  1. Descenzo, I'm with you re: ND in 09 and Jimmy, but man...Jimmy did not play well today. Decent throws on the deep balls, but he wasn't getting rid of the ball under pressure, and when he did he tossed it to a Stanford linebacker. Kudos to the Irish defense for somehow not giving up any points on 4 turnovers. You know who is gonna be great? Robert Hughes. He's been studly of late.
  2. I'd just like to note that the three-letter chants (MIZ and ILL) are kind of dumb.
  3. Oh, and Ball State manages to come away scoreless on 3 redzone possessions but still beats NIU 27-21. Should've been a blowout, but now as long as CMU beats Miami in the MAC title game next week, we're guaranteed the International Bowl.
  4. Wow. Stanford-ND was one of the worst games I have ever watched in every possible facet. Pathetic offense: Turnovers in the red zone like crazy, terrible throws by Clausen and Tavita, Stanford missing all 4 of their FG attempts, the dropped passes soccer10k mentioned. Notre Dame took a Hail Mary INT 98 yards back for a TD at the end of the 1st half using a bunch of laterals, only a Trevor Laws personal foul committed before the play nullified all of it. Pathetic officiating: On two separate occasions ND and Stanford were flagged by offsetting personal fouls when there was no evidence ND players did anything wrong. A TD catch by David Grimes was reversed on replay even though the ball clearly did not even glance the ground. There were plenty of penalties on both teams that weren't called. On the aforementioned Hail Mary INT play, they gave ND an untimed down after the personal foul for no apparent reason. Pathetic broadcasting: For no reason, in the 3rd quarter the broadcasters talked about Jim Harbaugh being the principal owner of an IndyCar championship team and how that compared to Charlie's Super Bowl rings. Pathetic camerawork: So many replays were shown that went nowhere near the actual play in question that I almost got sick. Well, at least we won.
  5. Are you making the trip to DeKalb on Saturday for the football game? We were going to be there to broadcast the game, but NIU's incompetent SID apparently didn't even know we were coming or our incompetent sports director didn't tell them we were (pick a target). Anyway, long story short, we can't broadcast, so I will not be there. Luckily it is on Comcast Sportsnet so I can still watch. Are you going? Yeah, I'm back up here now so I'm going to go with some friends. It doesn't surprise me that NIU has an incompetent SID. They have a ton of things within that are incompetent. Well, have fun watching the next great MAC QB in person. :)
  6. Slugger is the answer. We might have a CF if the organization will give him a chance to play consistently.

  8. Georgetown 57, Ball State 48. The Cardinals had it as low as 6, with the ball, with 2 minutes left, without their best player, Anthony Newell, who fractured a bone in his foot yesterday in practice and will miss the rest of the out of conference schedule. The Cardinals gave everything they had. The healing process continues from the Ronny Thompson Era...for all that was written and said about the Thompsons' return to Muncie, it came down to simply being a great basketball game, with 4300-some fans cheering their butts off for a great group of guys.
  9. Some TV times have been updated.
  10. My roommate and I were discussing this yesterday, and not only can you make the case that the best 5 players in America are all freshmen, you could also fit them all into a semitraditional starting five if you wanted. PG Rose SG Gordon SF Mayo PF Beasley C Love I'd take that fivesome over a few NBA teams.
  11. 6'5" Anthony Newell, the tallest player on Ball State's team, goes down with a foot injury the day before 7'2" Roy Hibbert and Georgetown comes to play. I predict 55 points for Hibbert and Ball State losing by at least that margin.
  12. UCLA/MSU is a really fun game. Mbah a Moute with a huge 3 to give UCLA its 1st lead with 28.6 to play.
  13. I know, but Matt Holliday should've been clear enough.
  14. Curtis Granderson does everything (except play SS) better than Jimmy Rollins, and I didn't hear anyone jonesing for him in the AL. Higher AVG, higher OBP, higher SLG, more walks (despite over 100 fewer PA's), just as many doubles, more triples, 17 fewer runs (again, over 100 fewer PA's), etc. etc.
  15. Why? Because Weis acted like a classless child preseason with his recruiting sour grapes and allegations and now Illinois fan is reveling in ND's utter crapness? That's just karma, son. I'm pretty sure you're kidding, but stealing Arrelious Benn from us has very little to do with it, they just talk waaaay too much. For instance, this ludicrous Illinois/Florida debate. I understand their point that Florida strictly on paper isn't that much better than Illinois but they would destroy the Illini in a game, and everyone seems to think Juice, who has now had one good passing game this season, would shred the UF defense. No offense, but Notre Dame fans have always been the most intolerable (usually without any cause to be) in the entire realm of college sports. None should be allowed to critique the fans of other teams. Ever. You haven't been around enough Michigan fans. FWIW, my roommate, a Purdue fan who grew up in West Lafayette, always tells me that his family sold their lawn for tailgating road fans when the Boilers hosted games and he says that UM fans were pretty nice while OSU fans were truly prickish.

None should be allowed to critique the fans of other teams. Ever. I'd like to think of myself as a reasonable fan (there are plenty on here that would likely disagree), and I think any reasonable fan can critique other fans regardless of affiliation. I don't think anyone can dispute the point that ND fans are the worst (just because there are more of them than any other, thereby increasing the amount of idiots) but I'm pretty sure the question meant on NSBB.

I thought that was implicit. I don't know any other Illinois fans to compare them to, so of course that's all I am doing.

  19. Georgia Tech 70, Notre Dame 69. The only good thing I had going in sports is officially an NIT-caliber team.
  20. The obvious answer is Illinois.
  21. Eckstein is literally the only SS on the market worth anything. He'll get it. Hendry will probably give it to him. How about an Eckstein/Theriot middle-infield? I'd rather pay Theriot 350K than Eckstein 9M.
  22. I'm so beyond jacked for Georgetown coming to Ball State on Wednesday. Not sure what the student turnout will be since the dorms will be closed, but for the first 5 minutes (until the game's pretty much in hand, in other words) it'll be as intense as anything I've ever seen.
  23. Was it both? I heard it was just KU's AD moving this year's game for some extra ca$h. It's worth noting that I was going to go home Saturday night, but I don't want to miss this game. Therefore I am hanging around until Sunday afternoon. I'm excited to watch.
  24. Baylor 68, Notre Dame 64. I'm not even in the mood to discuss it. Georgia Tech tomorrow in the Paradise Jam consolation game.
  25. Sigh. We choked, plain and simple. You guys looked pretty good in the 2nd half. You definitely won't win 9 games again this season, in my estimation.
