    Something tells me...this Murton kid will be right there with Bay. Maybe not much with the power, but all-around skills. I like Jason Bay, and I would trade Scott Rolen, Anthony Reyes, and Yadier Molina (cause Pujols would be overpaying) for Bay....and the Cards get Todd Walker, Jose Macias, and Mark Redman. That's a fair trade. :lol: Good point NSAvenger. Murton has the tools, the plate discipline, and if the end of 2005 showed us anything, maybe even the power to be right on Bay's level. Now whether he is able to do that or if he becomes another minor-league Cubs bust, we shall see. I'd bet closer to the former.

    Hey, I can dream can't I? The reality is he'll find some bum like Woody Williams or Tony Womack who becomes magically better while with the Cards before crashing back to reality with another team. It really is quite amazing. :wall: I'm not bitter. :^o You should be. The Cardinals' ability to plug any moran into the lineup and get good production is astounding to me. John Rodriguez, Abraham Nunez anyone?

    I have a feeling Nomar will end up in L.A. Last I had read though, Milwaukee is thinking of holding onto Overbay. Maybe Milwaukee wants to bring in a nice haul of them shiny dodger prospects and they put themselves in a good position to do that by stating their intentions of keeping Overbay. I've read that Overbay is as good as gone, and the Brewers are ready to start Prince Fielder at first.

    Perhaps that reflects more on the need for a manager to bite the bullett sometimes and give his backend guys work, so as to save the good guys from breaking down. Unfortunately I don't see it happening. Dusty will find his 2 or 3 guys, and run them into the ground by July, when he'll whine about needing more relievers. I agree with that. He loves to play the hot hand. If a reliever is throwing well, he won't hesitate to use him every chance he gets. The workload has to be balanced. I was trying to complile a list of pitchers who possibly have been affected by Baker's use/abuse of the pitching staff. You can make a case.. Prior Wood Nen Fox Livan I fear to see who might be next on the list. I think Z might be next unfortunately. Is it just me or is Z just an old-school fireballer who can throw this many innings without problems? He's done it three years in a row now without problems, whereas the first year Wood and Prior were used in the same manner they started breaking down. I just think Z has just about the biggest rubber arm in baseball. As for who's next, it'll be His Eyreness beyond the shadow of a doubt. He's a Dusty boy, so if he shows any amount of results this year (and probably even if he doesn't), Dusty will use him anytime he can.

    no, i do too. i don't think Larry should have said what he said the way he said it. I disagree. I don't think it's disparaging to anyone. He's not saying anything bad about Wood - he's just saying that, as an organization, depending on a guy who just had shoulder surgery and has a history of injury to be healthy isn't a good way to go about things. It's not a knock on Wood, or an insinuation that Wood won't be able to stay healthy; it's merely stating that counting on it would be foolhardy, to say the least. It is a knock on wood that he can stay healthy, though. :wink:

    Bulls visit the Key Arena (or whatever it's called these days) for a 10:30 ET battle with the Sonics tonight. With Kobe, the champs, and T-Mac as our next three games after this one, this is close to a must-win. Projected starters for the Bulls: Duhon Hinrich Nocioni Sweetney Chandler For the Sonics: Luke Ridnour Ray Allen Rashard Lewis Nick Collison Johan Petro Edited to show Sweetney starting over Darius :)

    I don't know what to make of this game really. If Carolina plays like they have the last 3 games (3-0 with a +72 point differential) then the Bears have no chance in hell of winning. But if they regress even a little bit, there's the chance that the Bears could catch a break or two and steal this one. Also, you have the cold-weather factor. Granted, Carolina's last cold-weather game was their NFC title game victory in 2003, but it has been a long time since they played in the cold and that could affect them. I do think, though, that Carolina wins this one relatively easily. Panthers 20 Bears 10

    Red Sox fans as a whole were unhappy with the Renteria signing of 4/42 (I believe that's what it was) even before Edgar proved he wasn't worth that much money. They were upset because they could have had Cabrera for less and had basically the same production. So yes, we're not crazy for being a big-market team's fans who want the organization to spend wisely.

