  1. was he? i think maybe the cubs were so good that it just took us a while to realize joe is just a typical baseball manager I would say he definitely wasn’t bad in the beginning. Not saying he was good necessarily though. You could be right though that the Cubs were good enough to cover up his flaws. He butchered Game 7 but he also out thought Bochy in Game 4 against SF to get the better hitter to the plate during the rally (can’t remember which one). Contreras was the guy he outfoxed Bochy to get up, after burning Coghlan. Occurs to me moves like that aren't really going to happen much anymore in the 3 batter age.
  2. The only gentleman's move is to call the game.
  3. Don't forget he took Kershaw deep to give us an early lead in Game 1 of the 17 NLCS. I thought for all the world we were repeating when that happened.
  4. Jed said Almora's going to South Bend to make room for Maybin.
  5. I might just be wrong here, but it's possible LA didn't want to deal him to someone they might face in the playoffs. I saw a Tweet earlier today about how they were going to be looking at dealing from their depth for farm-system purposes.
  6. I was just about to say the only reason to do this is if you're ditching Almora.
  7. do you and UM realize you're talking about a sample of 6 innings? I can't speak for UM but I wasn't just referring to this year re: walk rate.
  8. His FIP is below 4, so fine, but the walk rate seems uncomfortably high in a bullpen that already features too much of that.
  9. Bama gunning for on-campus herd immunity before the first game on Sept. 26, bold strategy
  10. Who knows what the hell this is going to end up being, but as long as there's a season I'll post the threads. I'm combining weeks one and two together because no particularly notable games are happening this weekend. I will add the week two games to the OP when they announce TV information for them. Week 1 Games Central Arkansas at UAB (8 pm Thursday, ESPN3) South Alabama at Southern Miss (9 pm Thursday, CBSSN) Eastern Kentucky at Marshall (1 pm, ESPN) Middle Tennessee at Army (1:30 pm, CBSSN) SMU at Texas State (4:30 pm, ESPN) Houston Baptist at North Texas (7:30 pm, ESPN3) Arkansas State at Memphis (8 pm, ESPN) Stephen F. Austin at UTEP (9 pm, ESPN3) BYU at Navy (8 pm Monday, ESPN) Week 2 Games Top 25 games ------------------------------ (1) Clemson at Wake Forest (7:30 pm, ABC) Missouri State at (5) Oklahoma (7 pm, PPV) Duke at (10) Notre Dame (2:30 pm, NBC) UTEP at (14) Texas (8 pm, LHN) Syracuse at (18) North Carolina (12 pm, ACC Network) UL Lafayette at (23) Iowa State (12 pm, ESPN) Other nationally available games --------------------------------------------------- UAB at Miami (8 pm Thursday, ACC Network) Arkansas State at Kansas State (12 pm, FOX) Charlotte at Appalachian State (12 pm, ESPN2) Eastern Kentucky at West Virginia (12 pm, FS1) Army at UL Monroe (1:30 pm, CBSSN) Georgia Tech at Florida State (3:30 pm, ABC) UTSA at Texas State (3:30 pm, ESPN2) Campbell at Georgia Southern (3:30 pm, ESPNU) Austin Peay at Pittsburgh (4 pm, ACC Network) The Citadel at South Florida (7 pm, ESPNU) Tulane at South Alabama (7:30 pm, ESPN2) Western Kentucky at Louisville (8 pm, ACC Network) Coastal Carolina at Kansas (10 pm, FS1)
  11. Billy probably fronting it and keeping the profits when he sells on La Stella in the off season.
  12. They did last night, that's why I'm asking. (At least I thought they did.) Probably because the actor that depicted Robinson in the movie 42 died yesterday. I hadn't seen an announcement about that move, but that makes sense. Man, I hate that we signed Kimbrel.
  13. Not sure if serious... They did last night, that's why I'm asking. (At least I thought they did.)
  14. Pardon the timing and my ignorance, but do we know why everybody is wearing 42 again today?
  15. Still no hits allowed this year!
  16. In a short series, a locked in Hendricks and Darvish can be deadly. I'm fairly bullish on our chances in the postseason, although admittedly it'll probably also take at minimum Kimbrel to be in badass mode.
  17. I'm guessing we're getting Kimbrel to close it out, so prepare thyselves
  18. I am not a fan of Dempster being on the broadcast in general, but his deadpan "good for the bullpen guys for saving the day there" was pretty good.
  19. I honestly don't know why anyone watches their games hoping they'll lose. It only serves to piss you off.
  20. Rizzo sounds so defeated in those quotes. I'm sure he's thinking back to Marjory Stoneman Douglas and how nothing changed there either.
  21. I was going to mention something about them. The color guy was the only thing that made the pbp guy seem decent. They just quietly rambled about uninteresting nonsense the entire broadcast. I was stuck with the Tigers broadcast (they may have been the FS1 broadcast, too), and my God the most sinfully boring broadcast of all time. Monotone voices, no fun whatsoever. These guys know this is a game right?
  22. Someone (hopefully) half-jokingly called the trade the worst since Babe Ruth on The Athletic comments after one of the losses. I thought it was interesting that they invoked Ruth given that Eloy will basically have to hit like him to be valuable given how atrocious he is in the field. He makes Soler look like prime Heyward.
