  1. Also, his grand slam in the NLCS and his 8th inning grand slam in 2008 off the Phillies when the Cubs were down 2. That slam in 2008 was probably my favorite moment of the season, because we'd reached the point by then where the team had come through in such spots so many times that I kind of just assumed he was going to come up with a huge hit, and sure enough, he did. GD it, that was probably the best 6-month span of my life as a sports fan, and then October ruined everything.
  2. Why can't Dale figure out when to take guys out and what relievers to use in the right spots?
  3. All Lake does is lace line drives into the gap. It's awesome.
  4. Quit sullying the issue with your logic and on-topic discussion.
  5. And from the Urban Meyer tough-guy file: Evidently, a video from the nightclub where Hyde allegedly punched a woman shows that he didn't. Or something.
  6. Come on. It's melodramatic, I know, but giving conference-employed refs the ability to throw out other players on obvious judgment calls, when millions of dollars are at stake for those same conferences in some of these games - even if there's nothing sleazy going on, you'd think they'd at least try to avoid the appearance of impropriety. And aside from that, it's stupid to try to assess 'targeting' intent. A good many of these hits look worse than they are because of instinctive movements the offensive player makes before contact. There's really no way to avoid that.
  7. I just love that they're allowing refs to eject players for that sort of thing now. You're going to see so many suspicious ejections in games involving BCS contenders in November it's going to be ridiculous.
  8. While it's funny to think about the White Sox being stupid enough to turn down that trade, I doubt STL was stupid enough to offer it.
  9. I believe it was that he was the first Cub to get 4 hits in one of his first 5 games with the team since Steve Lake. Something to that effect.
  10. http://www.fangraphs.com/statss.aspx?playerid=2430&position=2B Good eye. Fangraphs has his FB% at 36.5 which is a stark increase from his prior years' numbers.
  11. They actually gave him a hit, unless they changed it.
  12. Oh, it's not. We're at least 2 days, 3 'mystery teams' and a few debunked rumors of top prospects coming back from resolution on this one.
  13. Wouldn't it be great to see Lake blow up and go all [expletive] Puig on us? In any case, nice to see him getting a hot start. Lake actually has a little Puig in him. Super-athletic righthanded bat with pop and zero patience whatsoever. He's fun to watch right now for sure.
  14. That's a 3-hit game and a 4-hit game in his first 4 MLB games.
  15. I'll take the pool for 100 Alex. Gimme Ramirez all day. I know nothing about this guy, but can't imagine the pool would be better. Grab Ramirez.
  16. Is this true? ESPN says he's been suspended indefinitely, which tends to be the way a coach seems tough at the time it's fresh in the minds of people but allows him to cut it to a game or a half a game when the season starts. Initial reports indicated he was being outright dismissed, but you are correct.
  17. As I mentioned earlier, though, his xFIP is 4.25. In the majors. And he's not even 25 yet.
  18. I'm very happy with the addition of Grimm. Moving from the AL West to the NL Central should help him, and with some luck maybe he can do a reasonable imitation of Scott Feldman's Cubs tenure.
  19. Hmm. Grimm's only 25 (in August) and has a 4.25 xFIP this year. That's not bad.
  20. God, Kaplan. Just try to be intelligent, just once. I mean, there is a chance that Mike Olt will turn out to be good. Thus, Bryant would move to the OF. Even if Olt turned out to be good, it'd probably be him going to the OF.
  21. Rusin will start tonight per Rosenthal.
