  1. No, they didn't. But I missed the 8th - 10th innings. The extremely bad Steve Lyons kept noting how empty Wrigley was in the first few innings, stating it wasn't this bad when he was playing and the Cubs were bad. I actually enjoy watching the Dodgers but Lyons nears unlistenable at times. Steiner sort of makes up for it though. He's not great either. I agree that Steiner is better. Too bad Vin Scully doesn't do too many road broadcasts these days. :( Only the west coast games. Vin Scully is so great to listen to it's unreal. He could make watching paint dry interesting.

  3. Alright, it looks like there's enough interest, I'll get one set up in the next day (probably tomorrow afternoon).
  4. I think by expected this is meant to be the Pythagorean record which is based on RS/RA, right?
  5. the topic title reminded me of a good song. HAPPY ANTERABAE DAY!!!!! Anyways. WOOO!!!! OH YEAH!
  6. The Royals are going to have a hell of an offense in a few years.
  7. I think I remember a lot of people -- including me -- that thought this wouldn't be a bad team because it had to be better than last year's team (upgrades at center, better OF than Holly/CPatt/Beer Nutz, etc).
  8. Not sure on the amount of hockey fans here, but if I were to do it, 10 would probably be the minimum.
  9. Manager? Probably Girardi if he becomes available. I did like that Fredi Gonzalez was at least mentioned. I bet we end up signing Trot Nixon to play OF somewhere (platoon with Murt?) and Loretta to play 2nd. Boras is not Lee's agent.
  10. First start in the big leagues in over a year. I would take a healthy Wade Miller over a guy like Angel Guzman. I think most people would take a healthy Wade Miller over most pitchers. Problem is that he'll probably never be healthy. You would think. But, some people on this site actually would take Brady Clark over Vernon Wells. That doesn't apply at all. And given the chance with how much Wells is going to cost talent-wise, I *might* take Clark. You don't just take the greatest player available if it costs as much as Wells is going to cost after a career year as he's not likely to sustain that production.

  12. Gotta love how we have the run but they have made Miller throw 14 more pitches than James.
  13. http://www.ohio.com/mld/beaconjournal/15480951.htm Ouch.
  14. I believe that Len knows a lot more about stats and the game and what constitutes a good player than he lets on over the course of a broadcast. And I think the Trib probably has something to do with that. i don't know why the trib would stifle kasper's use of sabermetrics during a broadcast, i really don't. if they do, just to listen in on that conversation between he and his producer would be baffling. In other interviews, Len shows more knowledge about the game than he does during Cubs games (like that interview with the Milwaukee guys a few weeks ago). I think he tones it down for games because the audience won't care to hear what he has to say. I don't think the trib stifles him, but he does it on his own.
  15. Thomas is still going to be moderately priced compared to other similar DHs. He's old and still isn't durable. He'll probably get like 6 or 7 mil next year if I had to guess. There will still be good incentives though.
  16. I have a problem with his discipline not improving (if it doesn't, it could, of course) and them working on his bunting. Feels very Corey-ish.
  17. 6 IP 2 R performance (something like 10 baserunnres) at a 51s/ICubs game earlier this year.
  18. title should say Pittsburgh. This is a key game in the Cubs race to win the fecal division.
  19. You know why Howard is the best POWER threat in baseball right now? Home: .294 .399 .624 1.023 (24 hrs and 65 rbis) Road: .308 .392 .656 1.047 (25 hrs and 64 rbis) I was going to argue that Howard has been help by playing in a HITTER'S ballpark, but then I look at his splits on the yr, and he's just as dangerous on the road. I will go out and say, that Ryan Howard SHOULD be the 2006 NL MVP. I know some writers will go for Pujols because of the "name", but ultimately, I think Howard is having a better season. Now I realize Pujols was on the road to a "career" yr this yr, before the injury, and it would have been fun to compare Howard to Pujols had he not gotten injuired, but you deal with the hand you are dealt with. So again, Howard should be the 2006 NL MVP. Nevermind what I said, I was thinking career HR record, which isn't even Bonds'. So yeah. But Pujols should still be the MVP, and IMO, it's not that close.
  20. Howard is older than Pujols (assuming Pujols lists his correct age, which he probably does), so I think Pujols still has a better chance of breaking the record. But Howard is a beast.
  21. Before the year I said Rich Harden, but unfortunately he's never healthy. No-Hitter: Carlos Zambrano Perfect Game: Francisco Liriano
