  1. Multiple reports saying Tennessee is about to hire Rick Barnes.
  2. Pretty wild given that the Final Four (semifinal games) was on TBS last year. That said I expect that record to be broken this weekend because both games, particularly Wisconsin/UK, should be quite fun.
  3. There is absolutely no reason to be more interested in the minors. Bryant is a MLB player who has to take a quick detour because of CBA reasons and the rest of the MLB team is very much worth being interested in now.
  4. Nothing he could do in the minors would 'make me excited about him' unless he turned into Sylvester Coddmyer III and hit a home run every time up. I put it in quotes because I'm not totally throwing in the towel on Baez, but he's going to have to hit in the majors to get me fired up again. Also, good call early ITT, David and TT, about Alcantara. I must have just had him in the OF mentally because he didn't pop to mind.
  5. So La Stella at second and Olt at third for a few weeks I guess? Does this at all affect whether Bryant plays 3B or LF when he comes up, if Javy isn't back yet?
  6. Wisconsin is probably the last good chance to beat Kentucky. Don't think Duke matches up very well with them.
  7. Wanted that one so bad. Especially for Grant and Connaughton, each of whom came back when they had reasons not to. ND will continue to be consistently good, but I don't know if they'll ever get a group like that one again.
  8. You can learn to like it.
  9. Panthers mine as always.
  10. There's a book where some guy goes and sits in the bleachers for the whole 1987 season just called Bleachers. I don't remember loving it, but I was also an infant during that season, so a lot of the references were lost on me. There were some pretty good Andre Dawson stories though IIRC.
  11. Supposedly a mutual parting of the ways, but weren't they just working on an extension? I could've sworn I saw that on the ESPN ticker.
  12. I mean, I don't love Duke's title chances, but it seems pretty silly to throw them out. I enjoy watching Louisville and MSU, so I'm looking forward to both of those games.
  13. BRB getting sloppy happy drunk for the next 2 days
  14. That article made me want to jet down to Mesa like right [expletive] now
  15. No one ever accused people who prefer college sports (myself included) of being remotely logical.
  16. That doesn't seem appreciably different to me.
  17. Agreed, this team is not very good. Offensively, they're bad and rely on their size rather than ability on defense. Yet they're likely to put that 76 Hoosiers team out of their misery. The NCAA needs to keep players until their a junior or turn 21 to remain relevant. Which they have no right to do (nor does the NBA have the right to keep them from being pros), so I'm not sure what the move is.
  18. I'm not sure why one would come into a thread about this subject and say this. I think I posted it in response to the discussion about all the fouls being called. Have you watched any of these games? They're horrific. I've watched a good amount, and I think it is not news that college basketball is worse than the NBA and that if you are a Basketball Purist you definitely want to watch the NBA and not college basketball. They need a 30-second shot clock, to go from 5 timeouts to 3, and to do something meaningful about flopping. The games don't seem much more 'horrific' than they are every year. You might be surprised to find that the people on this board generally know college athletics is objectively inferior to the pros in terms of level of play and are aware that that is just one of many issues with it, and just happen to like it anyway. And that the handful that don't realize the former are not the sort of well-meaning people that are going to be convinced by a drive-by "COLLEGE SPORTS Sox" post on a message board. Also, I'm amused by the fact that 'sucks' with an x substituted for the 'cks' autocorrects to Sox.
  19. I'm not sure why one would come into a thread about this subject and say this.
  20. Rany Jazayerli ‏@jazayerli now In 1982-83, McReynolds hit .372/.421/.689 in 243 games, albeit all in great hitters parks. Bryant's SLG looks like the highest in 30 years. Rany Jazayerli ‏@jazayerli 1m1 minute ago Thanks to everyone for your help. @EricMilburn found someone with a higher minor league SLG-as everyone guessed, it was Kevin McReynolds (!) As a kid my baseball glove was a McReynolds, and this is the first time I've ever seen him mentioned outside that context.
  21. He definitely did it, though. What a roller coaster that was. And then to find out after that Brey lost his mother. Heart wrenching. So thankful for what he's built this program to be.
  22. It seems like that guy has been there for 20 years. I think he was on the team that beat ND 3 years ago in the tournament.
  23. If you told me one 3 seed was going to lose by 3 pm, I'd have gone ahead and packed ND's bags for them.
  24. If I didn't listen to it, I'd have nothing to bitch about. Almost all of the music radio stations suck in Chicago, I don't have XM, and my car is from 2010, right before USB ports became the norm in cars. So basically its either sports radio, NPR or being forced to talk to my wife. I have one of those after-market stereos and an AUX cord. I haven't listened to the radio in a car I've owned in like 6 years.
  25. It was definitely mentioned with George Springer and Gregory Polanco last year, and I'm sure was played up more than we're aware of by local media types in those cities.
