  1. I'm sure this topic has been broached by previous threads, but as a relative newcomer I was curious as to how everyone's Cub allegiances came about. I didn't really know which area to put this thread in so if it belongs somewhere else, mods feel free to move it. Anyway, my story: I was a Braves fan, albeit a very casual one, for a while because they were the closest team to me when I lived in South Carolina as a little kid. Then when I moved up to South Bend, my now-best friend would basically make me watch Cubs games with him because he was a Cubs fan. After a while, we habitually started watching the games together and before you knew it I was bleeding Cubbie blue (sometime in 1999 was when my conversion was complete). I've been in love with the team and with Wrigley ever since. Other stories?
  2. Absolutely nothing that anybody doesn't already know about. That's what he is saying. Just a question for you nd, but how the hell are you a Redwings fan. Not that I particularly like hockey, in fact, I was kinda pissed when the NHL didn't just fold, but im just interested in how youre a Bulls, Redwings, and Panthers fan. Due mostly to my state-hopping as a child. Long story short: Bulls - Saw MJ play and that was the end of that. Red Wings - Never that much into hockey until a few years ago so I adopted my cousins' favorite team by default. Panthers - Lived in South Carolina when they started playing. You aren't the first to ask why my allegiances fly around so wildly in terms of region. :P Yeah, but youre nowhere near the most random. I know some kid from New Mexico who chose the Cubs and the Yankees as his baseball teams (dont even ask, I dont understand it either), Tennessee Volunteers for college football, Cleveland Cavaliers, the New Jersey Devils, and for college basketball Duke ( ). And to make matters worse, he gets mad when we call him a front runner. I have a friend like that. He's liked the Pistons since they became year-to-year competitors, he's liked the Titans since they nearly won Super Bowl XXXIV, he's liked the D-Backs since they won the World Series. It's maddening to be a sports fan when you've got nutjobs like those spoiling all the fun!
  3. The result could easily be a split championship in the polls. The #1 position in the coaches poll (ESPN) automatically goes to the winner of the BCS championship game; the coaches are obligated to vote the winner #1 as part of the BCS agreement. Voters in the media poll (AP) are able to vote for who they think is the best team regardless of whether they play in the championship game or not.I remember there was a mini-uproar when a few (I think between 4-7) voters in the coaches' poll voted USC 1st in their poll anyway after the 03 season. I wonder if anything ever happened to them...

  5. Bulls lose 104-95. Tough loss, but on the other hand, got to be proud of the effort. Gordon was iffy most of the night, Duhon didn't do that much and the Bulls were still able to hang around. Not a bad loss, not that there's such a thing as a good one. Hopefully we can down the Warriors and Jazz before that stupid circus trip.
  6. This is depressing. Sweetney and Chandler both have double doubles, Deng with 19 and 9, Gordon pulls his Superman routine at the end and we still can't win. That's why they're the champs and we're still just the Bulls.
  7. Raisin is probably getting it because he's in Cali. At least I'd assume that. Dagger 3 by Finley after Gordon turned it over. Bulls down 5 with 3:19 left in the extra period.
  8. This could be a little exciting.... Ben Gordon to the rescue!!! Picks up Capt. Kirk after the missed shot and sends it to OT. Who else?
  9. Down 91-89 wih 30 seconds left, the Bulls call timeout with the ball... I really hope they don't screw this up...
  10. Bulls can't take advantage of a travel by Manu and the Spurs promptly rip off 4 straight just as you would expect the champs to do. Down 89-87 with under 2 minutes left.
  11. Tie game, 2:49 left.
  12. Gordon got a head start on the 4th quarter near the end of the 3rd, but hasn't picked it up yet in the 4th. Come on Bulls!
  13. Both Murton and Cedeno will still have rookie status next year, if I'm correct, since neither exceeded 150 at bats. Here's to seeing Murton make a run for ROY in 06...although I wouldn't be disappointed if he looses it to Ronny. I'm pretty sure both Murton and Ronny exceeded the big-league time requirement for being a rookie, but since Dusty never played them you didn't notice...
  14. I'm getting sick of those. Can't we open a seaon somewhere other than Cincy, New York or Arizona?
  15. Absolutely nothing that anybody doesn't already know about. That's what he is saying.
  16. I was there for that one. Absolutely terrifying, and the day I lost all faith in Bob Davie. 4th down for ND with about 8 seconds left. Rather than having Powlus(or a better idea, a QB with some mobility) run backwards then around in circles for 10 seconds, he has Powlus take the snap, step back about 4 yards, and DOWN IT WITH A SECOND LEFT. Davie was a moron. Called a safety blitz when ND is beating MSU with time expiring. I guess he didn't think MSU would try a deep pass to win the game. MSU goes deep and wins the game. Same year ball on the 50 with time running out against #1 Nebraska. Instead of trying to get some yards and kick a GW fieldgoal he opts for OT and loses. He once said the Rockne set the bar to high for other ND coaches. I guess winning is not the goal. You forgot to mention that he did the same thing on a 3rd-and-11 late in the MSU game THE VERY NEXT YEAR and the same thing happened except it was Charlie Rogers instead of Herb Haygood scoring the TD. I was at that one. I forever remember it as the "DAVIE YOU SUCK" game because an ND student yelled that during a silence in the game when an MSU player was having a seizure on the sideline. Completely audible to everyone in the stadium. We all cracked up.
