  1. Apparently the rationale is to clear 2017 money. Chris Johnson went to Cleveland in the deal.
  2. There are too many legitimate options for shirseys now for a Chicago resident only owning a Castro to be acceptable. I've picked up Russell, Bryant and Schwarber on my trips to games this year. My Castro is essentially a pajama shirt at this point.

    Castro

I'm not super familiar with ADD/ADHD in a 'I've been around it' sense, but wouldn't it take more than just the occasional mental lapse to credibly say there's a chance someone has it? That seems like a writer trying way too hard to find a different angle during a long baseball season.
  4. Castro benched, Schwarber LF, Coghlan 2B, Russell SS. Joe going all-in on offense today.
  5. We had nothing interesting Cubs-related to talk about in years past.
  6. I like being aggressive but it wouldn't have just taken a decent throw or relay. Basically anything that wasn't spiked or thrown to the backstop was going to have him out by a wide margin. That ball was ripped and he was 2-3 steps away from 3rd when the LF had it and not all that deep. with a 3 run lead, that extra run is gravy so it's not like you're dead if he's out. starlin castro is up next and he is not good. i'd rather gamble on them [expletive] that play up than starlin getting a hit there (or not making an out and then the next guy getting a hit). I'd rather gamble on the .238 chance that Castro gets a hit than what I anticipate was the far less than that chance of SF [expletive] that play up. Lobbed throws would've nailed Rizzo on that play.
  7. And instead there's a definite nonzero chance that his contributions will prove the difference in getting us in the playoffs. There's one none of us could've guessed.
  8. That pitch to K Crawford was the nastiest thing I've seen in a long time. Great way to start the series.
  9. Even though I have no reason to doubt Rondon, I always get more nervous in these games where we stopped scoring 6+ innings ago.
  10. We really need to stop playing Castro. Get Baez up.
  11. I need it explained how Coghlan's ball stays in and that one doesn't
  12. I knew it wouldn't be because of the wind and such, but it definitely looked like it ought to have been that far.
  13. That Schwarber walk shouldn't be overlooked. Set the tone. What a big league hitter he is
  14. I don't get why you guys are so caught up in things like this. Some players/pitchers aren't championed in the minors and can develop into really good players in the majors. It happens quite often actually. Because it never seems to happen for us. Every once in a while we see some irrelevant dude like Donnie Murphy play out of his mind for a few months, but almost never do our marginal players develop legit, solid careers, which is what consistently happens in St. Louis. Yes, I think this is what it is. Now I'm going to waste time trying to figure out the last time a generally untouted guy turned into a legitimate thing for the Cubs for more than a month or so. ETA: I guess you could pretty easily make the case Arrieta would qualify, actually.
  15. I just hate him for his name (and the obvious fact that he was an STL player playing above his talent level for them). I've always called him Skippy.
  16. You hand over 2 runs on defensive miscues and you lose by 2, that's how
  17. Frustrating loss especially with the defense problems early. But the good news is we can swiftly make up for it with some good play the next 4. Offense has a pulse again and the good 4 pitchers are going. I like our chances
  18. We would be so good if Soler would even be average and not [expletive] awful
  19. Walking the guy in front of the other team's best hitter didn't work out, who knew
  20. If we were playing a normal Polanco shift there, that's a double play. Bad luck
  21. That was Castro's ball and he should've called it
  22. Russell tagged him out anyway. Such a dumb argument
  23. I'm still lost as to why we picked up someone with FIPs no better than several options already in house. (Noting that the 2nd run was Bryant's fault)
  24. Our left side of the infield clanks way too many routine grounders
