  1. I think he just likes playing in Japan. I mean, who wouldn't. Anyone who likes natural grass fields Look, the Japanese are just kinky like that.
  2. We have a better record against the Cardinals and Pirates than against the Brewers this year. If we had won two of the three games yesterday and today, we're 8 out of the wild card since the Reds can't seem to beat the Padres. Bullpen does it again. Strop yesterday (though that's partly Dale's fault since Strop probably shouldn't have been in the game), Russell in the first game today and Gregg in the second (again, not totally his fault with the missed strike 3 and Castro's error). And a speedy guy beating out a dribbler that barely made it passed the mound. The bullpen has fucked things up plenty of times this year, but yesterday was one of those frustrating games where things just didn't go right.
  3. It was obvious that Pujols was lying about his age long before I even knew what plantar fasciitis was. What a weird comment. Not really, since there's no actual evidence that he's not as old as he says he is. While it's never really all that surprising if a LA player is revealed to have done something like this, given that Pujols was already in the system and a new player when 9/11 happened and baseball faced a serious visa/immigration crackdown then (which is how a bunch of guys got caught within a relatively small time span) it's even more unlikely that he'd get away with this. Pretty much the only major exceptions with guys playing at that time were Soriano (because of his circuitous route through Japan) and Tejada. I think he may have escaped some of that scrutiny since he was well established in the US and went to high school and juco here. He's definitely not your everyday case and I'm pretty certain he lives in St. Louis year round. He's also been a US citizen since 2007, which I suppose would have probably caused some added attention to his birth date. Who knows? There was already uncertainty about his age even before he was drafted, and they were really looking to spot falsified visas and immigration documents right when he was a brand new player; between that and, like you said, that he then always went through the citizenship process makes it pretty unlikely that he would have gotten away with this. The crackdown on athlete visas post-9/11 was incredibly tough and a ton of eyes would have been on Pujols because of all of the suspicion on him from high school onward.
  4. Yeah, what "stretch of failure?" Two days? My issue with the offense is that they managed to go 3-2 while scoring a whopping 7 runs in those games. Then you had the single inning exception in the first game tonight, but then right back to only managing 2 runs in the final game. That's not setting you up to do well for a prolonged period of time unless you have an amazing bullpen.
  5. I can't say a guy looked good when he had more walks than strikeouts It's like how the Cubs looked "good" on the road trip with their terrible, terrible ability to score runs.
  6. If he wishes to please a god then there must be blood sacrifice.
  7. Boo these filthy animals as they settle back into the pit of being 10 under.
  8. Wait, they didn't charge Castro with an error? So what if he was diving? He easily had it in his glove.
  9. You do realize that scouts watch the games right? They don't simply discount a guy because they see a BS in the box score. Yes, and for the past several weeks he's been giving up bullets all over the park and getting saves in spite of it. But you said this was a make or break outing for him...
  10. You do know scouts for other teams actually watch the games, right?
  11. It was a fun mini-run, but struggling to score 1-2 runs is a recipe for sorrow more often than not. Losing the first game was basically punishment for living on the edge for so long.

  13. Rizzo kinda hilariously terrible at the whole cover-your-lips-with-your-glove-as-you-tell-secret-stuff-thing.
  14. It's like he's mocking us with every prolonged silence.
  15. Whut. Plus it took me three passes to even figure out what the [expletive] he was saying. You'd think someone who has a job where they broadcast things to people wouldn't be this horrible at talking.
  16. Well he's safely in the top 7 so that's pretty much semantics. it can't be semantics when we're talking about numbers. we know what numbers mean. it would be arguing over semantics if someone said sano was an elite prospect and someone else said he's only near-elite and then we had to hash out definitions for those terms. http://cdn.wl.uproxx.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/Big-Ern-Celebrating.gif
  17. Hey, the offense can come back any time they feel like it.
  18. While there is no ""proof"" that Pujols is older than his listed age, the fact that he looks much older than his listed age and has an aging curve that suggests he's much older makes complaints like yours look really stupid. Man, harsh words. You must be about to school us all with some serious knowledge... Oh. Hm. Well, maybe next time.
  19. He has been awful for years. And how much pitching do the Sox really have after they trade Peavy? Chris Sale.
  20. Oh, that's all?
