    It'd be awesome to have to play Ronny Cedeno instead of Edmonds because he got himself suspended for 20 games.

    i'd thank jim very much for his contributions, request he wear a cubs hat to his hall of fame ceremony, and let felix pie actually have a shot at the job next year. he's been beyond amazing for the cubs this year. that doesn't change the fact that he's still pushing 40, injury prone, and has had declining numbers up until his cubs stint. Basically, it would be a smart move to do what the Cardinals usually do and recognize when they caught a break with how good a player was for them and not push their luck. And it would be a Cub move to do the opposite (Glendon, Neifi, etc.)

    When Jimmy got here I was pretty sure I would never be able to cheer for him quite the way I do for the other Cubs. Boy, was I wrong. And the OP is right - just like Barrett in the Oswalt incident, Edmonds earned his pinstripes tearing up the Cardinals today and getting a long-overdue curtain call.

    LaRussa's idiocy had a lot to do with it, I would classify that less as 'things going right' than 'the Cardinals have an extremely sketchy in-game manager'

    I'm getting sick of the AAA nonsense, especially when the White Sox play in possibly the second-worst division in baseball while the Cubs play in the second-best. BTW, according to Pythagorean the Cubs should have the best record in baseball by 3.5 games. AAA that.

    Jimmy hitting two homers and Henry effing Blanco with the walk-off hit, against the Cardinals = sweet. I'd love to see them try to beat Z tomorrow. He completely owns the Cardinals. Dempster after. It's looking mighty fine. :D

    you should be happy about that... i'd rather have a team that sucks ass than a team stuck in purgatory. I'm ambivalent, I was just joking about the 'streak'. Boggles my mind that as up and down and dooooooown that they've been that they've finished 2nd four years in a row. And no, we're not trading Smith, though we might as well. Sad that Smith is one of the great offensive players in this league and no one can even notice because he plays for an also-ran franchise.

    They make them. I have one, really sharp (relatively speaking). I think I got it in a Sports Authority. Thanks. I'll have to look for one next time I make a trip. I was actually at Kohl's of all places yesterday and they had a bunch of the gray jersey shirts, but they were all Soriano. I almost got it, but I have a blue Soriano already (although its in awful shape because of crappy dorm washers that don't rinse out all of the bleach from the previous user :evil: ). I picked up a blue Geo instead. Now I have a blue Soriano, Geo, Fuku, and a Aramis jersey. I just need a Harden now. Gray jersey shirts?

    Ludwick is bound and determined to continue to have 8 or more homers than any Cub. He sees Soriano heating up and immediately catches fire himself. And they're still 5 games back and an inferior team to Milwaukee, so they can enjoy their magical 3rd place finish. Bite me, St. Louis.

    LOL Lopez is starting in left field tonight. Seriously, left soapdropping field. And I don't remember anyone ever ranting about the awesomeness of Brendan Ryan. Stunting the super stardom of Joe Mather. I'm convinced that Tony La Russa draws out of a hat who plays LF and RF on any given night. If Ankiel is injured/out, then it's all three positions. Every time I see a game they have a different outfield alignment.

    On topic, I'm not pleased the Bucs will get Favre because it probably makes them better and might jeopardize Carolina's streak of finishing second in the division no matter how horrible/underachieving/good the team is (BTW, it's at four years in a row now)

    I look at Ryan Ludwick and I see Mark Bellhorn. One great season, then he fades into oblivion. Ludwick already has as many home runs as Bellhorn had in 2002. So long as the Cubs keep winning, STL can have as many Ludwick/Schumaker/Miles/Ankiel/etc success stories as they want, they're still probably not making the playoffs.

    That's not a problem for the Cubs. They aren't the ones who have to gain ground. I want as big a lead as possible, but Mizzou's right. All we can control is winning, and that's all we need to do.

    Not right now he isn't.For about two more days he's a co-closer. He probably won't even pitch again in that role as I'd imagine Samardzija, who hasn't pitched the last two games, gets the save opportunity tomorrow if there is one. It would appear that Lou will probably have Wood be the closer again in time for STL this weekend.

    Gaudin and Samardzija should be setup men, taking Howry out of that role. Marmol's already a setup man...how many do we really need? Could've had Eyre, Marmol AND Shark/Gaudin as setup men and had the other of Shark/Gaudin piggyback Harden while Marshall gets stretched out. This isn't wildly important now, but I fear the day a Cubs starting pitcher gets hurt late in the season too late to get Marshall ready to replace him, and you know what that would mean...

    Should've sent down Marshall. If you need a 'piggybacker' for Harden, we have at least two other solid options in the current pen besides Sean (Samardzija and Gaudin). There was no reason to get rid of one of the relievers who's actually pretty good at his job.

    I want to win the division by as many games as possible and crush all comers in the playoffs, and moreover do it without any obvious instances of luck (like some of the umpiring that went the Sox's way in 2005). I don't want there to be any doubt about how good this team was when they're looked back on.
