  1. I don't recall a big "Big Ten is better than Big East" argument last year. More along the lines of "Big East isn't as good as people think and Big ten isn't as bad. " I mentioned the tourney because everyone based the Big East = best conference ever stuff based on their top end teams, and they wound up striking out with them. They had four teams in the Elite Eight and two in the Final Four. No one made the final, but Pitt might have if Nova hadn't upset them - I think the Panthers would've had a good shot at UNC. MSU/UConn was a close game. I wouldn't call that 'striking out'. It wasn't setting the world on fire, but half the Elite Eight and half the Final Four is a pretty solid tournament performance.
  2. The AL/NL rotation currently has the AL hosting the ASG in 2014... This should qualify for a special exception. To make it up to the AL we will give them the Brewers back. Screw the AL over twice? :)

  4. Like the quotes I'm seeing. The Ricketts family says the right things - by April we'll have a good idea if they do them.
  5. I know it's unpopular but I still like the 'regular season is a playoff' thing. Though I don't like the BCS system - there's got to be a better way to do it. I'm guessing that the title picture will sort itself out.
  6. I'm happy you guys are ranked. 6 of 11 teams are ranked. Sweet. Damn it, you just reminded me how annoying it is that this whole thread is going to be Big Ten slurping. (They'll likely deserve it, granted, but it'll still be annoying.) The Big Ten has a good argument for being the best conference in basketball. 9/11 of the teams have tourney hopes to start the season, they have top end teams in MSU and Purdue, the only argument against them is Iowa and Indiana, but I'm not really sure there's a conference that doesn't have an IU and Iowa. It's certainly better than the Big East slurping that went on last year because of all their high end teams(all the while ignoring the utter dreck at the bottom) which amounted to 0 teams in the Championship. I think ND(and Georgetown) makes the tourney btw on a dead cat bounce and a down year for the Big East. There are a lot of good arguments for the Big Ten being better than the Big East. Number of teams in the championship game of a one-and-done tournament is not one of them. It surprises me that on a board full of people who generally agree that playoff baseball is a crapshoot that so many people are eager to jump on a one-and-done tournament performance as justification for one conference over another.
  7. It's not much of an exaggeration to say that lottery ball saved the franchise from being in a black hole for a few years. It was big to get this one since we're almost certainly not winning tomorrow. Very good win.
  8. So VT apparently isn't all that good. Too bad for the ACC, who don't seem to have anybody good this year. ETA: Ga. Tech, maybe. I guess.

  11. AP poll is out too. 1 Kansas 2 Michigan State 3 Texas 4 Kentucky 5 Villanova 6 North Carolina 7 Purdue 8 West Virginia 9 Duke 10 Tennessee 11 Butler 12 Connecticut 13 California 14 Washington 15 Michigan 16 Ohio State 17 Oklahoma 18 Mississippi State 19 Louisville 20 Georgetown 21 Dayton 22 Georgia Tech 23 Illinois 24 Clemson 25 Minnesota
  12. ND got some votes, but even though Seth Davis likes our team, I think that the Scott Martin ACL tear is going to end up costing us an NCAA bid.
  13. Black jerseys rarely don't at least look cool, but Tennessee's orange tops are among the best in college football and it sucks that they'd pass on wearing them.
  14. I remember those devastatingly harsh penalties placed on Notre Dame immediately after the Kim Dunbar scandal. And by devastating I mean 2 whole scholies pulled and by immediately after I mean 2-4.5 years after the fact. 2 more schollies than USC has lost for much more severe offenses, BTW. And by "2-4.5 years after the fact" you must mean "less than one year", because that's the actual truth. The allegations were from 1993-1998. The investigation was opened in January 1998 and the punishments were handed down in December of 1999. That's nearly two years and you're looking at 5 years of alleged malfeasance. Let's not act like the NCAA was swift in its actions. Anyway, the Bush/Mayo thing will bear fruit for you at some point and you can pretend its some great act of justice when all anyone really cares about is that a program you don't like gets punished--after all the only time people like the NCAA is when its sticking it to hated teams. It's not even just that. Michigan got a 'letter of inquiry' this week regarding those practice-time allegations, which of course is a good thing, but again, it's the NCAA moving quickly on something relatively minor while we've heard absolutely no news on Bush/Mayo in forever. And I hate Michigan MUCH more than I could ever dislike USC. It's just completely backwards and counter to everything the NCAA claims to stand for.
  15. Also OK St is not being punished, Dez Bryant is. I'd say losing the team's best player when OK State had a chance to be as good as they've been in a very long time would qualify as the team being punished.

  17. Meanwhile, still nothing about Reggie Bush or O.J. Mayo. The NCAA is a crock of [expletive].
  18. In fairness though, Bradley has a lot more value as a player than Sammy had at that time.
  19. ABC will have regional coverage of the two big games this weekend. The other one will be on ESPN2.
  20. Especially based on potential. He needs to sit a year as the backup, but no teams are going to pass him up unless they have no need to draft a QB. Shut up guys, he can't know about this. :D
  21. I didn't realize how truly bad Florida's schedule is until I looked it up during a debate with a friend. They play 2 currently ranked teams - LSU and South Carolina (the latter probably won't finish the season ranked). They play 3 trash non-conference games and Florida State. The rest of their schedule consists of Kentucky, Miss State, Georgia, Vanderbilt, Arkansas and Tennessee. That's pretty weak.
  22. because you would be an authority on how to properly host any sort of party that doesn't take place at chuck e cheese Are you saying I have kids or that I'm 12 years old? I'll tell you now, neither is true.
  23. Go Panthers! Get... Oh right, we traded our top 10 pick for a backup DE.
  24. Why choose? Game long decided by 10:30 or 11, show up fashionably late to the parties (which normally start around 10 here - I can't speak for other schools). Watch game at party? The only person I know that would ever have college football games on at Halloween parties is typing this post.
