Rizzo has also been resoundingly unimpressive for a good stretch, too, and outside of an OBP spike in June has just gotten worse as the year has gone on. But he's walking at a decent clip, so I'm sure someone will tell me that makes everything else OK or something.
He's slugging .500 so far in the second half. July: .288 .403 .423 .826 August: .364 .545 .545 1.091 With 18 walks. Definitely trending in the right direction...
Is he the worst defensive catcher in baseball? He has to be in the bottom 5 BR has his dWAR at 2.3 this year, which means they just REALLY love his arm (and to be fair, that gif isn't indicative of where most of his defensive problems have been) or it just shows how bonkers defensive metrics are at this point.
Considering that the world has only been tracking pitch counts for the last 20 years or so..... who knows ??? Yeah, surely it was a valid question in a game where the pitcher has thrown 76 pitches through 7 innings and not just the spastic flailing of That Guy.
Masahiro Tanaka is a Japanese SP who wants to be posted this offseason. Raisin referenced him above with that WBC prospects list. I believe in another thread it was brought up that Badler sees him as a 2/3 starter. EDIT: To answer my own question: Tanaka Ellsbury Choo Abreu Cano Flip Ellsbury and Tanaka and Abreu and Choo and that's my list.
Could Rizzo play 3B? I know people [expletive] on Aramis ridiculously his whole time here, but if he could do it, couldn't Rizzo? Or is he even slower/less mobile? Oh, right, dur, the whole LH thing. Stupid question.
Anyone who undervalues Rizzo is a fool, but in no sane world does he have a real chance of becoming a once in a generation/lifetime/whatever hitter. Abreu does. Am I saying it's even likely? No, probably not, but I'd love to see the Cubs take the chance.
Why do you assume that? Most of this board are aware of the value that Rizzo brings defensively (even though defensive metrics are still the wild west of advanced stats). Nobody would be "casting him aside;" so far the options are either trying to keep him on the team or trading him as the extremely valuable asset that he is. How is that just dismissing him? That's either hoping to keep his bat in the lineup or to dramatically help the team in a killer trade.
