    And Edwin Jackson..Can't wait until they dump both those losers..Why the [expletive] don't they just play Valbuena at 2B and Olt at 3B? Either let Olt play or just send him down..Barney is such a [expletive] block. i hate darwin barney much much more than i hate jackson (which is not really at all - not to say that he doesn't need to do better). oh, and mike olt might even be a worse option than barney, which i can't believe i'm saying. I hate watching Barney, but I can't [expletive] stand Jackson. We can easily win a game when Barney sucks - it's much harder to do it when Jackson does. I'm sure a big part of it is annoyance that he's the only big contract we've handed out in years.

    Yeah, if Alcantara can come up after the deadline and establish himself at 2B/CF, then it would help out for next year a lot. The key is adding a FA outfielder. Get a solid guy, even for the short term like Cruz or Markakis, and the Cubs have very few black holes in the lineup for the near future. Start the year with: 2B- Alcantara 3B- Valbuena 1B- Rizzo SS- Castro RF- Cruz/Markakis LF- Lake CF- Sweeney/Ruggiano C- Castillo By June, you could have: CF- Alcantara 2B- Valbuena 1B- Rizzo LF- Bryant RF- Markakis/Cruz SS- Castro 3B- Baez (still think he ends up at 3B rather than 2B) C- Castillo The latter is a lineup you don't dread anyone coming up, except when they are in a cold streak which Castro, Alcantara, Baez, and Castillo have all been prone to. What to do with Lake? Does some GM overvalue him? Could he bring back a nice package due to his contract controllability? The short answers to these questions are 'hopefully nothing important', 'no way in hell', and 'absolutely no way in hell'.

When Hendry was here he spoonfed Kapper stories that were just trial balloons. Jed and Theo don't play media favorites and there aren't the leaks(cough) we had before. He just makes up stories to have something to talk about on the radio. EJax makes $13M and Shark can see he's better than him. But he'll also be 30 next year and to commit $16-18M for a number of years, before you see what Baez, Bryant etc.. do up here is silly. Trade him now for a great package and we can move on. I'm not saying Shark is the person to do this with, but at some point Theo and Jed are going to have to try to compete without having actually done it. You can play this "can't sign X without seeing what Y and Z do up here" game forever otherwise.
