  1. 28637. I've moved up 107 spots in 15.5 months. Hilarious. Oddly enough, your best hope is for the Cubs to suck for a long time and people to give them up. Otherwise, you (and me, and pretty much everyone below us on the waiting list) are screwed.
  2. Isn't Cleveland able to offer LeBron more money than another team per some Stern pet rule that basically encourages guys to stay with their teams? I'm not certain of this but I think I've heard it before.
  3. When was NY ever the premier destination for stars? Honestly, when was the last time the Knicks signed a free agent that a bunch of other teams wanted? I think this NY thing is colossally overblown.
  4. 65 is already diluted for a tournament. There's nothing ridiculous about that argument. What is ridiculous is trying to compare NCAA basketball as a league similar to NHL, NBA and NFL. Exactly. By the end of the regular season, there are rarely more than a handful of teams seriously being considered for a national title. If all these teams were on a level playing field, it'd be different, but the fact is of these 65 teams, at least half and probably more have pretty much no chance at all of winning the title.
  5. When is the last time the best team didn't win the title? Beisdes the obvious in '05  2006 I guess (Florida was a 3 seed). 3 years before that, Syracuse, another 3 seed, won. The best team wins more often than I'm granting the system, but it won't happen as much now, I'll bet.
  6. I agree with snood in that this makes it even less likely that the best team will win the title. The 64-team tournament, while fun as hell, already resulted in the best team not usually winning the title, and this will make it even worse. For all the ridiculous faults in college football's system, and there are many, it's better than this 96-team insanity. No reason to even play a regular season for a lot of teams at this point.
  7. Take this FWIW, but SPORTSbyBROOKS is reporting, citing an ESPN source and an unnamed source from a big-time hoops school, that a 96-team March Madness is a done deal.
  8. The A's are DFAing Taveras, so essentially they traded Miles for a minor leaguer.
  9. Fans on the ND boards are flipping lids over a scholarship offer to some DE named Bruce Heggie who nobody else offered.
  10. I'm sure they'll "go after" one of them. The question is if they'll actually have the cap space to land one. Without moving Salmons, Deng or Hinrich, it isn't happening. It's nice when the Bulls win, but I'm afraid this recent stretch of good play will make them short sighted and they'll hang onto everyone at the deadline. They need to think about the long term health of the franchise and not become too enamored with the idea of maybe winning a first round series this year. My assumption would be that the front office learned from the Baby Bulls/Kobe fiasco and now realize that you need a big-ticket guy to win a title, and that we don't have one right now (Rose may possibly become one, but point guards don't seem to be able to be 'those guys').
  11. It's not irrational. Scrappy McGritterson is buying into his own hype as the new (and white) Mr. Cub and it annoys the crap out of me.
  12. I have a feeling the shine is going to start coming off the Mike Brey era pretty soon (for the national media - a lot of ND fans have already conceded that we've already seen his ceiling as a coach). He still has this rep as a great coach right now, but ND hasn't played any defense whatsoever the last two seasons sine Gene Cross left for Toledo (where, oddly, he's been a total failure thus far - I thought he'd do great there), and his ridiculous failure to ever play more than 7 men consistently is holding back the development of guys like Joey Brooks and Jack Broghammer. We're going to need those two next year to replace Harangody and Jackson's production, and they're getting no minutes at all right now. Tim Abromaitis has been at many points ND's best player this year and yet he never sniffed consistent minutes prior to this season. It makes no sense. I didn't think this team could possibly disappoint me more than last year's team, but something like 6-12 in league play is completely in play here and I expected a lot more.
  13. Why is it that all these stupid one-dimensional Thabeet types that no one else seems to have that much trouble with always completely dominate games against ND on the defensive end?
  14. Don't know, but Sam Smith Tweeted that this 5-2 trip is the best Bulls road trip since 1996-97, when that team went 5-1 on a West Coast trip. That's incredible. And now the Bulls have a nice homestand coming up. This is a real opportunity for the Bulls to make a move. It would be pretty apropos for the team to crap the bed when they should be making a move up the standings too. It absolutely would.
  15. I don't know if we ever made fun of Cards fans' love of Jimmy. We just made fun of him.

  17. The Vikings had the game winning FG in their sights and didn't get it done. That no-call was a bad one, but the Vikings had a chance at making it not matter and messed it up. Call it 'backing in' if you want, but the Saints win wasn't appreciably luckier in my mind than a slew of other close conference title games - the Colts 'backed into' Super Bowl XLI under this logic and it worked out OK for them.
  18. The NFL has really been making a big deal out of some dumb things lately. It made no sense when they tried to trademark "Big Game", and it doesn't make any sense to do this.
  19. backed. into. Super Bowl. This may very well be the dumbest retort in the history of this message board (excluding trolls). OMC basically told you why you're wrong and you respond with the same hollow immeasurable BS you've been spewing for 2 pages.
  20. I've made my peace with Jimmy. He was a huge part of that 2008 team. I have no bitterness towards him either, I just don't want him to play well for a division rival.
  21. Mascara, half-shirts, etc. Hope he plays his way onto the roster. And then is not good.
  22. It would end the 2nd longest streak in the NBA of not having any All-Stars. First one since Jordan.
  23. So do I. Neither of us should be given contracts.
  24. Just a week ago, they lost to the Clippers and Warruirs, so no. They are, however, 3 ahead of Milwaukee for the 8th spot currently, so they're in decent position. I would love to get to at least the 6 seed to draw Atlanta or Orlando instead of Boston or Cleveland.
  25. What in the world got into this team? Whatever it is, please don't let it get back out.
