  1. Stoops denied them. Eerily similar to last year when ND was so close to landing Stoops that Adam Schefter claimed he'd be the coach by the next day. I'm not sure what Stoops is playing at.
  2. Hearing those MVP chants bellowed throughout the UC was awesome. First time I can remember one of my team's guys getting such chants.
  3. I still think the 2004 team was the best team we've had on paper during the Hendry regime. Which is sad considering how much the Tribune had spent on payroll year in and year out during the regime. I still remember the SI cover with Kerry Wood and something saying hell had frozen over. :? The 2004 baseball preview issue that predicted us to win the World Series because we had made "all the right off-season moves".
  4. i have a feeling that ryan mallett is going to suck. Mallett is the next Favre. The interception part anyway. Was it the Alabama game that he blew with a couple of horrendous throws that were picked off? Yes, sir. And actually, I should ease off Mallett. From the 2007 draft on, I have been wildly wrong about just about everybody apart from sure things like Calvin Johnson and Suh. For all I know he could be awesome.

  6. They did last year - or at least had a Web show in which they would stream some of the game and have analysis as it was going on. For obvious reasons they didn't stream the whole game, but you saw the most important parts.
  7. I'll believe this in September when Meyer is not coaching Florida in the opener. Sounds like he was back in the hospital the week of the Georgia game. If thats true then I think he is gone for a year or so to get things worked out. He was in the hospital this time last year and came back after three days.

  9. Not thrilled by Pena at first but he should be an offensive upgrade over last season at less money than we paid Lee last year, so fair enough.
  10. If I were Michigan, he'd get another year if he fired Robinson with the understanding that he'd better win 9 or 10 games in 2011.
  11. It's too bad Carolina can't play bad teams every week, just because it's funny to have the weekly fantasy stampede for the defense we are going against.
  12. I can't believe Michigan hasn't made a move one way or the other by now. Waiting until after the bowl seems like complete lunacy unless they have some sort of back-channel communication going on with an NFL assistant...which I suppose is far from out of the question.
  13. i don't think so. we already know that tulsa is better than notre dame and hawai'i is probably better than a miami team playing a sub-par bowl with no coach. The Notre Dame that's played the last 3 games is probably significantly better than Tulsa (Sagarin, oddly, has the Irish rated just outside the top 25), but I don't think ND/Miami belongs in the list of ten best bowl games. Ten most interesting, perhaps, depending on one's view.
  14. Last I had heard Harbaugh had an extension offer in front of him at Stanford and was on the verge of signing it.
  15. Honestly there's really no reason left for the Big Ten to expand unless/until one of those NYC-area teams actually starts commanding eyeballs out there.
  16. You'd think Jimmy Clausen would play a little bit better considering he's basically playing for his job. If he doesn't win another game or two, Andrew Luck is going to replace him (it seems the prevailing wisdom around the league at this point is there's no way Luck isn't going #1 regardless of who's picking). Granted every time I see a glimpse of them playing the poor bastard is running for his life behind the worst offensive line ever fielded by a professional team, but you've got to show something out there. Peter King fielded a question from a Panthers fan on Twitter asking if Harbaugh/Luck was a possibility for Carolina. King said, "It would be a great move for them". Well thanks PK, we knew that...that's why everyone wants to know if it's possible.
  17. ouch. Yeah, the MAC more than any other conference is going to get the screws from the "everybody's equal" rule change. There's not one remotely sexy team in the conference and they'd been getting quite a few bowl bids from 7-5 teams thanks to the 6-6 rule prior to this year.
  18. This thread can also serve as the all-purpose thread for Army/Navy next week, the FCS playoffs, and whatever other college football news happens to sprout up. I think last year there was a separate coaching changes thread, so if someone wants to start that, feel free.

  20. Thank you UConn, because even without a coach I'd much rather play Miami in the Sun Bowl than NC State in the Champs Sports. Would've been nice if Wazzu could've won to set up a big-time Holiday Bowl matchup, but then counting on WSU to win is sheer lunacy.
  21. Do I assume that Michigan State is pretty much locked into the Capital One based on this information?
  22. Last year the college football player everyone wanted punched in the face WAS punched in the face...will history repeat itself?
  23. It's going to be OU/NU-UConn/WVU in the Fiesta, Arkansas/Ohio State in the Sugar and FSU/VT against whoever's left (most likely Boise State, Missouri and Oklahoma State would be eligible, though Oklahoma might possibly be as well if they lose by a small margin tonight). You're forgetting Stanford. They'll finish in the top-4 and get an auto at large spot. I'm hoping the Orange doesn't think Stanford will travel well and will select the Big East winner which would leave OU/NU against Stanford in the Fiesta. Best case is UConn loses tonight which would give WVU the auto-bid. Crap, how'd I forget Stanford? I think the Orange would probably prefer them to the Big East champ.