  17. I was at that game, too. Actually it was my first ever ND game in person. My grandfather wanted to beat the traffic so we left and we were in the concourse when we heard a giant gasp from the crowd. I didn't find out what happened until the next day. Go figure.
  18. Here is another one from the end of the half with the score tied. IMO that is one of the best football games ever played (that I can remember watching) http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a65/adamb0719/halftimePSU.jpgh Best game Ive ever seen was this years USC Notre Dame game, just an unbelievable game from start to finish. Yeah, that USC/ND game was most likely the greatest regular season game of all time. I consider myself very lucky that I got to go. The atmosphere was electric and everyone was pumped. It won't be like that again... until Notre Dame's in the 2006 national title game
  19. That would be a hell of a good game. Was the last time those two teams played in the early 90's in the snow game? The Snow Bowl was indeed the last game between ND and Penn State. I was only six but I vaguely remember watching that game and my whole house flipping out when Mirer hit Reggie Brooks (his 4th option on that play) for the winning two-pointer. What a game that was.
  20. Bulls play the defending champion Spurs tonight at 8:30 ET at the UC. Starters for the Bulls: Duhon Hinrich Nocioni Songaila Chandler For the Spurs: Tony Parker Manu Ginobili Bruce Bowen Tim Duncan Rasho Nesterovic
  21. OSU is a four loss team. That UNC win was impressive, but not impressive enough to warrant them being a good team. Besides those teams they beat Cinncy, Pitt, FAU, Kentucky. With their schedule there is no reason for them to be a two loss team. WVU is the only loss that I think can be justified, but if you look at WVU's schedule it is a joke. Syracuse, Woodford, Maryland, UCONN, E Carolina, Rutgers. They got killed by VT, the only good team they have played. They are fifth in what is arguably the worst BCS conference. I just have a hard time believing they deserve more respect than they have. Why bring ND into this. They are not the only two loss team in the top 10. I personally think Louisville would lose to any team ranked ahead of them except maybe TCU. I brought ND into it as they are the highest ranked 2 loss team. Also, who has Alabama beat? Auburn? LSU? Other than the ever so tough teams in their own conference. At least Louisville and WV have played tough teams out of conference unlike the SEC teams that get so much repect and yet don't do well in the bowls year after year and Maryland, NC and VTech are tougher than any team an SEC has played out of conference to date. Auburn lost to GTech in the one matchup with a major conference. Tennesse always plays a tough out of conference and that is the team I respect out of that conference. I usually say that about the Big 12 but they did a decent job this year at least playing one good team. By the way, ND has promised to play 3 Big East teams a year from here on so we'll see how well they do! :D I agree the the SEC has weak non-conference games, but I kind of am OK with it since the conference is so hard to get through. It is not the deepest conference but the top teams are very good. By the end of the year they normally have just beat each other up and if a team does emerge undefeated or with one loss, they deserve a BCS game Also Auburn beat VT in a bowl last year, and LSU won the championship two years ago. The SEC does not do terrible when it makes it to a major bowl. The non-conference games the Big East schedules are tougher than their conference games IMO. If they did not do that I don't see the Big East getting any respect at all. Of course basketball is another story :D Do you know who ND is picking up to replace BC? I remember hearing Rutgers, but am not positive on that. Adam I do remember hearing it was Rutgers. I think the three Big East teams will often be Rutgers, Louisville and WV. At least those are the three I would schedule. As for my comment about Navy, the reason I'd be disappointed at a non-rout over the Middies is because I do not think Weis will let the Irish forget about Navy. The times Navy has posed a threat to NDin recent years: 1997 - Rossum pushes the Navy receiver out at the one on the last second play to preserve the win. 1999 - The fortunate spot on 4th down. If the refs don't mess that up the streak ends. 2002 - Comeback win. Irish were on a hangover after losing to BC. 2003 - DJ Fitzpatrick FG. ND was just plain bad. I bring those up because they were all Davie and Willingham. Navy never seems to pose a threat to us when there's a competent coach at the helm, and I don't think they'll have any problems. It's not like they have a good opponent next week to look ahead to.
  22. Removing the automatic bid for a playoff would be best IMO. My eight as of now: USC Texas Alabama Miami LSU PSU VaTech Oregon After Bama beats LSU this weekend I would stick ND in over the Bayou Bengals.
  23. Isn't that what happened two years ago? It's exactly what happened two years ago. Thanks to SC not losing since 2003, no one even remembers that technically LSU won that year's national title.
  24. Both the correct choices.
  25. Ball State goes for 3 in a row at Eastern Michigan. BSU's conference schedule somehow managed to avoid Kent State and Buffalo, the two worst teams in the MAC. ND/Navy, as usual, is not worrisome. If ND wins by less than 24 I'll be disappointed.
