpen is such a mess" schtick? Yes, we know: Howry sucks and Grabow has tanked it so far this year. I don't understand why that still somehow translates to everyone else in the bullpen who isn't Marshall or Marmol being terrible and useless. Just because Lou is bullpen reeeeetarded doesn't mean that the bullpen as a whole actually sucks.

    Considering that Baker has a career .896 OPS against lefties, yes. Yeah, Fontenot/Baker is definitely a preferable alternative.

    His numbers are still pretty damn impressive for a guy who pitches in a joke of a band box like they have in Houston. His WHIP and k to BB ratio have remained right around his career level for the last 3 years, so this is clearly a guy who can still deal. I don't think the Cubs need to go out and get him, but if he could be had for the right deal it would be a good move. Having too many starters is a good position to be in. Ideally the Cubs could move Lilly and Silva at some point this season to help recoup what it would take to get Oswalt.

    Stop pretending like ERA doesn't matter. If we're examining four seasons of stats, it's a valid way of arguing a pitcher's decline. At least I didn't mention Ws and Ls. There's a difference between recognizing what it can show and tossing it out there like his increasing ERA is indicative of a steady decline since 2006, which clearly isn't the case when one doesn't limit that conclusion to being based on his ERA.

    Some people are incredibly stubborn and are very prideful. Aramis may be one of those people. Sure, there's that, but that would also basically require him to be an idiot and completely ignore how he's killing his opportunity to opt out and get a much better contract.

    Based on their numbers so far this season he's already much worse than Grabow.

    Fair enough, though it does beg the question of why the Cubs would either ignore him being injured in some form and expect him to play through it and/or why Aramis would do such a thing or attempt to "hide" an ongoing injury issue when it's so clearly impacting his play.

    I can't wait to see the Lakers vs. the Celtics. Both teams are kicking ass right now, and I'd sure as hell rather see that than the alternatives.
