  1. Marshall's thrown 3 innings in the last 2 days. Ah, ok didn't know that. Why not use Z? I wanted Z against Utley, but once he was on it was smarter to leave Grabow in to face Howard. Lefties are Howard's kryptonite and he was 0 for 5 against Grabow with 3 k's.

  3. [expletive] it. Might as well leave him in there against Howard. Pray for the double play.
  4. Miracle. It was still a terrible idea, since these are Victorino's numbers against lefties this year: .370 .408 .652 1.060 Vs. Polanco makes more sense: .275 .333 .350 .683 And yet he doubles. What the [expletive]. GET HIM OUT OF THERE. UTLEY SUCKS AGAINST ZAMBRANO.
  5. Hey, Hill is what he is: a backup catcher. Can't really fault the guy for Lou's decisions to play him too often.
  6. So Lou puts in Hill and Colvin in a late, close game with the Phillies instead of Soto and Fukudome? GUH?!?
  7. Touche, Grabow. Lou better not [expletive] leave him in this game next inning.
  8. That play by Gorz after taking the hit was maximum ballin'. Great, Grabow AND Hill put in. Grabow sucks as is, but the Phillies as a team are better against lefties in general. Just get this one out, jerkface.
  9. This lineup is terrifying. Except for Howard (against lefties).
  10. Lee's was robbed of a double pretty much the exact same way last night.
  11. Yeah, I really don't see it as the end of the world. Howry hasn't been very good at all this year, but he actually put together a decent season with the Giants last year that was reasonably comparable to his first two years with the Cubs. If he continues to stink I doubt you see him much with the Cubs.
  12. I understand the salary relief issue, but I can't see Ricketts spending all that money on the Cubs and then go into a rebuilding mode for 3-4 years, especially with the Black Hawks going for the Stanley Cup, the Bulls rumored to be after LeBron, and the new offensive-minded Martz coaching the Bears. I don't know for sure that I'd do either of those moves (I'd have to look more closely at Quentin), but trading Z for salary relief doesn't mean we're going into a 3-4 year rebuilding mode. Actually, getting relief from Z, Lee and Lilly's salaries might actually help us contend within the next 2 years since we'd be able to go after some high-salary players (somebody like Fielder). Yeah, moving or letting go the guys I listed by no means means that the Cubs would have to spend 3-4 years rebuilding.
  13. And you're basing this on...what, exactly?
  14. Am I missing something? Wouldn't this just be a minor league deal?
  15. Hopefully the Cubs can knock Moyer out in the 6th.
  16. Eh, I actually wouldn't mind seeing the Cubs doing either move. Getting rid of Zambrano's deal and then letting Lilly and Lee walk after this season would be huge. I don't think it would be too difficult to move Fukudome for the last year of his deal, too. That would put the Cubs in much better shape financially.
  17. So your response to a discussion about a baseball manager...is to bring up a basketball manager?
  18. Not necessarily. A healthy Nady is usually going to be a better option.
  19. More of a potential upside with Nady. With Dye you know he can't hit righties at all at this point. Nady potentially gives you someone off the bench who isn't as limited offensively. I suppose. But if we were looking to acquire a right-handed PH (which is all Nady is at this point) then we should have just brought someone up off the farm. The key is "at this point." There's still a very good chance that Nady ends up being a very valuable asset off the bench in the near future.

  21. OK, what? At first I figured he wanted Baker in there for his numbers against the Phillies: .462 .483 .538 1.021 in 29 PA. But his numbers actually at Citizens Bank are horrible: .111 .100 .222 .322 in 10 PA. Whereas at CB Nady has hit: .280 .280 .480 .760 in 25 PA. And he also has good career numbers against lefties. I don't get it.
