  1. He's not getting any younger. He'll be 24 when this season ends. No matter how much you want to downplay it, it makes no sense to do this just as he's dominating as a starter. You can justify it all day and you can probably make a good enough case that it's "no big deal" or that it isn't that bad. But there is definitely no defending it as a good move. It's completely illogical and completely desperate. At best, they're delaying his development to fill a hole on a team that isn't going anywhere in an attempt to save their jobs. Or, better stated, the chances that this team is going anywhere, combined with the chances that this move is the quick fix they're going to hope it is, aren't nearly worth delaying his development. Depends on how much he's used out of the bullpen. If he ends up doing little besides sitting on the bench, yes, bad move. If he's used regularly, not necessarily.
  2. 2007 and 2008 were 2 of our better years despite Howry's awfulness (mostly in 08) Wait, are you serious? You think Howry was "awful?" in 2007? How the [expletive] are you coming to that conclusion?
  3. How is this irreparably "screwing with" his development as a starter?
  4. People have been vastly overstating how bad this move actually is.
  5. 32 isn't as old as you think it is. Yes, it should factor into the equation, and if he was actually exhibiting some kind of significant decline it should weigh in more on any type of decision, but as it stands this is a 32-year-old showing little decline with only one more year left on his contract. He'd be a fantastic pickup for a decent team looking to bolster their starting rotation into something playoff-worthy. He's obviously not Strasburg-worthy like some insane ex-GM's have suggested, but he'd be a fantastic pickup for a team like the Nationals, and would be also be a good move for the Cubs so long as they didn't give up someone like Castro.
  6. So you're saying that his ERA tells more about who he is as a pitcher now than what dexter just posted? Or that it has equal weight? Even if ERA is not dismissed, the weight of the evidence is pointing away from your conclusion. Besides, the HR issue is potentially inflated by pitching in Houston. Look at 2008, when he gave the most HR he ever has in a season: 23. He had 16 games at home and 16 on the road. 16 of those HR came in Houston; the other 7 on the road. 2009: 13 games at home and 17 away and 19 HR. 10 of those were at home and 9 were on the road. The HR increase you keep pointing to seems to indicate he's had a bit more trouble not giving HR in a park that is notorious for giving up HR.
  7. No. I love playing soccer, but watching it is the most tedious thing in the world.* *Exceptions can be made on a case by case basis if I end up at a bar or party or some type of gathering where everyone is going ape [expletive] over one of the teams. That's [expletive] fun as hell.
  8. Lucky to get any better if he keeps being penciled in as the #8 hitter.
  9. Way to jinx it! I FEAR NO JINX. Wow, I had no idea Dempster had such horrible tattoos. And were those completely uneven sized arms or was the camera angle just funky? Yeah, I really just want Dempster to never appear with those guns unleashed ever again.
  10. Way to jinx it! I FEAR NO JINX. Wow, I had no idea Dempster had such horrible tattoos.
  11. And no, it's not to 312Sports.com.
  12. Why is there such a decline in interest here, but not other sites? Where did everyone go?I doubt people who are still on here would know that. Exactly.
  13. Realistic shot for the Cubs to get the sweep if Lee keeps hitting and with Gorz and Lilly going back to back. The Dodgers have been hot, but they're one of the worst teams against LH starters.
  14. Hopefully nobody since this was his May 2009 line: .313 .403 .552 .955 Yes, he sucked at the start of 2009, but he was already beating up the ball by this time last year. He also showed consistent improvement from month to month last year whereas going into tonight Lee's May was actually been WORSE than his April. I think he'll hit better, but he's really not looking much like he did last year. That said, May has been his weakest month by far over his career (.249 .321 .420 .741), so he's essentially due to pick it up from here on out.
  15. Marmol is beast. That was a fun win.
  16. Yep, wasn't it against the Dodgers that Lee broke his wrist on a similar play? That was when Lee was trying to field a ball shuttled to him from Eyre and Furcal just barreled right into Lee. FUKULEAP!
  17. Yeah. Len was talking about that was going to be finally snapped tonight right as Castro got on base due to the error.
  18. Huh. Soriano seems to have gained some clout with the Wrigley meatheads. Absolutely horrible night for him at the plate and yet no boos. PROGRESS.
  19. 2-run oppo field HR for those not following the game somewhere else.
