Summarize? Ripped the selection of NIU and the system that is set up that allows them to play despite their resume. Also ripped the cap on two schools from each BCS conference. Noted that NIU lost to Iowa and Kent State lost to Kentucky. The whole thing would be a lot more intellectually honest if they'd leave Georgia out of it. Georgia played 3 teams with winning records. They lost to two of them and needed 800,000 turnovers from Florida to win the other one.

Usually I argue hypotheticals like that with "There's no way that team would have the guts to schedule that matchup". For USC, which actually deigns to play AQ opponents most of the time OOC, it's actually the opposite.

The coaches' poll public ballots are out. Bob Stoops voted Boise 22 and N. Illinois 24. He voted his own team 6th. Vanderbilt coach James Franklin had SEC teams 1-3, then Notre Dame at 4. I'm sure if you spend enough time you'll find several other fascinating votes.

CFB fans antagonize ND fans more than any other fan base and then are shocked, SHOCKED I say, when there are some who argue back. So they hate ND even more. Vicious circle. I've said many times, the day people don't hate the Irish is the day I'll worry about where they stand in the CFB universe. For people who don't want NIU to make a BCS game, the Huskies' schedule is ranked 120th in the nation this year, which would be the 2nd-worst SOS of any BCS bowl participant ever if they made it. 1st was Hawaii 2007, who was also 120th, but there were only 120 teams then instead of 124.

4 teams pretty much directly in front of Boise and N. Illinois lost, and Nebraska is getting crushed so completely that one would think there's a chance that Boise or NIU could pass them too. We could have a BCS buster yet.

Yeah, I can see it's because Georgia would have an extra loss (to AL this week), but the 3rd place SEC team would fairly regularly make the playoff then while the SEC Championship game loser wouldn't make it. Right? The SEC has held 21 championship games. Both participants have been ranked in the top-4 going into the game three times (08 and 09 with Florida and Bama both times, and this year). In 08, Bama was undefeated and dropped to No. 4 in the BCS after the loss (and still made a BCS game). Florida was No. 4 going in and would not have made the playoff but would still have made a BCS game as the next best SEC team was a 9-3 Georgia. In 09, Florida lost and dropped to No. 5 but still made a BCS game. It's entirely possible they still get selected over No. 3 Cincy or No. 4 TCU in a playoff. I assume Alabama would have been in the same boat (both were undefeated) had they lost the SEC title game. The next best SEC team was 9-3 LSU. Only three other times has an SEC team ranked in the top-4 lost the SEC title game (94, 01 and 05). In 94, No. 3 Alabama lost to Florida and dropped to No. 6. Auburn was ranked in the top-10 but ineligible from postseason play. In 2001, No. 2 Tennessee lost the SEC title game to LSU and was left out of the BCS to a Florida team it beat 34-32 on the road. In 05, No. 3 LSU lost to Georgia and was left out of the BCS in favor of Notre Dame. So seeing as it's happened twice in 21 years, no, I don't think it will happen every year. Thanks, that's a lot more helpful. Every year was an exaggeration, but that makes 3 out of 5 years? That's not counting last year where Alabama and LSU couldn't play each other in the conference championship game but if LSU had lost to Georgia would they have ended up in a hypothetical Final 4 playoff? They were far enough ahead they probably would've I guess. LSU was being discussed as a title-game lock last year regardless of the SEC title game, so I'm guessing they'd have slipped into the top 4.

It's stupid that Georgia beat Florida on the road and both teams have one loss yet Georgia would be the team left out. Florida is better off being in 3rd place in the SEC than 1st or 2nd. They can sit at home with a spot in the 4 team playoff already locked up while Georgia and Alabama (AHEAD OF THEM IN THE STANDINGS) have to play for one spot. How does that make sense? If conferences are going to have blatant money grabs (which is all these championship games are and all they've ever been), then the teams in them have to accept the consequences of those games. Florida has a better resume than Georgia going into this Saturday. Georgia has played two teams with winning records. Two.

The hell of it is for the basketball-only Big East schools like Georgetown, Marquette, St. John's et al, there's nowhere else to go. They still get more TV money by riding it out with SMU, Houston, Tulane and East Carolina than they do splitting off and forming a basketball-only conference. It's a shame.
