  1. 56) Anna Benson says she will sleep with all of the Cubs if they win the WS, thereby forcing them into winning.
  2. that would rid us of UCLA too!! Two for one! A nuke with a 5-mile radius in damage would be perfect. Would get rid of Staples too, hopefully Kobe is in there playing. Now now, that would get rid of the LA Kings, and I don't want that. However, if it were to include the Lakers' practice facility (assuming they don't practice at Staples) that would be fine by me.
  3. The Cubs have too many variables for success. 1) Lee is most likely going to decline, how much is an issue. 2) Ramirez and Wood's health, along with Prior avoiding freak injuries. 3) Prior having command and not throwing 100 pitches by the 5th inning 4) Bullpen consistency (though that goes for just about everyone) 5) Pierre bouncing back. 6) Murton and Cedeno being somewhat decent. 7) Second base... 8) Having a decent 5th starter) 9) Maddux having a decent season. I wouldn't mind a repeat of last year if the rest of the team is good 10) Dusty not screwing us over on a daily basis. 11) The Pirates wanting to trade with us
  4. They can trade Joe B at the trade deadline to a team that needs bullpen help and get even more young guys. Doubtful. Joe's not going to bring you back anybody of quality. And signing guys with the hope of trading them later makes no sense to me. If he pitches well, some team in the race will probably overpay for him. They might not get much, but they could get *something* for him.
  5. I'm sure Corey has his own aches and pains once in a while. I wonder if his knee still hurts?
  6. I think it was against Houston in '03 (I think). Dusty left him in to hit when we were down 3-1 (I think) and he hit a 2 run homer to tie it up. Alou hit a homer an inning later and we won :)
  7. Maybe he just doesn't like Dusty.
  8. It's fine now, was just slow at the start. Anyways, looks like a good site. I'll bookmark it.
  9. Is it just me or is it really slow?
  10. Pierre is roiding, definitely.
  11. I thought about doing this topic earlier. Then I decided not to. I also thought he was an infielder.
  12. He would be a good fit, no doubt, but I really don't think that's what Hendry is after. That's why he got Pierre.
  13. I doubt it. I really think he's looking for a middle of the lineup type guy, that's why he got Pierre. Maybe Huff, or Abreu, or Dunn. Ichiro doesn't really make sense at this point.
  14. I would be pissed off. There's too much talent and money on and with this team for it to go through a firesale and a rebuilding process.
  15. No. I'm not trading my superstar first baseman unless I get a superstar in return or at least 3 VERY good players. And even if you assume DLee's season was a bit of a fluke he is still a VERY good hitter and one of the top defensive first basemen in the league. It's not so much that I think it's a fluke, it's that his value is higher than it has ever been, and likely higher than it will ever be. I think he'll probably be a 290 hitter for the rest of his career. BUT, we have some holes, and it's one way to fill them.
  16. Judging by the way this is going, would you try and package Lee in a deal if it filled that many holes AND you got a servicable 1B in return?
  17. Cubs send Derrek Lee, Jerome Williams, and pitching prospect(s) to the Devil Rays for Julio Lugo, Aubrey Huff, and Jonny Gomes. Giving up too much? Too little? No way you're trading Lee? Just curious, not even a rumor, but I was talking about it with my dad last night, and he said there's just no way you trade Lee.
  18. he took a risk on Dye he took a chance on Iguchi was taking a chance on Contreras, Hernandez, Garcia. Garland had done all of nothing so far in his career Hermanson had done nothing Politte had done nothing Jenks was a risk Hernandez is the only one thta didn't work out, really. And even he came up huge in the playoffs. it's not that he found a diamond in the rough, it's that he inexplicably managed to turn a bunch of polluted water into fine wine.
  19. So all I have to do to be a good GM is get a team going with a bunch of injury prone guys or guys that have had good seasons 4 years ago and pray that they are successful? And he didn't take a ton of chances, really. He statistically worsened their offense. That's not "taking a chance", that's "being stupid". He wasn't banking on his entire pitching staff having a unanimous career year. If he was, then he has a time machine, because that's beyond dumb otherwise.
  20. Not really. He took a risk and it worked out. Hendry took a risk on Nomar and it failed. KW took A LOT of risks, and he got absurdly lucky to have all of his moves for pitching work out way more than anyone expected.
  21. I think they're going to trade Kotsay.
  22. He didn't win with any intelligence. He won with pitchers that pitched beyond great. I wouldn't have faith in him. What is he going to do next? Trade Konerko for Chone Figgins?
  23. He did trade Carlos Lee for Scott Podsednik...
  24. He could be ordered to platoon him at worst. And when neifi gets hurt (it has to happen, the dude's too small) Cedeno will take over and post large numbers.
