  1. It's self-parody that 30+ white billionaire Trumpers trust themselves so little to give minority coaching candidates a chance that they would propose draft-pick affirmative action to fix it instead of just, you know, giving minority coaching candidates a chance.
  2. I don’t think there’s been any official report they’re going to want further salary reductions than just a pro-rated set up. Think it’s all been speculation on how everyone expects the owners to act. Silver/NBA had a conference call last week and he hinted/implied NBA players will probably have to take a a pretty big pay cut because of lost revenues. But they have a different set up with a salary cap and that moves directly with revenue. Rosenthal has reported the players are expected to be asked to take a further pay cut. This is not just speculation.
  3. I don't want the PA to give an inch on further salary reductions. Like Andrew Miller said in that story, player salaries have never been adjusted either way by attendance before and there's no good reason it should start now.
  4. I'm getting very frustrated with messaging like this, which was common last month when the subject of a potentially delayed football season started up. Not because people shouldn't stay home as much as they can, but that by itself will have jack and horsefeathers to do with whether we get sports again anytime soon. Either testing will be ramped up enough or it won't. Either someone will find effective treatments for this virus or they won't. Neither of those things is affected in the least by whether people stay home.
  5. Even though fans almost certainly won't be allowed, there's a definite warmth at the idea of baseball at Wrigley again.
  6. I remember savoring the sweep of Miami in 07 the year after they beat the Bulls in the playoffs. 91 vs Detroit must have been that times, I don't know, 200?
  7. 3 more passes than Taysom Hill has completed to Saints in his career.
  8. I probably would've picked Isaiah Simmons instead of Derrick Brown at 7 if it were up to me, but from what I've read of both Carolina couldn't go wrong either way. Brown will be a big help (pun intended).
  9. As Rodgers is very aware of (he even said so on a radio interview), this is the first time GB has drafted an offensive skill guy in the 1st round since they picked him. Thanks for all the help, fellas!
  10. If we're ignoring the Addison Russell category of personal scumbags, then there's only one guy that reigns supreme in the least-favorite category. I absolutely horsefeathering despised Aaron Miles. At that time my hatred for St. Louis was at an all-time high and I couldn't believe Hendry was dumb enough to sign a post-prime guy who wasn't even good when he was good just because he'd gotten a hold of the pixie dust for a year or two. Edwin Jackson would be #2 on that list and LaTroy Hawkins #3.
  11. Gronk apparently told the Pats he wanted to come out of retirement but only to play with Brady. Honestly I would've thought Belichick could get more out of Tampa in such a deal.
  12. I went on a Jordan kick a couple years ago and got both Playing for Keeps and The Life. Both great books. I haven't read Jordan Rules in forever but will probably get back to it at some point.
  13. I want footage of Scottie berating Krause on the team bus. And I know it's there because there was bus footage. Yeah, for pro athletes to be wincing at how brutal it was is something. I get the impression the documentary guys wanted me to feel bad for Krause, and I about 60% did. The guy was a really good GM when it came to the raw deal-making. Hell, if it weren't for the collateral damage of alienating MJ, pretty much every rumored trade he had on the table for Pippen would've been good moves. But he was just too big of a [expletive] personally, and I'd love to find out what it was about Phil specifically that pissed him off so much.
  14. No particular order from someone who's only been a fan during the 21st century: Javy Rizzo Lester Hendricks Aramis Sosa Bryant Soriano Fowler Zambrano Wood Prior Castellanos and Edmonds get into a Midseason Acquisitions wing.
  15. The parrot video is the only reason I ever remember him. He was also at the plate for the walk off wild pitch against Philly that year that put us in first. I was there, otherwise I might not remember that.
  16. Being as fair as possible to the Bulls on that one, Jimmy has kind of revealed himself to be a bit of a dick in recent years. Not a full-blown awful person, but just hard enough to deal with that I can maybe sort of understand why you'd be inclined to get rid of him if you don't think you're going far with him anyway. (And to be clear, I'd take him back on the Bulls immediately if the option was there.) But as you said, the knifing by Gar is unforgivable regardless of context.
  17. Jesus, what a horsefeathering clown. Thanks for a decade of that crap, Reinsdorf.
  18. I'm cool with a guy who built a #2 seed in the West without any superduperstars (yes, I know Jokic is awesome) running the Bulls.
  19. Most bronze busts are awful. That one isn't so bad, considering.
  20. To add on to the Doolittle love, here's his wife summing it up pretty well. If I squint and try to adopt a player's mindset on losing that kind of money...there's a sliver I can understand. This proposal goes far beyond that group of people though. aren't the players getting paid for 2020 (and getting service time)? i thought i saw that they had settled that a couple weeks back. The players are getting 4% of their salaries (and being credited a year of service time) if there is no season. If there is a season, I believe they pay back that 4%, because that was considered an advance at the time.
  21. As starved as I am for baseball or any sports, I'm with Goony. That's a stupid idea. I'm not sure how many players would sign up for 4.5-plus months away from their family, to say nothing of the more science-based reasons why that wouldn't work.
  22. Nice guy, performance trending down, will be 34 when he's next available. We have enough late inning redhead relievers who are way past their prime already.
  23. I usually go to the site (sometimes I use the app if I'm at home but I find the site has a better experience), and I end up with at least a few articles that interest me every weekday. Even these days, with the sports movie stuff they've been doing and the NFL/CFB stories being written.
  24. I don't think people want to admit it but I don't see any way any sports happen this calendar year unless the scientific community pulls off something dramatic. (Which isn't off the table, to be clear.) Even if we do have baseball or anything else, I can't imagine any universe in which fans are included.