    Kerry Wood. Games 1 and 5, 2003 NLDS. Entire month of September 2003. Carlos Zambrano. ERA below 3 after the ASB from 2004-5. Mark Prior: Games 3 NLDS, Game 2 NLCS. I think your hyperbole got ahead of the facts. And actually, there are a few members here at NSBB I think could do an effective job at being a GM. Also, I'm not sure how Scott Eyre qualifies as a "big game proven pitcher". He's a reliever. He's not a closer. He's not a starter. He's a setup guy at best, Those guys don't win you divisions. Unfortunately, I have to disagree on your last point. A good setup guy or guys can be the difference between winning and losing. Look no further than the Sox to see how valuable relievers like Politte (and to some extent Cotts) can be as a bridge to the closer. Politte was at best mediocre, at worst crappy in every single season of his career before 2005. Cotts's ERA went from 5.65 in 04 to 1.94 this year. I'm not saying they weren't valuable in 2005, I'm just pointing out that neither of those guys should have been expected to be a bridge to anywhere except mediocrity.

    A) I don't think I've seen anyone use "dumpster" in a derogatory way since 2004, which is well before the ban on such names. B) there should be a double standard in a community this small between long time posters and newbies. The mods here know the people with thousands of posts. They know their general intentions and know if they can be trusted to reign it in if they're instructed to do so. There is a VERY GOOD REASON THIS IS DIFFERENT FROM THE LAW. We have the sort of legal system ENTIRELY because we live in a society where most people do not know most other people they may run into. It's simply not a good idea to apply to this sort of community because the judges actually know everyone involved in the incidents they moderate. shouldn't the long time posters set the example?? if someone w/ 10000 posts is constantly flaming, someone w/ 100 posts probably thinks it's ok to act up as well. Maybe I missed something-was something said that was uncalled for, or are people just bickering over how optimistic/pessimistic to be? I good-naturedly called Ryan Dempster "Dumpster", an affectionate nickname I've used on him since before I knew he was heckled with the name. Somehow, that led to this. :P

    Hey Roast, I am probably going to get flamed for this, but would it be possible for you to leave out "Jesus Christ" when posting on this forum. I apologize if this comes off as rude or calling you out, I just have been bothered by it for awhile and I would like to enjoy this forum without having my Lords name used that way. If the mods see otherwise, I will let it go. I just don't see a reason to use it. Again, I am not trying to call you out or embarrass you, just asking for alittle respect when language is tossed around here. Thanks man! I actually agree with you, I really need to cut back on doing that. I never used to, i just have of late. Stress makes you say stuff. No offense taken, and I appologize for the language. If we sign Johnny Damon, we could scream that out and actually be talking about our centerfielder. A+ :lol: :lol: Vance beat me to it. :lol:

    Just to reiterate, Dumpster is an affectionate nickname! :wink: The only move of the off-season I've approved of so far. I wonder if anyone else offered His Eyreness even close to what appears to be 2/7.5 with a player option to make it 3/11?

    I've been convinced since the Neifi signing that Hendry isn't running things anymore, and Dusty is. My question then would be how the hell that happens considering Hendry is supposedly the superior.

    fyi, he signed a 2 yr. deal with a 3rd yr. option. $ has not been confirmed yet. yeah, it's even worse than a 3 year deal. it's a 2 year deal with a PLAYER option for the third. Can you please post the link where it says player option? Eyre Signing

It was intentional, but it's an affectionate nickname. My friends and I were using it on him before we knew that opposing fans heckled him with the name. I love the Dumpster Man, he's probably our 3rd best pitcher right now behind Z and Prior.

    Don't worry about DeShaun. I love, love, LOVE John Fox, but his one major flaw, besides being too conservative offensively once he has a two-possession lead, is not using DeShaun effectively. Foster should be this team's starting RB right now but I think Fox still thinks Davis can be a Pro Bowler, although he's getting up there in years for a RB. Foster's main utilization this year has been out of the backfield as a receiver.
