  1. i love the backlash at this. i bet if derrek lee did it everyone would be cheering him. arod is awesome.
  2. i'm a big fan of the "erase a huge deficit, get a multiple run lead, and promptly blow the game" loss. it's really a refined art that the cubs have developed.
  3. 7 IP, 4 H, 3 BB, 6 K, 1 ER
  4. marquis gets shelled, cubs win 11-10. bold predictions lol
  5. i don't want any part of girardi. it would have been nice to get fredi gonzalez...
  6. Wasn't Pagan brought in because a left-hander was on the mound when he was announced, and then Lou didn't want to simply waste him and pinch-hit for the pinch-hitter? then why not bring in Murton? Pagan has been pretty cold since the first game of the White Sox series. Murton has been better over the last week or so. Either way it's bad. Murton pinch-hit in the seventh. ah, i didn't catch that.

  8. I was making the point that people are making the judgement on Guzman that he will be an awful major leaguer based on his major league numbers, which pertain to only 29 games. actually, it's his limited major league numbers and his expansive mediocre minor league career. Well if you want to judge players based on "expansive mediocre minor league careers" look no further than Ryan Theriot. Why is he on the team? Because he proved himsefl, he was given the opportunity and excelled. Guzman hasn't been given the proper opportunity Theriot has a 686 OPS, average defense, and hasn't done much of anything in about 2 weeks. I don't think I want 2 Theriots on one team.
  9. i was a bit miffed at using Eyre when we're only down 3. It's pretty much a give-up move. Pagan in the 9th was worse though. He's one of "Lou's Horses".

  11. the difference between Gordon and Guzman is that Gordon has a good minor league career and great comparables. Lots of players that eventually became amazing struggled out of the gate. Gordon had a 1015 OPS in AA last year and is a polished college hitter. Guzman is a mediocre minor leaguer. They are not comparable.
  12. I want everyone on my team to have a good OBP, but it usually starts with the lead-off hitter because he's going to get the most chances to get on base. I don't want Soriano moved from the lead-off spot. this doesn't make any sense. you're taking a limited minor league sample size and comparing it to major league stats. Guzman can draw lots of walks in the minors. When he was given a shot (very, very limited sample size) in the majors, he drew 3 walks and had 76 ABs. Given his age, he looks like a AAAA player (DIE HARD!). Also, Soriano currently has a .352 OBP, so....right now. I think Theriot was sitting around 360 when he was leading off, as well. Seemed like you were clamoring for him to be on the team and leading off, but whatever. I guess it can't do any harm to have him in the system. That's a false dilemma. We don't have to have Jones or Guzman. I'd rather have Guzman as a 5th OF than Jones as a starter (currently), but I don't want Guzman any where near the everyday lineup. Most of the reason I'd want Guzman is because he costs less, it has nothing to do with talent (or lack thereof). I would rather trade Jones and hand the job over to Pie.
  13. Not really. 673 OPS against w/ Barrett behind the plate, 660 with Blanco. He actually pitched extremely well to Paul Bako. Maybe he just imagined that paul was in the batter's box instead of behind the plate.
  14. Gee, sorry I brought it up. If he sucks so much dong then why don't we send them a Crappy McCrapstein in return and see how it pans out? I'd also like to kno exactly how everyone seems to know just how bad he is when he's got only 83Ab in his major league career, did we track him in the minor system, did we watch his games, did we see him suck? Or are you just going off numbers? Cause the numbers I see are a lot better than some of the crap we send out there every day huh? his 722 career MiL OPS is tied with or trailing 5 OFs currently on the team. and those are minor league numbers.
  15. Wait, he took Hill out after just 66 pitches of shutout baseball? I'm still a fan of Sweet Lou, but what the hell? We had a man on 3rd and 2 outs. We had to pinch hit for Hill. Maybe if we were trailing and it were the 7th inning or later. Not in a tie game though. That's nuts. With 1 out, I'd consider PH'ing for him. Two outs, no way. That was a stupid move, especially seeing how he only threw 66 pitches. He was real efficient today. That's my issue with it. When was the last time the Cubs had a starting pitcher tossing a shutout with fewer than 70 pitches threw 6 innings? Why in the world would you waste a start like that? They just don't happen very often.
  16. Asking for two innings after Wuertz throws 12 pitches is too much to ask? He's pitched more than 1 inning 4 times this year. He pitched 2 full innings on back to back outings on April 15th and April 17th. He hasn't pitched 2 innings in one outing since then, but it's not like his arm can't handle it.
  17. Wait, he took Hill out after just 66 pitches of shutout baseball? I'm still a fan of Sweet Lou, but what the hell? We had a man on 3rd and 2 outs. We had to pinch hit for Hill. No you don't. You still have to prevent runs. Hill does that better than our bullpen by about two miles. Plus it preserves your good BP arms for later in the game.
  18. No, but you can throw more than one inning at a time. He was even out to start the inning, but Lou brought in Eyre after the LH PH had been announced. Lefties have a 1273 OPS against Eyre this year (before today), worse than his line against righties. I understand that Hendry made a mistake, that doesn't mean Lou needs to use Eyre at all. Especially when we still have a lead in a 1-0 ball game. That wasn't as bad, but it's still not a good move. And Howry has been nowhere close to alright lately. He's allowed 10 ER in his last 6.1 IP if my counting is right. Control issue is probably an understatement. Last year in 77 innings with the Cubs, he allowed 6.9 BB/9. He was brought in to walk the bases loaded so he absolutely could not make a mistake. Dempster was still available in the bullpen.
  19. my biggest issue with lou today was taking out Hill after 66 pitches. I don't care if Ward gives you a better shot at scoring, going to the bullpen early in a close game is a bad idea. didn't he see that it as an advantage that Wolf was out early? He made it a battle of the bullpens and then used the worst guys possible. It's like being in a shootout in hockey and sending out your fourth liners for your first three shots. Dumb. so if I had to create a list of dumb things from Lou today: 1) Taking out Hill early 2) Taking out Wuertz after 1 12-pitch inning 3) Bringing in Eyre in a close game when he's not the last guy out of the 25 guys on the roster available. 4) Bringing in Howry instead of Guzman (worked out fine in the end) 5) Taking out Guzman with a 1-0 count and bringing in a pitcher with control issues 6) Using Marmol out of the bullpen to throw an IBB after Guzman had already thrown one ball. not sure if he gave the bunt sign or the steal sign or not.
  20. You have to score to win. We haven't looked good offensively. It's a bad situation to be in, but I don't mind the move. you also have to prevent runs. hill is more likely to do that today than the bullpen. plus, if we don't score, and go to extras, the good pitchers in the pen can go for a while. at least guzman and marmol have been starters recently. Ugh. lou has no clue on managing a bullpen or even a starting staff. Terrible.
  21. Chad Cordero is mediocre? Please explain. has relied on a low BABIP in the past (not this year, it's a bit high), gives up lots of fly balls and too many home runs for the park he pitches in on most nights. has a high FIP/xFIP. i just don't like him for the long term at all, especially pitching most of his games in wrigley.
  22. so to get one mediocre reliever we send two of our best. one of them might be a decent starter one day. uh, no.
  23. he's historically much better at leading off. it's not just this year. It's his best spot in the order by 50 OPS points. i don't know why, but it's just the way his career has worked out.
