  1. Hey, come on, he had that one year where he was really, really good and then three years where he was worth about $6 million total. That's definitely the kind of guy you want to lock up for several years AND a good chunk of change!
  2. 2013 Cubs team slogan. My reaction far, far too many times when Castro has a PA:
  3. To who? What would they possibly threaten? Little purpose is served by benching him or sending him down, and they're not going to trade him when his value has been lowered like this.
  4. Hahahahahahahahaahaaaaah!
  5. This might shed some light. So is that all the bullpen's fault, or is the offense falling off after the 6th as well? Bruce's statement is exactly what I pointed out many pages back and was laughed at. They're still not as bad as their record, but they're close. You were laughed at for pointing out that the bullpen sucks? Somehow I doubt that.
  6. Ohhhhhh, WSR, you never let us down.
  7. Too bad Pop is 5 years past his prime Really? The Spurs are probably more past their prime than anytime in the past 5 years, and they're up 1-0 in the finals. JOKES 'N' JOKES 'N' JOKES 'N' JOKES SPAGHETTI SPAGHETTI SPAGHETTI
  8. It'll be a thin market then, too. And I'm sorry, but you think the Cubs need to "send feelers out" about this? What the hell do you think they've been doing? They basically drafted the guy just so they could trade him if he was able to do well.
  9. Yeah, if there's one way to assure you get the most bang for your buck is rushing to complete the first major starting pitcher trade before the deadline just...because, I guess. Sweet logic, bro.
  10. Holy hell, what a douche.
  11. I feel like Admiral Ackbar settling wearily back in his chair while everyone else cheers around him.
  12. I really, really, REALLY hate the "only the Cobs"-style of thinking, but this season, both on and off the field, has been insanely taxing along those lines.
  13. I'm just hoping that what we're seeing is a byproduct of him working on things, specifically his approach. Progress isn't linear and all that. Like I said before, that's what I keep telling myself. It kinda needs to be true.
  14. My point is I don't care what OUR reaction was; my let down is that it was yet another guy that our FO wanted and, quite frankly, it turns out the team really, really, really needs, and they didn't get him. If it makes you feel better that everyone hated the signing at the time, great. If it makes you feel better that they're not getting these guys and Concepcion sucks, great. I don't really have the masochistic drive to derive any satisfaction from that at all because the end result is the team still stinks and it prolongs "the plan."
  15. I'll take "Invented Arguments" for $1000, Alex. Jeez. Can you possibly get more pretentious. So much mental masturbation on this site. We're arguing sports for goodness sakes. Get over yourself. That's a pretty telling response; first you deflect to an argument nobody was making and then you spin to the strawman of you simply don't like the responses.
  16. Let's talk about Castro. Why does he suck? How much does he suck? More importantly, how can the people who understand baseball stats so much better than I do explain this to make me not want to steal Tree's forehead heroin needle?
  17. Alright, the end result sucks, but that was amazingly badass.
  18. Castro's...kinda not good at anything right now. That would have been insanely close, but come on.
  19. He was completely out of shape for his workout, had some off-field questions (was suspended in Cuba a few times) and few teams had any info on him because he didn't play much in international competitions so the signing was panned. He's since gotten into shape and shown a lot of athleticism and power. He's a good prospect who is a notch below Soler (probably a top 40 or 50 prospect). Sure, he was panned by the peanut gallery seemingly due to the eye test of his appearance and a general lack of information, but the teams that DID have info seemed to really want him, the Cubs included. It's a broken record, but they need to get more of these guys with the way things are looking.
  20. That was everyone's denial speaking at the time. That happens a lot lately.
