  1. The camera angle is weird, everything to the outfield feels like it hangs up forever.
  2. It's actually only on ESPN. Marquee isn't airing this one.
  3. Dempster is actually a pretty decent color guy and I can't recall any recent instances of him hamming it up when on air in that specific capacity.
  4. Stuff like this happens all the time with teams opening their seasons at the Diamondbacks or at the Rays or situations like that.
  5. Looks like Steele is fine
  6. I remember the Torco sign, and I remember thinking the Miller Lite ad that changed to make different silly jokes at the opponent's expense every series was fun. That was when that was about it for ads you could see in Wrigley.
  7. On one level it would be a total catastrophe for the sport if MLB's most popular star were in some horrible gambling scandal. Yet there's part of me that would find it completely hilarious, especially mere months after he signed this game-changing deal. I guess I'm a strange bird.
  8. Ron is a perfectly decent radio color guy and he and Pat have great chemistry. And Zach is also a professionally employed radio broadcaster.
  9. I believe the consensus is that in theory the Cubs are not over the line but in practice, given the various roster shuffling that every team can expect over the course of the season, they will be. That could change if they suck and sell some people off.
  10. Color me in this group. I was a passive Braves fan as a little kid in S Carolina, moved to Indiana, and the first close friend I made basically made me watch the Cubs with him until I fell in love and switched allegiances. I have no idea, if you had to put a number on it, to what extent Sammy affected that decision by 13 year old me, but the number definitely was not zero.
  11. Now announced he'll be out until past the All-Star break. Fiddlesticks.
  12. C - Cal Raleigh ($100) 1B - Matt Olson ($200) 2B - Ozzie Albies ($100) SS - Corey Seager ($100) 3B - Alex Bregman ($75) LF - Yordan Alvarez ($100) CF - Mike Trout ($50) RF - Anthony Santander ($75) DH - Pete Alonso ($200) Total $1000 Bench players to be PM'd.
  13. He never does.
  14. What I saw was there was no no-trade protection in the contract.
  15. This one isn't on Ricketts specifically. The letters (among many things) look ridiculous on all these MLB jerseys with the new Fanatics design. I think/hope something will be done before the regular season.
  16. He said he was nervous, but it was clearly the good nervous. The fact that he dropped an Anchorman reference (La Stella wasn't mic'd up, but he might have sparked it) during crunch time of the biggest baseball game of his life was just the best, most endearing thing.
  17. I don't know if this is what you mean, but Ross literally called nothing but fastballs for Chapman when both were in the game in Game 6, and Cleveland picked up on that and sat dead red when both were in the game in Game 7. Ross did not adjust until after the Davis homer, which would never have been possible (it was a fairly well-located pitch and very hard to get around on) if Davis thought there was any chance Chapman was throwing a not-fastball.
  18. Sigh. Been dreading that development.
  19. He did say that Toronto and Wrigley are prime contenders for the 27 and 28 ASGs, which is all I care about from that interview.
  20. In the defense of people basically saying this, the $8M Counsell is getting is a drop in the bucket compared to what it takes to sign an impact free agent.
  21. I think it's a defensible call to take the ball first, but I don't know if it's 100% anything. There is some advantage at having the first crack at sudden death if it comes to it, but I imagine it's hard to quantify, especially with such limited data.
  22. Passan reporting there are opt outs after years 7-10 for Witt. There's also a 3-year club option tacked on to the end of it, but it seems hard to imagine Witt not using any of his opt-outs while the Royals also want to keep him at big money for 3 more years.
