  1. It's not fair. It's not. No one should be able to avoid giving away that he's this good before becoming a professional. At least then a bad team would've gotten him with the 1st pick.
  2. I don't really cheer for other players to be injured, but last year, I had kind of hoped that he would never be the same that he had been in his Cy Young era. No surprise, he's right back to it.
  3. I'm more than a little peeved with Len talking about what a genius Pujols is as if he knew that Fukudome was going to make one of the worst throws I've ever seen him make.
  4. Keith Moreland sounds unnervingly like a cross between Tim McCarver and Darrell Waltrip in the booth.
  5. Last year the Cubs had zero 30-homer hitters and had the best offense in the majors, but that's unusual. I'd love to see some more homers.
  6. Unloading Hinrich's contract and Ty Thomas for a pretty solid player with an expiring contract would be okay with me. I like Boozer and think he'd be a good fit with us. We need some muscle down low.
  7. I don't either and I'm actually kind of surprised that he hasn't gotten more heat than he has. The rest of the staff has been great and with our offense it's highly unlikely he'd be doing much better in terms of team win percentage in his starts anyway, so he's kind of been swept under the rug. But yeah, he blows this year.
  8. After the Mark Mulder era, I derived a theory that the pixie dust doesn't work unless it's a crappy player. Picking up guys who are actually useful at baseball like DeRosa won't help.
  9. He's got to be the most random former Cubs to sing. Not just singing, but he's constantly making guest CSN analyst appearances and all this other stuff. I don't remember him ever doing anything except hitting a ground ball triple in the NLCS.
  10. Why exactly does Doug freaking Glanville get to be an ambassador of Cubdom?
  11. Fukudome was called out on a DP grounder at 2nd base when replays showed he was there literally about a second before the ball got to the Brave's glove.
  12. Unfortunately, that's not a play you can protest. And it was a horrible call....much worse than the Jeter one. Will it be on PTI? Umm....no.
  13. Honestly, this umpiring crew is getting on my [expletive] list. Two awful calls in two days at 2nd base.
  14. I've never heard Len denounce a call like that. It was unbelievably horrible.
  15. Hart's got to go, he's not useful right now. I wish Patton would go too, but he probably won't. My guess, for no good reason: Hart, Hoffpauir and Samardzija go down, but I wouldn't be surprised to see some sort of other move made.
  16. Ryan Franklin is having a pretty good year. I think he just means that it's ridiculous that either one of them were good enough for any extended period to make the team to begin with. Wearing Cards uniforms, natch.
  17. It's just not fair that he's on the Cardinals. It's not.
  18. It looks bad because of Fox is in his batting stance. But nine times out of ten that pitch is called a strike. The Cubs were fortunate to get the call. I'll go ahead and say 98 times out of 100 that's a strike. We were very fortunate. I didn't even know how to react because I was completely sure that we were headed to another inning until I saw the umpire didn't make any movement. That home plate umpire might have been the worst ump I've seen this year and not just because of that pitch to end the game. He was horrid today. Agreed. On that pitch, in that situation, every ump makes that strike 3 call, right or not. Apparently, except the one we had today.
  19. Put the Brewers in the http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e67/ndistops/Dumpster.jpg I miss this game but will see the final three of the series. We NEED these.
  20. I spent the whole game bitching to a friend of mine who's a Cardinals fan, telling them the season was pretty much over, we were gonna be 9.5 out, we needed to get this game to build some momentum, and slowly and slowly and slowly we chipped away, but I refused to believe a win was possible until the moment Aramis stepped into the box with a man on. Probably the most pure ecstasy I've felt as a Cubs fan apart from a division clinching game.
  21. I've been to Wrigley about 15 times, most of them in the bleachers, and I have seen/heard about 4 or 5 drunk belligerent morons that were probably just there to get drunk. I really don't think there are any more people that go to Wrigley to drink than go anywhere else, but since we sell out most games, there's this ridiculous mythos that gets built up to try to explain it apart from just saying the Cubs have a lot of fans.
  22. There is probably some sort of charm in rooting for a team like Pittsburgh and Kansas City, going to games for cheap, kind of being able to be detached because you don't need to have expectations, being able to go to games just for interesting matchups or whatnot if you like. I wouldn't trade being a fan of a team like the Cubs for it, but years like this, it seems a little less painful.
  23. Theriot hitting 8th is a little weird. Why not put him ahead of Fontenot?
