  1. I dont know...4th smallest market in baseball and even if the Cardinals payroll was at 120 million, he'd make up 25% of their payroll. I realize that they operate and produce revenues that a mid-market club would, but thats only 15 million less than what the Cubs are spending this year. I personally think they would have a hard time fielding a competitive team with a $30 million player on the payroll. There's a big gap between $30 million and $21 million. Just that they'd be that far apart from what the greatest hitter of all time is asking for, a guy who came up in their own system, is laughable. I mean, he's already getting $16 million this year, so it's not like they have to look at $27-30 million like it's coming out of nowhere. It would push their projected 2011 payroll of about $95 million to $109 million. OK, so he makes up a huge chunk of their payroll...HE'S ALBERT [expletive] PUJOLS. He's going to, and should, make up a giant chunk of any team's payroll. I can't tell if it's cheapness or stupidity (like the Loshe contract), but it's sure amazing to watch. Aren't they usually in the top 10 of baseball revenues each year and making around $200 million?
  2. It still blows my mind that they're this [expletive] cheap. Yeah, fine, the stadium and village costs, but come on...there are teams that would kill to have the Cardinals' revenue stream and they're acting like they're barely able to spend more than the Royals. Yeah, I know the payroll jumped up between 2009 and 2010, but come on, this is embarrassing.
  3. Definitely. Toss on a player option for a 7th and a club option for an 8th, too.
  4. Yeah, what the hell happened? For a while there there was one of those domain name squatter pages up saying that the ownership for this address had lapsed, and there's still a bunch of people who are getting error messages when they try to to come to the board or the front page.
  5. Whaaaaaaat? THAT'S what they're offering him when he and his agent are dropping numbers like $30 million per?
  6. Oh, the irony.
  7. As LaRussa said, they'll use it as a precedent to decide future salary demands. They have a vested interest in making sure that the best player in the world gets paid like it, basically This contract shouldn't determine anything with future contracts, because there isn't a single player in baseball on Pujols' level. No one can use what he gets as a bargaining chip because no one is better than he is. The Werth contract? Sure, no question. Pujols? Really? No, but it can be used as a bargaining chip by teams towards lesser players if he takes a significant hometown discount.
  8. Man, I'm going to be so annoyed if he pulls an Aramis.
  9. Probably re-tarded, which is inexplicably blocked. So is dumb-ass (as one word). But not ass. Go figure.
  10. Yeah, because you see pitchers saying they want to come out all of the time unless they're actually unable to pitch. One of the few actual meaningful things a manager and their staff can do is gauge when a pitcher can go or needs to come out because unless they're physically unable to do so they're going to say they can go.
  11. Well, I can't really fault people for complaining over the Holliday contract. I remember at the time plenty of people were questioning it given that Pujols was going to have to be re-signed in the very near future. I mentioned it before, but I don't understand why the Cardinals are even in this money crunch in the first place. They're a very popular team with a very large fanbase. They sell a ton of tickets and merchandise. Is it that they CAN'T go over a $100 million payroll or that they WON'T? Is it because of the cost of the stadium and the whole "ballpark village" debacle?
  12. Still not seeing how that disproves Harang's idea that that one game caused serious damage.
  13. I don't understand how this post disproves Harang's idea that that game basically pushed his body over the edge.
  14. It's not ideal, but I think it's worth it even if it just nets you 5-6 years of truly great production from one of, if not THE, best hitter ever to play the game. Comparing this to the Cubs given "a lot of years to players" doesn't really work because they've never had an opportunity to do so. Besides, when have they really shelled out way too many years recently besides the Soriano contract?
  15. I highly doubt he'd still be getting away with hiding his true age after the sweeps that were done in the wake of 9/11.
  16. Marmol's got Neifi Perez-butt bad.
  17. Seeing as you've had a bunch of people in here talking about how they'd have little problem seeing the Cubs give him 10/$300 million, I have no idea why you think those figures are that much different.
  18. Yeah, I'm now more inclined to think they get something done a la what Griffey signed with the Reds.
  19. Maybe he ate Colvin's leg.
  20. Oh wow, really? See I'm just rooting for him to not be a Cardinal. The idea of him being a Cub seems so ridiculous that I just can't even let myself entertain the notion. Given that he's already won a WS I'm letting myself think sky's the limit with him if he actually goes to FA so long as he gets paid what he wants.
