  1. Easily. He never had me sold as a number 2 starter, but as a number 4 starter, I cant think of a better one since Steve Avery in the Braves glory days. At least I think Avery was the number 4. Maybe it was Smoltz, in which case he was a damn good #4 too. Clement/Z beg to differ... Do you mean one or the other, or both? Because Z has never been the 4th best starter in a rotation.
  2. Carlos Marmol is back with a vengeance.
  3. Claims to have been one since age 4.
  4. Gorgeous play by Aramis. Give him the Gold Glove.
  5. Who said Soto is a dead pull hitter? :D
  6. Why in holy hell did Theriot not get in front of that?
  7. Spurrier must not be in the poll this year, because his customary vote for Duke at No. 25 didn't happen.
  8. At the time I thought it was ridiculous that Chris Duncan, a 26 year old career minor leaguer, came up and started raking for the Cardinals. Since then they've had a pitcher start slugging the hell out of the ball and a 30 year old career minor leaguer come up and be even better than Duncan ever was, and suddenly I find myself wishing every Cardinal was as successful as Conjoined Fetus Left Fielder.
  9. It's below 1.000? That's new. I wonder if the Cardinals' fans know as little about the idiots who come up and rake for them from the minors as I do. I'm sure you're poking fun, but that doesn't mean I shouldn't be annoyed at all that the Cardinals are getting insane performances from their everyday outfielders because the Cubs are getting a pretty great performance from a backup middle infielder.
  10. Michigan shouldn't be ranked but I have no problem with them receiving votes. ND received one fewer vote than Mississippi State and four less than UConn, so I hardly think that's a big deal. I don't know much about the SEC, but I don't think there's any way that would make sense. Agreed. Agreed that they deserve it, disagree that it'll be ridiculed. Everyone around the country slurps the SEC at this point and Georgia not staying atop the poll would be viewed as the conference's strength and not Georgia's weakness - which with the Dawgs' schedule, it should be.
  11. Interesting theory as I've never noticed her dolled up as much as she was Wednesday either. What if she was dating a Cub covertly? That'd be pretty sweet.
  12. Surprised this wasn't mentioned - the coaches' poll came out today and Georgia was #1, though it was far from unanimous. Pretty surprised to see Michigan in there, very surprised to see West Virginia so high, and pretty surprised Kansas was left out of the top 10. The AP rankings are scheduled to come out on the 16th, and I'll post the Week 1 thread soon afterwards. 1. Georgia (22) 2. USC (14) 3. Ohio State (14) 4. Oklahoma (3) 5. Florida (5) 6. LSU (3) 7. Missouri 8. West Virginia 9. Clemson 10. Texas 11. Auburn 12. Wisconsin 13. Kansas 14. Texas Tech 15. Virginia Tech 16. Arizona State 17. Brigham Young 18. Tennessee 19. Illinois 20. Oregon 21. South Florida 22. Penn State 23. Wake Forest 24. Michigan 25. Fresno State Others Receiving Votes Alabama 83, South Carolina 64, Utah 60, Rutgers 53, Florida State 53, Boston College 47, California 41, Pittsburgh 34, Boise State 25, Oregon State 23, Nebraska 17, Cincinnati 13, Virginia 12, Connecticut 9, Michigan State 9, Mississippi State 6, Kentucky 5, Notre Dame 5, TCU 5, Maryland 4, Texas A&M 3, UCLA 3, North Carolina 3, Louisville 2, Georgia Tech 2, UCF 2, Tulsa 1, Oklahoma State 1, Arizona 1, Colorado 1
  13. Completely agree. I don't understand why people spend all the money on real jerseys either. What's worse is the people who bought all those 2007 Division Champs clothing. It was dated 20 seconds after the playoffs ended for the Cubs. I forgot to mention that I have an 07 division champs t-shirt, which I bought after the playoffs. Three losses to an anti-Pythagorean team doesn't take away my fond memories of the '07 season, hence the purchase.
  14. So awesome. Sigging this immediately. Thank you sir.
  15. Why are you frustrated? It should be clear by now that Ryan Ludwick is a very good baseball player. Oh yeah, he's a stud. Some comparable players according to baseball reference are Termell Sledge and Mike Diaz. Termell is only 31 this year, we should see if we can sign him. Let's check with his local 7-11 to see if he has the vacation built up to play. This is so wrong but so funny (and puts in perspective how ridiculous this Ludwick thing is).
  16. We just exposed the Brewers about as thoroughly as anyone has ever been exposed as not ready for the big time. This is my new favorite regular season series of all time. Following on Gameday was hell only as far as not getting to see the beating administered live. This is quite seriously about as happy as I've ever been to be a Cubs fan.
  17. He'll be a good fit at Duke where athletics (and certainly football) take a backseat to academics. I just disliked him immensely because of the ridiculous 7 home, 4 road, 1 neutral schedule template he was trying to get installed (basically guaranteeing we couldn't add any more marquee matchups to the sked - and rumor is that Alabama was one of the interested teams stonewalled by that ridiculous idea which really pisses me off), the lack of movement on the renovations to the Joyce Center, his insane Weis contract extension, etc. etc. He's best suited to a school like Duke. And I was quite happy with our AD hire to replace him.
  18. 4 up over everybody else in the NL, and we have the best trio of starting pitchers in the universe. No one wake me up from this dream.
  19. 5 out of 6 actually, but great performance
  20. If we're gonna go with a 5 man pen, why not get some more bench offensive players up here?
  21. Chad Gaudin is the goods. Hendry did a spectacular job getting Beane to part with him.
  22. Uh, Dempster had BETTER freaking not be coming back out
